Patrick's jaw tightened, and his eyes sank deep into his sockets.
For a few moments, it seemed as though only him was left in the world. His face churned and a thick aura flared off from him in a massive wave.
Even Vera, as powerful as she was, could not stand it.
Her eyes widened while she struggled to keep her balance.
"That much power, that much aura, it should not be coming from a F ranked!" Her eyes widened even further.
Then it stopped just like it had started and she saw Patrick walk away from Vera with his face completely calm but she could easily tell that a storm was raging inside him.
"Hey!" Vera wanted to call out his name, then she stopped.
She wanted to invite him for dinner. But she could see that after saying those words earlier, there seemed to be a shift in his expression even though it was just for a few moments, the perfect mask that he was trying to keep had slided off.
"Why was he so angry when I only mentioned the beloved founder of taming?" She turned before turning around. If fate wanted them to cross paths, then they would.
Meanwhile, deep cold fury gathered on Patrick's chest while he walked away and the name, Xerxes Clavon echoed in his skull non stop like a spinning hammer.
At first, he had thought his rebirth was simple revenge for this body.
However, now that he was getting at this truth, it seemed that it was for something far bigger that even himself couldn't comprehend.
The heavens gave him a second chance to settle scores with the family that had tortured him, with the world that had spat on him while he was powerless.
They hadn't just killed him for his power. They had erased him completely. Rewritten a century of history and placed his terrified assistant on the throne he had built with his own hands.
Something was wrong, and he needed to know exactly how deep this betrayal went.
"Sir, if you would follow me?"
Patrick turned to see a nervous academy staff member hovering nearby, clipboard clutched against his chest like armor. He was definitely a first timer working in the academy and didn't know of Patrick's status.
For the first time in a while, Patrick removed his thoughts from the name and breathed in a sigh of relief.
At least, the man before him didn't know him yet and his legendary status started treating him like something below breathing.
For a place where bullying was an expectation from everyone, it was a relief.
"Your room assignment," the man continued quickly. "And the private training facility that comes with your new status."
Patrick nodded once and followed him through the corridors.
Students pressed themselves against the walls as he passed, their whispers dying the moment he came within earshot.
"That's him."
"The one who banned Jarden."
"Did you see what his cat did?"
He ignored all of it while the staff member masked his face with a professional mask.
But there was a flinch in his eyes. He knew that however Jarden was, he was someone powerful and Patrick had trashed him.
"Is he a bully?" The staff member could not help but think before quickly shifting the thoughts away from his mind.
The staff member led him up three flights of stairs to the residential wing, stopping at a door marked with a bronze nameplate.
"This is yours," the man said, handing over a key. "The private room, private training facility attached. It's not much compared to what the top families get, but it's better than the common areas."
Patrick pushed open the door.
The room was small but functional. A bed, a desk, a window overlooking the inner courtyard. The cat hopped off his shoulder and claimed the windowsill immediately, settling down like it owned the place.
"Where is the training facility?" Patrick asked.
"Through that door," the staff member pointed. "You will get basic equipment, reinforced walls, better aura density than the shared spaces."
After that, Patrick nodded without saying any more words. It was decent at least.
The man hesitated at the door. "If you need anything, use the communication crystal on your desk. Academy administration is available at all hours."
He turned to leave and then paused.
"And yes before I forgot, the Spec family came over and dropped a letter for you that you might want to look into and give a response. You can find it in your drawers!" With this he was gone.
But he had left Patrick with crawling skin. He didn't even realize that his eyes were squinting and his teeth tightened.
"A letter?" He echoed his thoughts on his lips.
"Just what are those packs of wolves planning this time?"
He drew towards the locker after examining the room and his cat ravaged through the place to make itself comfortable.
The embroidery on it seemed almost too good to be true. It was professional, like they really cared and for the first time, it didn't seem like they were treating him like trash.
However, it didn't cause any trouble. Rather it made Patrick's heart tighten even further as he tore open the lid on the letter and read.
"An invitation to the family banquet and your attendance is paramount!"
That was all, alongside a dress and a shoe that seemed used but fine enough for a public event.
The words didn't sound like a request either, it was like an order.
Patrick squeezed the paper into a ball and tossed it into the nearest waste basket at a go.
"So they think that they can toss me into the streets and still have the gulls to order me around? How pathetic.”

"How did the trash rank tamer possibly do that?" Ripples of shock ran through the hall in multiple waves. The whisper broke through the dead silence, echoing across the training hall and spreading like a wild fire. "That's impossible!""Did you see how many there were? Some of the little animals are still jerking, it's freaking surreal.""Look outside the windows!"The crowd erupted into chaos, voices crashing over each other as students pressed against the glass, staring at the courtyard where hundreds of birds lay scattered on the ground, all twitching in perfect synchronization."That radius has to be massive! I counted over a hundred animals!" Another member of the crowd added. They could barely speak properly, their brains refusing to process what they'd witnessed. The laughter in the room seemed to stretch for hours, the crowd soaking themselves in the amusement of Patrick's failure."I've seen kids do better with pet rabbits!""It's the guts to even try and compete with an A ranked tamer, what were we really expecting!" Another member of the crowd commented, shaking their heads."At least, he had the audacity. Maybe if he could put more effort into his life, he would not be so pathetic!" Cold words after cold words rolled off from their lips and it didn't seem like they were going to be stopping any time soon. Quickly, Jarden's stunned looks melted off into a cold grim. This was his opportunity to show off his skill before everyone that was present, especially Vera who was finally going to notice his skill. He tucked back his smile into the corners of his face, however, his blood was boiling over and he could not wait to have Patrick under."Since Vera is here and she's senior in rank, it would be best if she's the judge of this event!""Yeah!" The whole crowd clamoured her into expectancy.Vera had also heard about Jarden's unique skill and also wanted to see it for herself, this was going to be the perfect opportunity. She nodded before turning over to Patrick and then to the crowd."There's no limits to what you and your beast can do. And there are no rules either. The only thing that you have to do to win the contest is to impress me!" She explained. The crowd erupted into a chorus of mocking laughter the moment Vera laid out the terms of the contest. He was walking away with an SSS class dragon beast, the ultimate symbol of power that would cement his place as the family's golden child forever. "I can't believe he actually did it, trading a dragon for a mangy cat!" The crowd gossips in light whispers, slight chuckles tore off through their lungs at irregular intervals."What did you expect from the talentless trash? He doesn't have the brains for real power anyway.""Honestly, it's probably for the best.
