Chapter 5

Lucian's hands ran through the outlines of the documents as the trickle of perspiration went down his spine.

“But why did you hide this from me all this while leaving me to suffer the torrent of this world?" He could not help but inquire as the thoughts stormed through his mind multiple times but an explanation of it still refused to get into his head.

His eyes seemed to be searching deep through her, seeking an answer and knowing that he was going to get it pretty soon, he was relaxed.

“Because of the way your father died.“ She replied. But as much as he tried to think about it, he still could not get a grasp on what she was trying to talk about.

“I'm confused. Can you enlighten me? What has my father's death got to do in all of this?“ He replied swiftly, his hands running through the last details of the documents as he returned them to the table that lay before him.

Lucian's heart was racing fast as though it was going to pop from his chest as he continued to stare at her, waiting for a response.

“The truth behind your father's death was hidden from the public and framed as though he died in his sleep. The truth is that there were enemies who wanted him dead. He was assassinated." Sydney finally explained to him

“And for this reason, he sent you out until you turned twenty-one to keep you safe.“ She explained further to him.

He could hardly remember the face of the one that he called his father.

With the pain that laced around his heart, it seemed to rip him even more, like a stab right through his chest.

He thought about his father being gruesomely murdered.

"And his murderers?" He inquired with his hands clenched but instead of giving him the response that he prayed for, she only shook her head..

"We haven't been able to find out who they were and why they came."

His hands were clenched with so much anger. No matter what, he was certainly going to avenge the death of his parents.

“And what do you think? That those people that wanted my father dead won't be back?“

But to this question that was just asked, she didn't have an answer.

She shook her head and even without using words, he could already tell the message that she was trying to pass across to him.

Clapping her hands, two guards appeared from the rear, walking swiftly towards him with a card in their hands.

"Lady Sydney. Young Master." They bowed slightly.

Pulling off from her seat, she walked towards them and retrieved the card, the ring, and a small pearl.

“This is for you, Young Master.“ Sydney could not help but continue using the words no matter how much uncomfortable it made him.

She slowly handed it over to him with a smile on her face

Lucian's face flooded with so much curiosity and confusion as he took the card from her, examining every single detail of the rare beauty.

“I don't understand. What's this for?" He could no longer help it but Inquired.

“Your father prepared that especially for today.  It's a diamond platinum card that can't be found anywhere in the world.“ She explained.

"Happy birthday young Master." She smiled.

That was the first time since he remembered that anyone was wishing him a happy birthday and it warmed his heart so much.

"It contains ten billion dollars for your living expenses." She explained to him apart from the one you have already been offered.

This was prepared for you by your father for your birthday and benefits to be unlocked when you turn eighteen.

Her voice suddenly broke and he could sense the pain in her eyes...

But he never got to do it." He finally said.

He could feel the pain but he pulled his mind away from it. Remembering his father's death gave him so much heartbreak

"I'm going to make you rest peacefully, Father." He muttered under his breath.

His hands shuddered as he never thought that he would ever be able to hold such an amount of money all his life.

Just then, his stomach made a rumbling sound as his face flooded with so much embarrassment.

“You must be a really hungry young master.“

“Your meal has already been catered for till your dismissal at the Litton restaurant.“ She explained to him handing him over the card.

He could not believe that all of that was happening to him when he thought that his life had eventually met with a crumbling block.

His face flooded with so much amazement as he walked around with guards.

Even though all the treasures that were before him now belonged to him, he could not help but marvel at the extremely beautiful sight.

Speeding off towards the bathroom, for the first time in his life, he had a steam bath after which he was driven off to the restaurant that was going to get his meal.

“I will take it from here.“ Lucian said to the driver but he didn't seem to comprehend what he was trying to pass across to him

“Young Master?“ His face was clouded with so much confusion waiting for more information about what he just said.

“I can't  leave you now, young master." His hands shrugged under the steering as  streams of sweat flooded from the corner of his face

"I am to protect you, Lady Sydney is going to be furious when she finds out anything about this.

"She is only going to find out if any of us  spills." He replied.

The driver was about to object but he raised his hands, preventing him from putting out a single word from his mouth.

“You don't have to worry. I am your young master and you should be taking orders from me right?" His eyebrows furrowed and right now, the driver knew that there was absolutely nothing that he could do about it.

He finally nodded his head with an affirmative defeat.

“Okay, Young master.“ His voice was laced with every trace of respect in his eyes.

Lucian came down from the car and made his way towards the receptionist.

The restaurant was clotted with a fleet of attractive cars showing the worth of people who were actually inside the place.

Drawing a really deep breath, he forged ahead.

The card was firm in his hands as he walked gradually into the massive restaurant and made his way towards the reception.

Outlined with a red carpet and a touch of gold his heart raced fast.

When he got there, his hands were sped off through the sleek table as the receptionist seemed to be busy on the laptop that she was working on.

“I'm sorry sir. Trying to prepare some files.“ The voice seemed a little bit familiar but he pushed the thoughts away from his head immediately

“It's okay.“ He responded.

“So what do you want?“ She inquired without looking upwards.

“And I'll get your statements ready in a jiffy.“

“Just a decent meal.“ Lucian said

“And I have a special invitation.“ He replied.

Immediately he spat out the words from his mouth, the receptionist was forced to shift his head forward almost immediately.

Lucien was hit with a sudden familiarity with the lady who stood before him.

"Sia?" He muttered

She was his girlfriend until they eventually parted ways. Right from the very first day, she never thought that Lucian was good enough for the Ashton family.

“Disgusting Lucian, What are you doing here? Aren't you tired of causing trouble already?“ She frowned as a Long hiss escaped from her mouth.

“Hmmm. Let me think. I'm waiting for my lady for the ball.“ Lucian replied, plugging her into even more confusion than she already was.

“What are you talking about?“ The frown on Sia's face deepened even more.

“Since you asked me what I was doing here? That was the only response that I could come up with since this place looked like a restaurant to me.“ He replied. His voice was as calm as it could ever be.

Sia's face twisted with so much anger, and her rage was already spilling over as she stared right into his eyes as though she was ready to rip him apart.

“Lucian?“ She growled with so much hatred and disgust in her voice, stamping her hands hard on the table.

"That's me," Lucian replied with an intimidating Aura around him.
