Chapter 15

Mr. Lesley Gibson nodded a few times. While Adolphus waited for him to say something, the place remained silent.

He had a sober look on his face and after a long pause, he let out an apology.

“I'm sorry for my past behavior. I was wrong to have judged you by your financial status.”

Adolphus smiled faintly, nodded his head and without a word, he opened the door and left the office.

Around the office corridor, Richmond and his friends stood guard like watchdogs, glaring at him as though he was their next meal. Surprisingly, Svetlana was not there in their midst. She'd earlier bumped into her friends and left with them.

Adolphus had made up his mind not to engage them but that wasn't the case for them.

Richmond dragged him by the shirt when he met up with them and shoved him aside.

“What did you do to get the head of department on your side? Tell me what is going on between you two.”

"Get out of my way. I don't have time for entitled brats like you.” Adolphus retorted coldly and tried to walk away but Richmond wouldn't let him be.

His friends blocked the path of Adolphus, preventing him from leaving.

“You don't walk out on me, loser. Or I'll have no choice but to teach you some manners." 

“I think you need that manner more than I do. Clearly, your parents did not do a good job instilling some manners in you.” Adolphus fired black at him with no fear in his eyes.

Those words of his got Richmond really enraged that he nearly went mad.

He walked up to Adolphus, closing in on him before saying in a very serious tone.

“Repeat those words again and you'll feel the wrath of a mannerless person." 

“Hmph." Adolphus chuckled dryly before glancing briefly at the other boys.

Turning to Richmond whose looks were like he was about to strangle him, Adolphus was not afraid to repeat his words.

In fact, it's Richmond who should be afraid but clearly, he was ignorant of who he was dealing with.

Adolphus, who was a little taller than Richmond, slightly lowered his head and with his eyes on Richmond's, he repeated his previous words.

“I just said that your parents didn't do a good job raising you. They failed at their parenting duties since you turned out to be an arrogant brat." 

“If I'm wrong, then you're free to correct me." Adolphus added, raising his brows at Richmond who was trying so hard to pull himself together.

Adolphus was expecting Richmond to react or order his friends to beat him up but nothing like that happened.

He just remained silent, smiling evilly while his thoughts remained unsettled.

There were not many students around there at that time. It was only the ones who passed by and acknowledged him as their president.

Many students no longer spoke about the video of when he was arrested. Richmond's supporters made sure that the gossip was brought down.

The next minute, he did something that surprised Adolphus.

He let out a very loud laugh and his friends were forced to join him so as not to be yelled at.

Adolphus just stood aside and was watching with a smiling face.

He knew that those laughter were not real. They were concealing his anger and that's the reason he hadn't displayed an outburst.

After the laughter died down, Richmond forced out a smile and muttered to Adolphus in a low voice.

“Watch your back, that's my advice to you." 

“Come on guys, let's get out of here." He said to his friends and they began to leave the place.

Adolphus followed behind, walking slowly as he watched them enter Richmond's car.

Just then, it began to rain and there was nowhere for him to enter and avoid the rain.

Adolphus decided to walk to the hostel while inside the rain but suddenly saw an umbrella above his head.

He turned his face and saw Abigail giving him a serious look.

“Come on, Adol. Stop putting so much pressure on yourself. Why are you walking in the rain?" 

“Do you want to fall sick?" 

For a moment, Adolphus only stared back at the bold and beautiful girl before him.

She was not smiling at him. In fact, the look on her face was familiar. Just the look his mother gives to him while she's scolding him.

Abigail was really acting like his mother at that moment.

“Um… Thank you Abigail.” Adolphus broke the awkward silence between them. “But don't worry about me, I'll be fine. Getting beaten by the rain means nothing to me.”

"But it'll get you sick so I have to worry for the sake of your mother. I don't want you falling sick and getting her so worried.”

"You have to stop being so careless because it's blood that runs through your veins. You can't keep overworking yourself like your life has a duplicate." 

Abigail took out a handkerchief from her bag and began to clean Adolphus's face and head.

Her kindness and concern was really touching and Adolphus had no choice but to speak politely to her unlike other times.

“Thank you for your concern." 

He took the handkerchief from her hands and nodded a little.

“You're welcome, Adol. And remember that I'll always have your back. You're free to ask for help any time you need it.”

"Don't be shy, ok?”

With that, she handed him the extra umbrella on her hand and began to walk away. “See you later." 

"I'll wash and return your handkerchief next time we meet.” Adolphus spoke to her retreating back and she only waved at him.

While Abigail walked away, Adolphus stood at a spot, wondering what planet she came from.

How can she be the only Graham with some heart? It was almost like their blood did not run through her veins.
