Sylvester didn’t sleep much these days.

The shadows under his eyes had become a permanent fixture, but it wasn’t the exhaustion that slowed him—it was the weight of what he knew.

What he knew, and how little he was doing to stop it. It bothered him.

The Bringer of Death Amplifier wasn’t just some forgotten relic anymore. It had returned, and it was now in Edrag’s hands.

Edrag. The mad-man.

That truth alone made Sylvester uneasy.

The house was quiet.

Not silent in that eerie, foreboding way, but quiet enough that Sylvester could hear the soft hum of the wind brushing against the windows and the way Emily’s bare feet padded softly across the floor.

She entered the room with two mugs in hand, the smell of warm tea trailing behind her. “You’re awake,” she said gently, offering him one.

Sylvester nodded, accepting the cup with a small smile. He hadn't even realized he was staring out the window until she broke the silence. “Couldn’t sleep,” he mumbled.

“You haven’t been sleeping much la

Sylvester stood in the courtyard of the mountain fortress, the cold morning breeze brushing past his collar as he watched his team gear up and discuss cleanup protocols. The battle against Edrag had left more than physical damage. It made them question everything…even Sylvester.Their emotional resolve was ruined, but Sylvester was used to this. He was used to pondering the meaninglessness of life after every victory. A few weeks…or even days of boredom and the need to let off some steam would clear that out. Then his phone rang.He frowned at the screen. It was Gladys. He answered immediately, stepping away from the crew. “Gladys?”“You need to come,” her voice came out strained, no preamble, no greetings. “It’s Emily. Something’s happened.”His heart lurched. “What do you mean? What happened to Emily?”“No, no…calm down, soldier. She’s not hurt…not physically, at least,” Gladys said quickly, as if reading his mind. “But there’s a crisis. Her company’s in the middle of a scandal. S

  • Chapter 112

Emily stood by the tall glass windows of the boardroom, arms folded tightly across her chest. Below her, the city crawled with noise and life, oblivious to the anxiety clawing through her veins. The skyline, once a symbol of triumph, now looked like a distant reminder of how high she could fall. The meeting had been set for 10 a.m. sharp, and the minutes were crawling toward it like a countdown to execution. Soon enough, it was time, and she had to make the nervous walk around the room to make sure everything was in order. Her heels tapped nervously against the hardwood floor, her mind rehearsing every possible question they might throw at her, and realizing she didn’t have answers to any of them…not the kind, at least, that would satisfy a room full of cutthroat executives looking for someone to blame. She turned to the table again. The boardroom was already being set.Bottles of water stood tall, digital notepads sharp, company logo shining arrogantly from the smart screen at the

  • Chapter 111

Emily sat in the waiting area of Gladys’ office, her hands clenched tightly in her lap. Her jaw was tense, eyes darting toward the sleek door that separated her from the one person she hoped could save her from the storm unraveling around her. Outside the tall windows, the city looked calm…mockingly so. No one would’ve guessed her world was falling apart, piece by piece, but if there was any place she needed to be…if there was anything she could do from preventing the devastation that seemed inevitable, it was here. The secretary finally motioned toward the door. “Mrs. Gladys will see you now.”Emily didn’t waste a second. She stepped inside to find Gladys sitting at her massive mahogany desk, a pair of reading glasses balanced at the bridge of her nose. The office was tastefully minimal. Clean lines and neutral tones streamed around the entire place but it screamed power. Legal documents and financial reports were neatly stacked beside her laptop, and yet the room felt as if it w

  • Chapter 110

Edrag did all he could to stay afloat, but his body just wasn’t built for this kind of load.He buckled under the strain. Veins bulged across his forehead as he clenched his jaw, trying to reverse the drain, to shut off the flow of energy bleeding from him into the Rose of Life. His amplifier flickered like a dying star. One moment it was on, pushing a vortex of destroying force towards his opponent. The next? Fragments of it were falling apart.“No!” he barked. “This isn't how it ends…this…this can’t be how it ends!”But it was.The Rose didn’t falter. It was a much more stable, less used weapon, and so it pulsed with a calm determination, glowing brighter with every ounce of energy it tore away. The light was gentle, yet terrifying in its purity. Edrag’s amplifier was nothing compared to its hunger.Sylvester held his ground, every muscle locked in place as the storm howled around him. He could feel the pressure mounting, the weight of the Rose pulling not just on Edrag, but on

The room seemed to stretch in silence after Edrag’s declaration. He stood there, triumphant and oblivious, convinced that his “inside woman” still worked in his favor. Sylvester didn’t correct him. He didn’t flinch. Everyone on his team understood their advantage.Edrag had no idea Katherine was gone. No idea she had betrayed him.It was a rare, delicate advantage and Sylvester knew it wouldn’t last.He turned slightly, just enough for Geral to catch the glint of decision in his eyes. With a subtle flick of his fingers, he signaled their weapons down.He was going to handle this part by himself.Geral furrowed his brow but obeyed, stepping back beside Verity and Otto, each one holding tight to their Amplifiers. The Rose of Life pulsed against Sylvester’s palm like it sensed what was coming. And that was the problem. It was too reactive.Too alive. Much like the bringer of death they sought to destroy, the rose of life was no sleeper either and was hungry for power. There was a ver

  • Chapter 108

The moon cast a cold glow over the craggy hills as Sylvester and his men crouched near the edge of the cliffside overlooking the old fortress below. With any luck, they finally had their sights on Edrag, and today was the day he was going down…the day all these threats would be put to an end.It was either that, or Sylvester could kiss his own life goodbye. He hadn’t fully recovered from his weakening state, but no one needed to know that. They all needed to do what had to be done.Nothing more, but more importantly, nothing less. The wind whipped across the rocks, but none of them flinched. They were focused…tense. Each breath out of their grim noses were measured, each movement calculated. Below them stood the rusted gates of what once was a courthouse, now nothing more than a decaying shelter for, ironically one of the most evil people the court never got to sentence.“Target is in,” Hozert whispered, lowering his spyglass. “Large hall. Unconscious civilians. Ten, maybe more. No
