Soren's POV

Maelin’s voice sliced through the dead silence of the lab. “The location from the Continuum records. We’re going there now.”

Caleb’s face was tight. “A structure embedded in the network itself? Not floating in the sky. Just… there.”

I felt the pull in my chest before I even stood up. The light column outside was brighter than ever, like it was laughing at us. “Then we go. But we go quiet. No heroics.”

Nadia was already checking her rifle, eyes on the exit. “I’m with you. Full stop.”

  • CHAPTER 86: THE NETWORK IS CLOSING

Soren's POVThe screen in the bunker went black with the last line of the first returner’s warning, but the message stayed burned behind my eyes: **REFERENCE POINT ACCEPTANCE PENDING**.Nadia’s hand was still on my arm. “He’s not waiting anymore.”I grabbed the tablet. “The network’s closing in. Cassian’s isolating everything.”Maelin’s voice crackled over the comms from the main archive. “We’re losing anchors. One by one. If he finishes that isolation sequence, the Continuum Engine becomes the only system left. You reach the central structure before he locks it down or we’re all cut off.”Caleb’s face appeared beside hers on the main display. “There’s a surviving passage through the ruins. It’s unstable, only a few can go at once. Nadia, you and I go first. Soren, you wait for the signal.”I shook my head. “No. We’re a unit. I’m not leaving you two in there alone.”Maelin’s eyes narrowed. “We don’t have time for your hero routine. If the isolation completes, the Continuum owns every

  • CHAPTER 85: THE ANCHOR THAT CHOOSES

Soren's POVThe tablet screen stayed black after the warning, but the bunker felt heavier than it had any right to. I set it down on the console and rubbed my eyes. “He just handed us the proof the central anchor isn’t the only way the network works.”Nadia leaned against the wall, arms crossed tight. “And the Continuum Engine wants to use that proof to own everything. Cassian. That’s why he’s been watching us from the start.”I nodded. “The network recognized my temporal displacement the second I woke up. It treated me like a possible reference point across timelines. If Cassian forces the central anchor to accept my signature, he could route everything through me. No more separate worlds. No more safeguards. Just one control.”She shook her head. “That’s why he built the project. Not to save people. To own the network.”The door to the bunker opened with a soft hiss. Maelin stepped in first, followed by Caleb and two others I didn’t recognize. Maelin’s eyes took in the dead city map

  • CHAPTER 84: THE WORLD THAT DISAPPEARED

Soren's POVThe screen in the bunker still glowed with the last line from the first returner’s message when it suddenly blinked.*Destination unlocked. Pre-Gateway World – Archives Branch 01*Nadia stared at the text, her face tight. “He’s directing us now? Like we’re some kind of messenger?”I didn’t answer right away. I just reached out and tapped the link. The world unfolded in front of us.A dead city. Ruins stretching for miles under a sky the color of old rust. No lights. No movement. Nothing moved at all. The passage behind us faded with a low whine, leaving only the cold wind and the scent of dust and something metallic that hadn’t existed here in centuries. She stepped closer to the edge, boots crunching on cracked concrete. “This isn’t on the map. He actually sealed this place off completely.”“No,” I said, pulling my jacket tighter. “And that’s why it feels like it’s waiting for us. The first returner didn’t just pull the plug. He chose this world over every other one.”We

  • CHAPTER 83: THE FIRST RETURNER

Soren's POVThe archive screen flickered once, then locked on.My fingers hovered over the touchpad, the letter from Elodie still burning in my pocket like it had teeth. Nadia stood beside me, arms crossed tight, waiting for the next bomb to drop.“What now?” she asked, voice low.I tapped the file. The screen didn’t scroll. It just opened.A single line appeared first.*Subject: The First Returner – Pre-Gateway World*Then the text began to fill, line by line, like the network was finally showing its scars.Nadia read the first paragraph and cursed under her breath. “He wasn’t from this world. He came from somewhere the map never shows.”I scrolled. The details poured in, brutal and plain.“The first returner was a scientist. Name gone from the logs, but the research tag is still there. He figured out how to pull objects between realities. Early experiments created the first stable bridge. That bridge became the network. Nothing more. Nothing less.”She stepped closer. Her eyes scann

  • CHAPTER 82: WHY THE NETWORK KNOWS ME

Soren's POVThe shadows in the storage space weren’t shadows anymore. They were looking back.I stood frozen in the middle of the aisle, the letter from Elodie still burning in my fist. The black walking stick had vanished the moment the man, Marcus said her name. But the air stayed wrong. Thick. Heavy. Like the whole world was holding its breath.Nadia’s voice cut through it, small but sharp. “Soren?”I didn’t turn around. I couldn’t. Because if I did, I’d have to explain why my hands were shaking.“Marcus Whitaker,” I said, voice low. “That was his name. Your mother’s brother. The one you never talked about.”She stepped closer. I heard the floor creak under her boots, the sound too loud in the sudden silence. “I know who he is. Or I did. Back when I was… different. Before the dreams started.”I finally looked at her. Her eyes were wide, but there was no fear in them. Just that steady, stubborn spark I’d come to recognize. The one that had made her stay when half the world was burni

  • CHAPTER 81: THE FIRST ANCHOR

Soren's POVThe gateway behind us snapped shut with a final, merciless click. Veyra’s voice still echoed in my head like a warning I couldn’t ignore. But there was no time to grieve. The archive had spoken. It pointed to a remote world whose original anchor remained partly functional. We were going there. Now.Nadia fell into step beside me without a word. Her hand rested on her rifle, but her eyes were locked on the settlement that rose ahead of us like a stone fist against the violet sky.Maelin spoke first, voice low. “This place has been isolated for generations. They built it around their anchor because they had to. The rest of the network? They don’t know it exists. And they sure as hell don’t trust outsiders.”The local operators watched us from the edge of their camp, arms crossed. Their faces were hard. One man, scarred and silent, stepped forward.“You came through the wrong gate,” he said. “This isn’t a welcome party.”Nadia didn’t blink. “Then show us the anchor before it
