“My goodness… Did he hurt you? I’m so sorry I’m late. I had to attend my father’s meeting at the company,” a young lady blurted out the moment she threw open the door.
Judging by her aura and poise, she had already attained the rank of the Golden Sect. Then, it clicked. Deep within the body’s fractured memories, he recognized her. Becca Winthrop. She was a childhood friend who had entered the entrance trials alongside him years ago. Unlike him, she had soared, earning a place in the prestigious Golden Sect and even on many occasions tried to help him by creating a duo cultivation where a higher sect and a lower sect could cultivate together. However, she soon realised it couldn't work because of his blocked energy flow and if she continued, her spiritual energy could roast him. Since then, she has been looking for ways to help him. She had always protected him, making people believe Wallace was her lover. Their association was the primary reason Joe and his sycophants bullied him so relentlessly because Joe had pursued Becca for years, only to be flatly rejected and insulted. She had called him a tyrant, claiming no one could ever love a man of his nature. Stung by her words, Joe had begun dating a girl named Clara just to save face, all while harboring a poisonous grudge against Wallace. He couldn't understand why a high-ranking beauty like Becca would choose a "trash" outcast over him. Every time Joe tried to break Wallace, Becca would appear, forcing them to back down. Her father owned the conglomerate that employed most of their parents and one wrong move meant their families would be out on the street. “Why didn't you send for me?” Becca asked, her voice softening. “You could have easily traded those gold bars I sent you for a secure comms-call…” She trailed off, but Wallace remained silent, drowning in confusion. Gold bars? A call? He didn't remember any of this. Perhaps his "immortal" soul hadn't fully integrated with these jagged, suppressed memories yet. He thought as she walked to the side of the bed and punched a passcode into a hidden wall-safe he hadn't known existed. “I’m sure you don’t even remember the code,” she sighed. “You were always too proud. You promised me you wouldn't touch the gold, even though it’s yours.” As the safe clicked open, Wallace’s eyes widened. Piles of heavy gold bars lay neatly inside. Tucked beneath them was a sleek Black Card that couldn't be acquired by an ordinary person. “All of this… is mine?” he whispered, his voice rasping. How was this possible? As a low-tier trainee, gold was earned through dangerous tasks and with this kind of weak body, he could never complete them. “Of course, dummy!” Becca laughed shortly. “But how would you know? You refused to even look at the gifts your mother and I sent you.” Again, memories filled his head. He could remember a weeping woman who tried to reach out to a boy that was dragged away. Then, it burst. He was the only son of a Great Elder of the Sage Sect who could peer into the future and was obsessed with reaching godhood. His mother was a Primordial Spirit-Mother, a master of the soul’s deepest origins. When his father discovered Wallace was born with a Heaven-Defying Physique (a rare body capable of generating infinite energy), the Sage turned into a monster. He stole the mother's original power to fuel his own ascension, framed her as a "Witch," imprisoned her and turned her into an ordinary human. He then spent years "caging" the boy’s spiritual roots and turned him into a Human Pill while simply waiting for the boy's blood and the mother's essence to reach a perfect, stagnant equilibrium. Once the energy was ripe, he intended to devour Wallace’s core to become an eternal deity. And Wallace, blinded by his father’s lies, had spent his life resenting the mother who was actually his only protector. By the time the "original" Wallace had realized the truth, it was already too late because he was almost at the brink of death. Wallace clenched his fists so hard that his knuckles turned white. “Where is my mother?” he demanded. Becca frowned, her gaze turning sharp and worried. “You’ve never asked her. You wouldn't even accept her help. Why now? I thought…” “Becca. Please. Take me to her.” He said again, desperate. He couldn't believe he had spent years resenting his mother because his father said she was a witch that couldn't let him cultivate. Becca’s expression softened into a look of sadness. “It’s been four years… she has been waiting for this moment every single day.” She took his hand firmly. “Because of your low rank, you aren't legally allowed to leave the academy grounds. But I’ll take the risk. Just don't let go of my hand.” With that, she placed a peck on his forehead which flattered him as they walked out of the dormitory towards the main gate. A few minutes later, they were outside. Waves of fresh breeze blew past his ears as he felt like he was about to explode from within. Of course the body could feel it also. He couldn't understand how the previous owner had been so easily deceived, how he could have traded a mother's love for a father's poison. “Hold on… let me get my car from the garage over there!” She said and scurried off while he watched her leave in confusion again. He watched in wary silence as a massive metal "container" roared past him on the street. He nearly jumped, his hand instinctively reaching for a sword that wasn't there. Everything felt surreal, as if he had spent a thousand years meditating in a cave only to wake up in a world of steel and glass. The sharp blast of a horn made him flinch. A sleek, polished vehicle pulled up beside him while the tinted window slid down, revealing Becca’s smiling face. “Get in, Wallace. It’s unlocked.” “What is this?” he asked, approaching the "container" with extreme caution. She laughed, thinking he was joking. “I know it’s fancy! I got it two years ago for my birthday. I wanted to invite you, but...” She trailed off, sensing his strange mood. Wallace climbed in, his body tensing as the engine purred to life. He managed to maintain his composure as they sped away, though the speed of the machine made his immortal soul feel incredibly vulnerable. They drove for a while before the scenery changed from gleaming skyscrapers to a decaying ghetto that reeled of cheap alcohol and stale cigarettes. “I’m sorry,” Becca said softly as she pulled over. “But your mother refused my father's help after your father… disappeared. She was too proud to take charity from anyone associated with the Sect…” She pointed toward a crumbling, old building that looked as though it might collapse at any moment. “She’s in there. Go. I’ll give you two some time to talk before I come in.” Wallace stared at the wretched building. He could feel the body’s heart thumping hard with a mixture of the "old" Wallace’s guilt and his own curiosity. He stepped out of the car and walked toward the entrance. Wallace stared at the building for a while and shook his head. He could realize how much this body had yearned for motherly love but had been blinded by hatred. A minute later, he reached for the door of the apartment when the sharp, violent sound of shattering glass echoed from inside and made him stop in his tracks.Latest Chapter
14. The bounty
Yemeni's face fell completely flat. He secretly gritted his teeth in humiliation, realizing just how much of a fool he had made of himself. The throbbing pain in his shattered jaw from the robot's physical blows was nothing compared to the pain of being laughed at by Becca.Turning away from her pathetic brother, Becca looked down at Wallace, her expression softening into a warm smile. “My sincere apologies for whatever you just had to witness, Wallace. How about you come inside so we can talk?”Wallace nodded and followed her into the mansion, secretly wondering if this young lady had already forgotten how chaotic their very last encounter had been.As they walked into the living room, Wallace cleared his throat. “Becca, about what just happened to your brother, I…”“Oh, please!” She dismissed his concern with a wave of her hand as she sank into the nearest couch. “You know how much I despise him. That leech is nothing but trouble. If it weren't for the sudden bottleneck I hit durin

“And what if I did?”A familiar, mocking voice cut through the corner of the environment. Only then did Wallace turn around, his eyes narrowing as he scoffed.“I knew you would stoop low, Yemeni, but bringing your security men into this? The time you spent orchestrating this could have been used to actually improve your cultivation. What a waste.”Yemeni however sneered as he clenched his fists until his knuckles turned white. He loathed this trash and badly wanted him dead! By all rights, Yemeni was superior in every way… wealth, status, and cultivation realm but looking at Wallace, an uncomfortable thought crossed his mind. It felt as if Wallace possessed some hidden, unfathomable backing that he couldn't quite understand.Desperate to regain the upper hand, Yemeni leaned in with a smirk all over his face. “I see the death of your mother hasn't taken a toll on you yet. Just wait until she’s buried, and then…”“Why? Are you waiting for her to die because you desperately hope that
12. Yemeni's cunning actions
“Mother…” Wallace muttered in horror the moment he sighed his mother whose body had almost turned dark within a few hours of the attack. Yet, he knew he had to do everything to save her just for the sake of the Old Wallace. “Wallace…. I told you not to bother…” she said, holding him warmly as she coughed slightly, knowing fully well that her soul was almost slipping off her body. Wallace however walked away from her, hurriedly mixing the herbs with water. Just as he was done, he hurriedly forced her to drink it. He knew how much of a miracle it was for her to stay alive up till that moment even though he could not identify the actual poison. “There's something important I need to let you know,” she said after a while. “Those debt collectors that came the other day still have head bosses. In fact, they are still coming…” She muttered while Wallace smiled. He could see that even though she was no longer a Primordial Spirit-Mother, the herbs recognized the body and kind of sharpene

Chapter 11Half an hour later, Wallace arrived at his detached apartment. He paused, his eyes narrowing at the black Lexus parked directly opposite his gate. The owner had clearly been waiting for some time. In this neighborhood, the kind of car stood awkward because of how much of a high profile both the car and the person was as she leaned against it. “Wally!” She called out the moment she spotted him. Only then did Wallace stop because of how familiar the voice seemed to be. He stifled a scoff. Sally was his cousin, the daughter of the man who had conspired to betray Wallace’s mother. After his father had stripped his mother of her primordial essence, he had funneled those stolen resources into Sally’s training, turning her into the "genius" she was today. He couldn't believe how gullible the "old" Wallace had been by treating these vipers like family. He looked down at the faint scar on his lower arm that reminded him of the time he had taken a fall to save her life.“I know yo
10. Red-eyed gang
Half an hour later, Wallace walked out of the forest in a hurry with a full sack of leaves hanging on his back. He was only a few miles from home when the atmosphere shifted. From the shadows of the road emerged a pack of cultivators with eyes like glowing embers known as the "Red-Eyed Gang."It was a strange sight, yet a familiar one. These were the students of his former sect, students cast out for dark misconduct long before he became a student. Now, they were little more than lapdogs for evil cultivators. In his memory, Wallace saw them clearly: they were the ones who had relentlessly targeted him, held back only by Becca’s protection. They had expected his story to end in the gutter, just like theirs.Yet, on seeing that he came out of the forest they dared not enter with a bag of herbs, their shock tripled and now, what they wanted was more than what they thought initially. Wallace offered a weary sigh and tried to step past. A hand clamped onto his shoulder, jerking him back
9. The forest
A few minutes later, Wallace found his way into the inner core of the forest, with each herb calling for his attention. However, using his knowledge as a powerful past cultivator, he knew that most of these plants were poisonous despite their attractive appearance. Only then did he stumble across specimens he never thought he would see in this universe: Sky-anchor Vine, Cicada Petal, and Star-plucking Grass. Together, they represented the bone, blood, and breath required to rebuild the broken bridges to the heavens and soften his withered tissues.“My goodness!” he exclaimed in shock. With these herbs and a few wisps of ambient energy, the body he was stuck in was primed to break through to the next stage of Qi.He quickly gathered them and prepared to move to the next section of the dark forest. Suddenly, he screamed in agony, dropping the leaves as he collapsed. Before he could realize what was happening, an Emerald Glint Serpent coiled around him, constricting so tightly that he
