The rain would not stop falling. It had been three hours since the doctors called Ethan Chen into that cold hospital corridor, and still he sat there on that plastic chair, his hands shaking so badly he could barely keep them still. He had seen that look on their faces before. The pity. The hopelessness. The way they could not meet his eyes because they had nothing good to say.
When the doctor finally came out with that thick folder of test results, Ethan already knew what was coming. He followed the man into the small office and sat down across from him. The doctor, a middle aged man with tired eyes, opened the folder and stared at the papers inside for a long moment before speaking.
"Mr. Chen, I am very sorry to tell you this, but your daughter Lily has a rare blood disorder. It is aggressive and it is advancing quickly. Without immediate treatment, she has maybe two weeks."
Ethan felt the words hit him like physical blows. Two weeks. His little girl had two weeks.
"What kind of treatment?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
The doctor hesitated. He shuffled through the papers, avoiding Ethan's gaze. "There is a treatment available, but it is extremely expensive. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars, maybe more. I know that is not something most families can afford."
"What about experimental options?" Ethan pressed. "I have heard about new treatments overseas. Things that are still in trial phases. Is there anything like that?"
The doctor finally looked up. His expression was heavy with something that looked like guilt. "There is something. A new therapy being developed in Europe. It has shown promise in early trials, but it is not approved here yet. The cost would be significantly higher. Millions of dollars. And there is no guarantee it would work."
Millions of dollars. Ethan did not have millions. He barely had enough to buy groceries for the week.
"I would suggest you start making peace with the situation, Mr. Chen," the doctor said softly. "Prepare yourself. Prepare your daughter. Spend whatever time you have left making memories."
Ethan stood up so fast his chair scraped against the floor. He could not listen to this. He could not sit here and accept that his daughter was going to die. He walked out of the office without saying another word.
The rain was pouring down when he stumbled out of the hospital. The sky was dark and gray, matching exactly how he felt inside. He pulled out his phone and called Sophia. She did not answer. He called again. Nothing. He left a desperate voicemail, his voice cracking with emotion.
"Sophia, it is Ethan. I need you to meet me at the apartment right now. It is about Lily. The doctors gave us bad news. Really bad. Please. Please just come home."
He hung up and stared at the phone for a moment. She had not been answering his calls for weeks. She had been distant. Secretive. Coming home late with expensive things they could not afford. He had tried not to think about it. He had tried to focus on Lily. But now everything was falling apart.
On his way home, Ethan stopped at the pharmacy. Lily's regular medication was almost out, and he had been putting off buying more because he simply did not have the money. He used his last bit of cash, handing it over to the pharmacist with a shaking hand. The man gave him that same look of pity everyone seemed to have these days. Ethan ignored it and walked out into the rain.
When he finally reached the apartment, he knew something was wrong before he even opened the door. The place felt empty. Silent. He stepped inside and saw that Sophia's closet was half empty. Her nicer clothes were gone. The jewelry she had been wearing lately was nowhere to be seen.
Then he saw the divorce papers on the kitchen table.
They were already filled out. Already signed. Just waiting for his signature at the bottom. A note was attached in Sophia's handwriting, and Ethan unfolded it with trembling fingers.
"Ethan, we need to talk. I have met someone else. I am sorry. I know this is not what you expected, but I cannot do this anymore. Please just sign the papers. We can end this peacefully."
Ethan read the words three times before they fully sank in. His wife was leaving him. She had already left him. She had just not bothered to tell him to his face.
He crumpled the note in his fist and threw it across the room. It bounced off the wall and landed on the floor, a pathetic little ball of paper that represented everything his life had become.
Hours passed. Ethan did not move from the kitchen table. He just sat there staring at the divorce papers, trying to understand how everything had gone so wrong. He had given Sophia everything he had. He had worked himself to the bone to provide for her and Lily. And she had thrown it all away for someone else.
When Sophia finally walked through the door, Ethan barely recognized her. She was wearing a designer dress that cost more than his monthly salary. Her hair was perfect. Her makeup was flawless. She looked like she belonged on the cover of a magazine, not in this cramped little apartment with its peeling paint and broken furniture.
"Where have you been?" Ethan asked. His voice was flat. Hollow.
Sophia did not answer the question. She just walked past him and sat down on the couch, crossing her legs and looking at him with cold eyes. "You said you had news about Lily. What is it?"
Ethan told her. He told her about the blood disorder. About the two weeks. About the treatment that cost more than they could ever afford. He watched her face carefully, looking for any sign of emotion. For one brief moment, he saw it. The shock. The pain. A flicker of the woman he had married.
Then it was gone.
Sophia composed herself and sat up straighter. "I see," she said. "Well, I suppose that makes things simpler."
Ethan stared at her. "Simpler? What are you talking about?"
"I am leaving you, Ethan," she said. "The divorce papers are on the table. I have already signed them. I was going to wait until after we talked about Lily, but there is no point in delaying anymore."
"You are leaving me because Lily is dying?" Ethan could not believe what he was hearing. "Our daughter is dying, and you are worried about a divorce?"
Sophia shook her head. "Our daughter was the only reason I stayed with you. She was the last thing tying me to this life. Now that she is going to die, there is nothing keeping me here. I can finally move on with my life."
Ethan stood up so fast his chair fell over. "Move on with your life? To who? Who is the other man, Sophia?"
She hesitated for just a moment. Then she met his eyes and said the name that would change everything. "Marcus Wu. His name is Marcus Wu. He is wealthy, Ethan. He is powerful. He can give me the life I deserve."
The name hit Ethan like a physical blow. Marcus Wu. The heir to the Wu family fortune. The same family that had destroyed the Chen dynasty. The same family that had killed his mother.
Sophia saw the look on his face and frowned. "What is wrong? Do you know him?"
Ethan wanted to tell her everything. He wanted to tell her who he really was. The heir to the Chen fortune. The son of the woman Marcus's family had murdered. He wanted to tell her that she was sleeping with the enemy, that Marcus Wu was using her to destroy him.
But he stopped himself. It was too late. She had already made her choice. She had already betrayed him. Why should she deserve the truth?
"You do not know what you are getting into," Ethan said quietly. "Marcus Wu is not who you think he is."
Sophia laughed. It was a cold, bitter sound. "He is not who I think he is? Ethan, you are a driver. You work for rich people. You have no idea what real wealth looks like. Marcus has promised me the world. A mansion. Luxury. Status. Everything you could never give me."
She stood up and walked toward the door. "Sign the papers. Let me go. We both know this marriage has been over for a long time. The only thing keeping us together was Lily, and she is not going to be around much longer."
Sophia walked out the door without looking back.
Ethan stood in the middle of the empty apartment, his heart pounding in his chest. His daughter was dying. His wife had left him. His enemies were laughing at him. Everything he had ever loved was being taken away.
He looked at the divorce papers on the table. He picked them up. He crumpled them in his fist and threw them against the wall with all his strength.
And then he heard it.
A crisp electronic sound. A ding that seemed to come from inside his own head. A voice, cold and mechanical, speaking words that would change everything.
"System activation complete. Host recognized. Initializing protocol. Welcome back, young master. Your long wait is finally over."
Ethan spun around. There was no one there. Just the empty apartment and the rain beating against the windows. But the voice was real. He could feel it resonating in his skull. A blue holographic screen flickered to life in front of his eyes, displaying words that made no sense.
"What are you?" Ethan whispered.
The voice responded immediately. "I am the Chen Family System. Created by your mother to protect you from those who wish you harm. I have been dormant for twenty years. Now I am awake. And I am here to help you reclaim everything that was stolen from you."
Ethan stared at the screen. His mother. His mother had created this. Before she died. Before everything was taken from him. She had built something to protect him. To help him fight back.
"What do you mean, help me?" he asked. "What can you possibly do?"
The screen flickered. A list appeared. Abilities. Skills. Information. Money. A cure for Lily's illness.
Ethan's breath caught in his throat. A cure. The system could save his daughter.
"You have to help me," he said, his voice desperate. "Please. My daughter is dying. I will do anything. I will give anything. Just help me save her."
The system chimed softly. "That is exactly why I am here, young master. Your daughter will live. Your enemies will fall. And you will rise again. This is only the beginning."
Ethan fell to his knees. The rain continued to beat against the windows. The divorce papers lay crumpled on the floor. His wife was gone. His daughter was dying. His enemies were everywhere.
But for the first time in twenty years, Ethan Chen had hope.

THE NEXT THREAT
The peaceful days did not last. Ethan should have known better. He had been around long enough to understand that happiness was fragile. That peace was temporary. That the darkness was always waiting. He was sitting in his study when the system reactivated. The blue screen flickered in front of his eyes. He had not seen it in months. He had started to believe it was gone for good. But here it was. Back again. And the message on the screen made his blood run cold.New threat detected. The true mastermind has surfaced. Your mother's killer is still alive. And they are coming for you.Ethan stared at the screen. His hands were shaking. He had thought it was over. He had thought Helen was the end of it. But the system was telling him something else. Something worse."What do you mean my mother's killer is still alive?" Ethan said. His voice was barely a whisper. "Helen confessed. She admitted everything. The system recorded it. The court heard it. She is in prison."The system responded.

The courthouse was packed. Every seat was filled. Reporters lined the walls with their cameras ready. The Wu family trial was the biggest story of the decade. His voice was calm but commanding. "Ladies and gentlemen of the jury. Today we present the case against Helen Wu. A woman who built her empire on murder, poison, and lies. THE FINAL STAND
The safe house was supposed to be secure. Ethan had chosen it carefully. The system had vetted every detail. The location was off the grid. The building was unremarkable. No one should have been able to find them. But someone had.Ethan woke to the sound of breaking glass. His eyes snapped open. His body was already moving before his mind caught up. He rolled off the mattress and grabbed Lily, pulling her close. She whimpered in her sleep. He pressed his hand over her mouth."Shh," he whispered. "Do not make a sound."The system appeared in his vision. Multiple hostiles detected. Five. Armed. Entering through the ground floor. ETA thirty seconds.Ethan looked at the room. Sarah was awake now. Her eyes were wide with terror. The nurse was already moving toward the back door. She knew the escape route. They had practiced this."Sarah," Ethan said. His voice was low. Urgent. "Take Lily. Go to the secondary location. Do not stop for anything."Sarah grabbed Lily from his arms. The little
THE CONFRONTATION
The park was quiet at this hour. The children had gone home. The parents had packed up their picnics. The only sounds were the birds in the trees and the distant hum of traffic. Ethan stood at the edge of the playground, watching Sophia sit alone on a bench. She was staring at the empty swings. Her hands were clasped in her lap. She looked smaller than he remembered. Broken. Hollow.Ethan walked toward her. His steps were slow. Deliberate. He had not seen her like this since the early days of their marriage. Back when they were young and in love. Back before the Wus had poisoned everything.Sophia looked up as he approached. Her eyes widened. She did not recognize him at first. He was still wearing the Daniel Young disguise. The suit. The face. The confidence. But then he reached up and removed the mask. He showed her his real face. The face of the man she had married. The man she had abandoned.Sophia gasped. She jumped to her feet. Her hands flew to her mouth. "Ethan? Oh my God. Eth
THE HIDDEN VAULT
The safe house was quiet. Ethan stood by the window, watching the street below. Sarah was in the back room, working on her research. Lily was sleeping peacefully, her small chest rising and falling with each breath. The nurse was in the corner, reading a book. Everything seemed calm. But Ethan knew better. The calm was an illusion. The storm was coming."Sarah," Ethan said. "How much longer until the antidote is ready?"Sarah looked up from her notes. Her face was tired. Her eyes were bloodshot. She had been working nonstop since they arrived. "A few more days. Maybe a week. I need more supplies. The Wu family destroyed most of my equipment. I am working with what I have."Ethan nodded. "I will get you whatever you need. Just tell me."Sarah sighed. "What I need is the original medical records. The ones the Wus have hidden in their vault. Without those, I cannot confirm the exact formula of the poison. I can make a general antidote, but it might not be strong enough. Lily might not su
