Chapter 1

BUGH!

A young man tumbled into the wall because someone kicked him. As he tried to stand, someone kicked him again in the stomach and he fell to the floor.

People in the class saw the incident and put on a worried face. They did not take any action, afraid that the bullies would also bully them if they helped Rex Hart. 

In this school, no one did not know about Rex Hart. He was a clever student who got a scholarship and was famous among the teachers. However, Rex was bullied because he had a poor background.

Even though Rex had a tall and big physique, he never fought the bullies. People assumed that he was afraid of the bullies who came from wealthy families. This caused him to be bullied for years.

“Look, no one wants to help you,” Julio Maxwell, the leader of the bullies, spoke with a mocking smile. “Now you understand your position, right?”

The question went unanswered because Rex’s mouth was badly injured. He wanted to moan in pain, but that would only make the bullies hurt him even more.

Unfortunately, Julio did not like Rex’s silence, the person whom he had bullied all this time. He never considered Rex a human. He saw Rex as a toy that could cheer him up when he was bored. 

Now Julio crouched down to grab Rex’s hair and laughed loudly after seeing his injured face. “I asked you just now, Loser. Why didn’t you answer me? Do you wanna fight me?”

“N-no, I don’t...” Rex did not continue because Julio suddenly slapped his mouth.

“Hey, since when does a pig speak human language?”

Julio’s insults made the other bullies burst out laughing. They were really satisfied when they saw a gloomy expression on Rex’s face. It was an expression they always enjoyed when bullied him.

“We’d better continue this another time. The break will be over in five minutes,” said one of them, glancing at the clock on the wall.

Julio snorted in annoyance, knowing that the fun had to end now. Before leaving, he gave Rex a kick in the stomach until he coughed violently. Then he sat in his chair without feeling guilty at all.

On the other hand, Rex was trying to stand up because a big problem could happen if the teacher found out about this problem. He did not want to get into trouble on graduation day. Either because of his strong endurance or because he was used to being bullied, he was able to walk to his seat quickly.

“What happened to your face?” The teacher who had just entered realized that one of his students was injured.

Rex answered the question with a big smile. “I fell down the stairs during break time. Thanks for worrying about me, Miss Aline.”

“Do I need to take you to the hospital? I’ll tell the other teachers to postpone the graduation for a few hours.”

“No, you don’t need to. My classmates are waiting for graduation day and I don’t want to destroy it, Miss.”

Miss Aline had no choice but to agree with Rex. This was not the first time she had seen her student seriously injured. She knew someone was bullying Rex, but he never reported the problem and left the teacher incapable of taking any action.

After graduation day, Rex went straight to a restaurant to do his part-time job. He had no friends to celebrate school graduation with. All this time, he worked as a waiter to earn money. However, today the bullies gave him so many wounds that he had to serve customers with pain.

At first, everything went smoothly because Rex could handle the pain well. He just could not hold it in any longer. The peak of his pain occurred when he was serving a female customer. He accidentally spilled the drink on the woman’s clothes.

“You’ve got no eyes!” The woman snapped as she got up from the chair and slapped Rex. 

Her actions attracted the attention of other customers in the restaurant, but she did not seem to care. “This dress is worth a thousand dollars. A poor guy like you can’t afford this shirt!” the woman continued angrily.

Rex was silent for a moment because the woman slapped right on the wound Julio had made on his face. Then he bowed and said, “Please forgive me. I’ll pay for your clothes later. Can you give me a few months?”

“Tsk, that’s a long time! Where’s your boss? Bring him here!” The woman crossed her arms over her chest.

“I-I promise to pay for your clothes. That’s why you don’t need to talk about this with my boss.”

“I have to report to him about an incompetent waiter! Can’t you hear me?” 

Even though he did not want to, Rex was forced to go to his boss and bring him to the woman. He could only look down when the woman complained to the boss. It was obvious that his work would end at this very moment.

“Please forgive me for making you uncomfortable. What can I do to ease your anger? I will compensate for losses and in return, I will take away my waiter’s monthly salary,” the boss explained nervously because the woman in front of him looked like a rich person.

However, the woman instead shook her head for fear that her falsehood would be exposed. The dress she wore today did not cost a thousand dollars. It was just an imitation of those famous brands. Earlier, she had said nonsense because she was angry.

The woman cleared her throat and then looked at Rex, who was still looking down. “I won’t make a fuss about my clothes if this waiter is fired!”

“But....”

“You don’t want to? I can sue your restaurant for employing an unprofessional waiter.”

The boss glanced at Rex and the woman in turn. He was worried because he knew that Rex was a student who worked part time. That meant Rex needed money, even though a youngster his age just needed to study and did not have to work hard.

However, the boss was also anxious about the reputation of his restaurant if he did not comply with the woman’s wishes. He could not give up his restaurant just for Rex, who was not his family. This restaurant was the only place he made money, the place where his family’s life depended.

In the end, the boss had no choice but to say, “Rex, you got fired today! You made a big mistake, so I can’t tolerate you this time.”

“You made the right decision. Since the matter has been resolved, then I will go,” The woman lifted her chin arrogantly, then she took her bag and left the restaurant.

After the woman left, the boss looked at Rex with concern. “Where will you work after you get fired? I can recommend you to my friends.”

“Thanks, Boss. You don’t have to because tomorrow I’m moving to another city for college. Can I go home now?” Rex spoke with a big smile.

“I’m glad to hear that.”

“Hope your restaurant goes well, boss. I’m leaving now.”

“Be careful on the road!”

Even though Rex left the restaurant with a smile, his face turned sad when he got home. He just wanted to have a normal life, but people made things difficult for him. They bothered him just because he did not have much money.

Rex did not understand the concept of bullying. He had a poor life and people seemed annoyed by it. Why did they bully him just because he had no money? How strange. 

When Rex was about to treat his wound, suddenly the phone rang. He ignored the call after seeing who called him. However, he was forced to answer the call because the person kept calling him.

“Young master.”

Before Rex could speak, an old man on the telephone greeted him. He took a deep breath and said, “I asked you not to call me that way.”

“But that would be rude, Young Master.”

“If you still call me that, then I’ll turn off the phone.”

“Don’t do it, Young Master! I mean, don’t do it.”

Rex, who was originally irritated, immediately laughed at the caller’s behavior. Curiously, he asked, “Uncle Morris, why did you call me?”

“Today you have graduated from high school.”

“Then?”

“Don’t you want to come back? Mr. Carlton misses you very much.”

“Please tell dad that I don’t want to come back. I have to hang up because I have a business!”

Without waiting for a reply, Rex immediately hung up the call and rushed over to treat his wound. Tomorrow he would go to the best university in another city. He was sure his gloomy life would end because he had separated from bullies.
