Vivienne stood frozen, her manicured fingers balling into tight fists at her sides. For a long, suffocating moment, the only sound in the apartment was the quiet hum of the refrigerator.

She stared at Austin, waiting for the punchline. She expected him to laugh, to jump up from the sofa, and to tell her that it was all a joke. In the two years they had been dating, Austin had never once spoken to her in that tone. He was the man who had abandoned his standing in the Sovereign Vance Clan just to be with her. He was the one who spent his days working to clear her family’s endless debts. He was her obedient, dependable anchor, yet he sat there completely unbothered, just a few feet away from where she had carelessly thrown her purse onto his clean cushions.

"What did you just say?" Vivienne’s voice dropped, thick with rising irritation. "Pay for it myself? Austin, Harrison has been overseas for years. This is a welcome home gathering with our old classmates. Are you seriously throwing a tantrum over a simple reservation?"

Austin did not look up from his drink. He took a slow, deliberate sip, his mature soul completely detached from her outrage. Looking at her now, he felt no anger, only a profound, chilling indifference. The twenty years of emotional suppression he had endured in his past life had burned away every ounce of affection.

"I spoke clearly," Austin said, his voice flat. "If your childhood friends want to celebrate, they can fund their own lifestyle. I am no longer bankrolling your social circle."

Vivienne’s face flushed a deep, furious crimson. Her pride, meticulously nurtured by Austin’s years of subservience, was entirely stung. "Austin Vance, look at me when I am speaking to you! Do you think you can treat me like this just because I am going out? I am a free woman. Even if we are together, you have absolutely no right to lock me in this apartment like a prisoner!"

Outside the open front door, the faint rustle of clothing echoed in the luxury corridor. The Grand Arch Penthouse sat in the elite district of the Capital, where gossip traveled faster than spiritual resonance. A few neighbors had quietly cracked their doors open, peeking through the gaps. They were entirely used to Vivienne’s frequent outbursts, and every single one of them was silently waiting for Austin to bow his head and apologize, just as he always did.

Vivienne thought he was just testing her patience. She raised her chin, her eyes flashing with smug certainty as she began her usual routine. "I am going to count to three, Austin. If you do not get up, get my dress, and apologize for this disrespect, do not expect me to forgive you easily."

"One."

Austin set his glass down on the obsidian table with a soft click.

"Two."

Before the word three could even leave her lips, Austin calmly stood up. He did not look at her face. Instead, he walked right past her toward the kitchen entrance where the elderly housekeeper was standing nervously.

"Mrs. Higgins," Austin commanded, his tone carrying the natural, heavy authority of a forty-year-old tycoon.

The housekeeper wiped her hands on her apron, her voice trembling slightly. "Yes, young master?"

"Please prepare a large, multi-course dinner tonight," Austin instructed smoothly. "Make the braised spirit-beef and a large portion of the rich peanut butter noodles. I am exceptionally hungry."

Mrs. Higgins looked between the two of them, letting out a soft, internal sigh.

Vivienne’s lips curved into a smug, victorious smile. She assumed Austin was simply using the housekeeper as a shield to back down gracefully, preparing a lavish feast to convince her to stay or to invite Harrison up. The neighbors in the hallway shared the same thought, silently mocking Austin in their minds for being completely spineless.

"Tell her not to use the peanut butter, Austin," Vivienne said, her tone returning to its usual arrogant lilt as she adjusted her pearl earrings in the mirror. "Harrison is lethally allergic to peanuts. His skin breaks out in hives at the slightest trace. I am glad you are finally showing some sense."

Austin turned around, his fierce, piercing eyes locking onto hers for the first time since she entered the room. The absolute coldness in his gaze made Vivienne’s smile falter.

"The meal has nothing to do with Harrison," Austin said clearly, his voice cutting through the apartment like a frozen blade. "He is not invited to my table, and neither are you."

He took a step forward, his towering frame casting a long shadow over her.

"Leave," Austin said coldly. "Close the door behind you. And make sure you pack every single piece of your trash out of my properties by nine o'clock tomorrow morning. We are completely done."

Vivienne’s breath caught in her throat, her mind suddenly going blank. "A breakup? You want to end our engagement over this?"

"We are done," Austin repeated, his tone absolute and leaving zero room for negotiation. "Do not be late."

Without waiting for her response, Austin turned his back completely, walking back toward the sofa to review the corporate charts on his digital tablet.

"Austin Vance!" Vivienne shrieked, her voice cracking with pure rage as she realized the neighbors were listening through the cracked doors. "You think you can threaten me?! I have been sick of your suffocating insecurities for a long time anyway! Do not dare come crawling back to me tomorrow begging for my mercy!"

She snatched her purse back off the sofa, spun on her high heels, and stormed out into the luxury corridor, intentionally leaving the penthouse door wide open so the onlookers could witness her "victorious" exit.

She expected the neighbors—members of the secondary high-society circles who loved standard gossip—to look at her with envy and pity the man she was leaving behind. She raised her chin, adjusting her pearl earrings, putting on a show of supreme elegance.

Instead, the moment she stepped onto the polished marble of the hallway, a massive, jarring electronic BEEP echoed from the penthouse’s smart-lock system.

The heavy scent of rain and ozone still lingered over the Great Capital Bridge, but the atmosphere within the central courtyard of the Vance Estate had shifted entirely.
