Leo scanned the room. The Adrenaline Override serum was powerful, but it would not last forever. He could feel his heart beating too fast. He needed a heavy weapon, but he was not strong enough to lift anything large.
His eyes fell upon a long, solid wooden pool cue lying on the ground near the broken table.
Leo reached down and picked it up. It felt light in his hands.
The giant mercenary saw Leo holding the thin wooden stick and laughed even louder.
"You are going to fight me with a stick?" the giant mocked, taking a heavy step forward. "My armor stops bullets, kid. That stick will break on my chest."
"I am not going to hit you with it," Leo said quietly.
His HUD shifted. The blue lines began to draw a new diagram. It was not a trajectory line this time. It was a mechanical diagram.
The system was highlighting the physics of the environment.
[Analyzing Mechanical Advantage.]
[Principle: Leverage.] [Identifying Fulcrum Point.]A bright glowing triangle appeared on the ground. It was pointing to a heavy, solid piece of the broken pool table's wooden leg that had fallen over.
[Identifying Projectile.]
A glowing circle appeared over a heavy, thick glass ashtray sitting on the floor. It was made of solid crystal and weighed at least three pounds.
[Identifying Lever.]
The HUD highlighted the pool cue in Leo’s hands.
The giant took another step forward, raising his hammer. "Time to die."
Leo moved with lightning speed. He did not swing the pool cue. Instead, he dropped to one knee.
He slid the long wooden pool cue directly over the broken piece of the table leg, using the table leg as a perfect fulcrum point. He positioned the cue stick so that the front end was resting on the floor, pointing up toward the giant’s face.
Then, Leo quickly grabbed the heavy crystal ashtray and placed it securely on the short, front end of the pool cue.
The pool cue was no longer a stick. It was a lever. It was a makeshift catapult. It was a projectile launcher.
The math was simple. Archimedes had discovered it thousands of years ago. A lever amplifies force. If you push down on the long end of a lever, the short end moves up with massive power and speed.
The giant mercenary looked down, confused by what Leo was doing. He paused for half a second.
That was all the time Leo needed.
Leo stood up, raised his right leg high in the air, and brought his heavy sneaker down with all of his supercharged strength directly onto the back end of the pool cue.
STOMP!
The physics worked perfectly. The long end of the pool cue slammed into the floor. The short end, resting over the wooden fulcrum, shot upward with explosive, terrifying speed.
The three-pound crystal ashtray was launched into the air like a cannonball.
Because the HUD had calculated the exact angle of the lever, the ashtray did not fly wildly. It flew on a perfectly straight line, directly into the giant’s face.
The giant did not even have time to blink.
CRASH!
The heavy crystal ashtray smashed directly into the giant’s protective helmet visor. The thick, bulletproof glass of the visor shattered instantly under the focused kinetic impact. The crystal broke into jagged pieces, slicing into the giant’s face and knocking his head violently backward.
"Arghhhhh!" the giant screamed, dropping his sledgehammer. He grabbed his bleeding face with both hands, stumbling backward blindly.
He was severely hurt, but his massive size kept him on his feet. He was furious.
"I'll tear you apart!" the giant roared blindly, swinging his massive arms in the air, trying to grab Leo.
Leo did not retreat. The giant was blind and off-balance. It was time to finish him.
Leo grabbed the pool cue again. The thick wood had not broken. He looked at the floor behind the stumbling giant.
[Calculating Environmental Hazard.]
[Target: Rusted floor grate.]The bar was old. Behind the giant was a heavy iron grate set into the floor, covering a deep drainage pipe.
Leo ran forward, sliding beneath the giant's wildly swinging arms.
He jammed the thick end of the pool cue deep under the heavy iron floor grate. Once again, he was using the cue not as a club, but as a lever.
The giant took a heavy, blind step backward.
"Now!" Leo shouted. He pulled down hard on the top of the pool cue.
The iron floor grate popped out of the floor, creating an open, dangerous hole exactly where the giant was stepping.
The giant’s heavy boot went straight into the open hole.
With a sickening CRUNCH, the giant's leg bent backward. The massive mercenary fell forward, his leg trapped tightly in the floor. His heavy chest armor slammed into the broken pool table. He was completely stuck, unable to stand, groaning in deep pain.
[Target 2 Neutralized.]
[Leverage Bonus Applied: +30% Experience to Intelligence.]Leo stood panting, leaning on the pool cue like a walking stick.
Suddenly, a loud burst of gunfire filled the room.
Leo spun around. The third mercenary had tried to sneak up on Maya while Leo was fighting the giant. But Maya was faster. She had rolled across the floor, kicked the mercenary in the knee, and fired three bullets point-blank into the unarmored joints under his arms.
The third mercenary collapsed to the ground, dead.
The bar was silent again, except for the sound of the rain outside and the moaning of the injured men on the floor.
Raphael, still trapped under the chandelier, was staring at Leo with wide, terrified eyes. He had seen everything. He had seen a skinny street kid use pool balls, sticks, and math to destroy a team of professional, armored killers.
"What are you?" Raphael whispered in horror. "You are not human."
