Mu Qiu jolted awake, the stench of decay filling his nostrils. He wasn't in his old apartment; he was sprawled on cracked asphalt, surrounded by the moans of the undead. He was reborn in the apocalypse. Worse, his body, dormant for two years, had mutated. He was a Corpse King, an apex predator with the power to devour and assimilate. Then, a voice echoed in his mind, clear and precise. [Congratulations, Host! You have successfully bound the Supreme World Sign-In System!] [You have arrived at your first sign-in location: Ravaged City Center. Reward: Holy Lord's Demonic Energy.] Mu Qiu stared at his clawed hands, the flesh pale and cold. A system? In this hellhole? [Next sign-in location: Mutated Zombie Hive. Estimated time: 12 hours.] [Daily Quest: Devour 100 Lesser Undead. Reward: Evolution Points.] [Status: Corpse King - Level 1. Evolution Points: 0. Demonic Energy: Acquired.] [Inventory: Empty.] He could see the information floating in his vision, like a translucent screen. The world was a nightmare, and survival as a human was impossible. But as a Corpse King with a system? That was a different story. [Would you like to absorb the Holy Lord's Demonic Energy?] Mu Qiu's jaw clenched. Yes. [Absorption commencing...]

Chapter 1

chapter 1: Awakening in the Ruins

In a certain city in China, the once prosperous streets had now become dilapidated. Scrapped and damaged vehicles were randomly discarded on the roadside. Old bloodstains marred the asphalt.

A gust of breeze stirred several old plastic bags, a grim testament to human activity in this city that had long lost its vitality.

"Roar—"

Several zombies in ragged clothes and hideous faces wandered along the side of the street. Their dull and empty eyes were bloodshot, and their hands constantly groped the air. Mutated and infected, they no longer relied on sight to hunt prey. Instead, they used their keen sense of smell and acute hearing.

Suddenly, a zombie seemed to catch a scent and snapped its head up—

Puff!

The next moment, its head shattered!

Blood spattered like rain, glistening everywhere. The smell of blood instantly attracted a swarm of nearby zombies.

A wave of zombies surged forward, accompanied by a flash of bloody light and a terrifying roar that grew closer.

"Roar—"

Poof!

More blood splattered in the air, staining the dim street red.

Upon closer inspection, the bloody light revealed a massive zombie monster, several meters tall and covered in gore! The blood-red zombie leaped ferociously onto a scrapped car, then bounded away quickly. Broken glass shards and fine bullet holes marked the car's hood.

Bang—

As the glass fragments hit the ground, the bullet-riddled car exploded.

The dilapidated wreckage, along with gunpowder smoke and dirty dust, filled the air. Mixed with the strong stench of blood, a thick, sandstorm-like fog swept across the streets.

On the other side of the dusty sky, a group of soldiers in special forces gear chased after the monster at high speed, but halted before the thick fog. The leading captain, wearing a mask, picked up his communicator and said,

"Mist appeared in area B1, and we lost the Fire Lord..."

After a pause, a cold female voice responded,

"Understood. Hold area 81 and prevent the target from escaping. I'm sending ability users to assist. Do your best to surround and suppress the Balrog Lord!"

"Yes!"

The leader put down the communicator, waved to his teammates, and the team moved forward.

On the other side of the thick blood mist, red zombie figures flashed through the city, emitting ear-piercing roars.

Nearby zombies trembled instinctively, then echoed the roars.

"Ouch!"

The city at night grew even more eerie.

The red figure continued its wild dash, then swooped towards a high-rise building. The impact shattered the glass and penetrated the entire structure!

White smoke billowed behind it as the building collapsed. The red-clothed zombie crashed into a deep alley below without looking back.

Hiss—

When the body hit the wall, sparks flew! The red zombie fell to the ground at the alley's entrance, twitching.

Its blood-red eyes were filled with violence and bloodlust. A zombie staggered towards the alley.

Strangely, the zombie didn't avoid the red monster like the others. Instead, it roared, ice-blue mist exuding from its mouth.

The red zombie's strong arm shot out, grabbing the zombie's face!

Amazingly, the thick arm exploded into a ball of blood mist. The mist condensed into a blood-colored vine. Blood bubbles appeared on the vine, and the captured zombie gradually shrank, as if drained of blood.

Slowly, the red zombie's eyes grew redder, while the captured zombie turned into a mummy and was discarded.

The red zombie covered its head, roaring deeply, then collapsed. Its body began to "waste away," the red skin fading to a pale hue.

Even more unbelievably, the blood-red monster transformed into a handsome young man!

On a street a few hundred meters away, a group of soldiers in blue special forces uniforms searched methodically.

Monster-like roars echoed through the silent streets. In a dark, deep alley, a young man in ragged clothes lay against the wall, seemingly lifeless. But his chest rose and fell slightly.

Awakened by the "night," the young man's eyelashes fluttered, and he opened his eyes.

Touching his dazed head, Mu Qiu, who had just "woken up," felt as if his body was falling apart.

"If I had known about the graduation party, I wouldn't have drunk so much, huh—why does my whole body hurt..."

"Why?"

Rubbing his sore eyes, Mu Qiu realized he wasn't in his comfortable bed, but in a deep alley.

He instinctively recoiled, his hand brushing something. Turning, he discovered it wasn't a stone, but a shriveled and hideous mummy!

"Fuck!" Mu Qiu was about to scream, but chaotic memories flooded his brain!

Scenes of Asura Hell flashed before him—a red figure, covered in blood-stained garments, surrounded by a mountain of corpses!

Each corpse was shrunken and horrified, as if it had suffered a terrible fate.

The blood-clothed figure looked like a world-destroying monster!

"Roar—"

Zombies surrounded the blood-clothed figure, roaring fearlessly!

And before the figure stood a massive, one-horned monster of unknown species—lava boiled across its body, and it charged with its bloody mouth agape...
