Chapter 11: The Golden Cage Cracks

The Imperial Lounge's V.I.P. suite was usually a sanctuary of unmatched luxury, but tonight, it felt like an interrogation room.

Harrison Cross stood by the glass balcony, his face darkened by a rare, furious scowl as he stared at his personal terminal. Across from him, Chloe Sinclair sat huddled on a leather sofa, her makeup faintly smudged from the panic of the morning, while Vivienne Sterling sat completely numb in the corner, wearing a plain, unbranded dress she had been forced to buy from a secondary-district market.

"He threatened your father’s shipping lines?" Harrison’s voice was dangerously low as he turned to face Chloe. "Austin Vance actually said that?"

"He didn't just say it, Harrison, he had the electronic overrides ready to send!" Chloe snapped, her voice trembling with residual terror. "The entire Grand Martial Pavilion saw him. He wasn't the soft, spineless idiot Vivienne told us he was. His spiritual resonance was completely suffocating. It felt like standing in front of a high-tier elder!"

Harrison grimaced, his knuckles turning white as he clenched his fist. He turned his gaze toward Vivienne. For the past two years, he had treated Vivienne as a prize to be stolen from Austin—a trophy to prove the Cross Corporation’s superiority over the Vance family’s prime line. But now, looking at her stripped of her family wealth, she looked less like a prize and more like a liability.

"Vivienne," Harrison barked. "You told me Austin was completely infatuated with you. You said he gave up his cultivation training to look over your family's accounts. How does a man who hasn't touched a spiritual blade in two years suppress senior martial students with raw pressure?"

"I don't know!" Vivienne cried, her voice cracking as she looked up with bloodshot eyes. "He was always quiet! He always did whatever I asked! When my brother Tristan demanded tuition credits, Austin just signed them over! He never once raised his voice or showed that kind of strength. I swear to you, Harrison, he’s doing all of this just to hurt me because I came to your party!"

"Then he’s playing a dangerous game," Harrison sneered, though an uncomfortable knot of anxiety was beginning to tighten in his chest.

Before he could speak further, the main holographic console in the suite chimed loudly. A widespread, automated system push from the Capital Academy's official network flashed into the air, broadcasting the finalized brackets for tomorrow's Regional Advancement Tournament.

Harrison’s predatory smile began to return as he looked at the screen. "It doesn't matter how much noise he makes at the academy gates. Thaddeus Cole has already taken our endowment. The fourth slot is mine, and once I officially secure it tomorrow, the Cross Corporation's martial contracts will be locked—"

He froze mid-sentence.

The golden letters of the holographic bracket violently glitched, shifting in real-time. The grayed-out name of nineteen-year-old Olivia Vance vanished entirely from the lower bracket. In its place, a massive, deep-red notification stamped with the ancient seal of the High Council overwrote the text.

> **ACADEMY HIGH COUNCIL DIRECTIVE:** *Heir Intervention Directive invoked by Sovereign Prime Line. Challenger 'Harrison Cross' (Tier-3) slot has been formally contested. Opponent updated.*

> **MATCH 4:** *Harrison Cross vs. Austin Vance (Prime Heir).*

>

The glowing crimson letters cast an ominous, bloody hue over Harrison's face.

Chloe let out a sharp gasp, covering her mouth in horror. "He... he actually bypassed the Vice-Principal. He’s fighting you himself."

Vivienne stared at the flashing name—*Austin Vance*—her mind spiraling into absolute chaos. For two years, that name had been synonymous with her own personal safety net, a shield she used to bully her way through high society. Now, seeing it written in the aggressive, sovereign red of the High Council’s battle charts, she realized with sickening certainty that the shield had officially turned into a sword.

Harrison’s face twisted from shock into a dark, manic grin. He threw his head back, letting out a sharp, harsh laugh that echoed off the suite’s crystal walls.

"An Heir Intervention?" Harrison purred, his Tier-3 spiritual energy flaring up around him, causing the expensive glassware on the tables to rattle violently. "The fool actually thinks he can step out of the corporate office and directly onto my stage? He wants to play the hero for his little sister?"

He stepped toward the center of the room, his eyes locked onto the holographic bracket with absolute malice.

"Let him come," Harrison whispered, his voice dripping with lethal intent. "Tomorrow afternoon, in front of every major clan reporter in the Capital, I won't just take his tournament slot. I am going to shatter his meridians and make sure the Vance Clan's Prime Line ends with him."

The heavy scent of rain and ozone still lingered over the Great Capital Bridge, but the atmosphere within the central courtyard of the Vance Estate had shifted entirely. What should have been a period of celebration for securing the northern trade artery and absorbing ten thousand provincial troops had turned into a silent, feverish war room.In the subterranean command center beneath the manor, projection screens hummed with green and gold streams of data. Enforcers rushed between tactical maps, mapping out supply lines, spirit-gem reserves, and defensive arrays across the Capital District. At the head of the dark iron council table stood Olivia Vance. At nineteen, Austin’s younger sister possessed the same sharp, aristocratic features of the Vance bloodline, though her posture usually leaned toward studious grace rather than military command.
