Chapter 21

Two hours had already passed with Donald and Glover trying to contact Adolphus but none of them could reach him.

They called his phone many times but it was reachable.

They even went to the hostel and could not find him.

Outside their hostel, Abigail suddenly showed up before them. She saw the worried look on their faces and inquired seriously.

“Guys, what's going on?" 

“Adolphus is nowhere to be found and his number isn't reachable." 

“I've also been trying his number." Abigail confessed. And with furrowed brows, she took out her phone and dialed the number again. It was still not reachable.

Turning to the friends, she shook her head many times and muttered. “It's still unreachable. What do we do now?" 

“I thought he was around so I came to see if he's fine. Do we go to the police station?" She suggested but they quickly objected. “Not yet. Let's keep calling his number and ask around. Maybe we'll see someone who knows about his whereabouts.”

Donald thought about something Abigail had just said and paused to look at her before asking.

“You came to see if he was fine? Did he tell you that he was not feeling well?" 

"Were you not aware that he got beaten by the rain yesterday evening. I thought he may have caught a cold.” Abigail replied, staring at the faces of Donald and Glover who looked confused.

They didn't meet him in the hostel. He only called them to inform them that he was going home to his mother.

“No, we didn't know that the rain met him on the road. But is that the reason you came here?” Glover inquired and Abigail smiled a little before replying to them.

"I came to visit a friend and coursemate who didn't show up in class today. She lives around here so I decided to stop by and see Adolphus and you guys.” 

The friends exchanged glances and forced out a smile.

“Oh. That's so thoughtful of you.”

Abigail comes to school from home just like her brother. She was two years younger than the boys and was also in a different department.

Unlike her brother, Adolphus and the others who are in the Accounting department and in their final year in school, Abigail was in her third year. She was a computer science student and a very brilliant one at that.

She cares so much about Adolphus who never noticed her because of her family.

They treated him and his mother very badly and Adolphus didn't want to associate with any Graham again.

“Guys, come on. Let's go and look for Adolphus. I just hope he's fine." Abigail quickly reminded them and agreed with her, walking away together.

As they walked together, Abigail gave them the trending news. “Guys, have you heard about the party which Richmond is organizing in his home." 

“Even though I stood up to him the last time because of Adolphus, I still got an invite. I guess it's because of my brother. Moreover, they're birds of a feather.”

Turning to the guys, she inquired. "Were you guys also invited?”

"No, we're just hearing it for the first time.”

Donald and Glover would want to go to the party since they've heard about it. It wouldn't be fun to hear the gist of what happened at the place from someone else. However, they have no plans of showing up at the place, uninvited.

“You should come then. I don't think Richmond will care about who came or not. He may be a brat but the dude is good at hosting parties." 

"We're young and have to make the most out of our youth.” Abigail sounded really excited about the party.

Although she loved parties, that doesn't mean she forgot her education like her brother did. She just loves to have fun.

“I don't think Adolphus would want to go. So we may not be going there to avoid any embarrassment.”

Abigail thought about Donald's response and agreed with him. "You're right. Well, let's find Adolphus first before anything else.”

"Yeah.”

The trio kept walking aimlessly inside the campus, asking everyone if they had seen Adolphus.

They showed his pictures to anyone who cared to listen to them and all they got were negative responses.

After about an hour of searching everywhere for Adolphus, they went back to the hostel while Abigail went home. She also kept in touch with the boys so they'd let her know when he comes back.

Inside the abandoned Chemistry laboratory, Adolphus woke up around 6 pm with a heavy headache.

At first, his vision was blurry but gradually, he began to see things clearly.

He scrutinized his environment and the memories of the past few hours came back to him.

“Svetlana, that bitch." He cursed, lifting himself from the ground where he was dumped like garbage.

Since the place had been abandoned for sometime, it was very dusty and there was dirt everywhere.

His new black jeans trousers and white t-shirts were like he used them to sweep the place. They were covered in dirt and the white had turned brown.

Adolphus reached out and took his phone that was lying around. He tried to put it on but it didn't come up. The battery was dead and even though there was a power supply at the place, he did not have a charger.

He remembered he was going to meet with his grandmother by 7 pm and it was almost time.

Adolphus quickly reached for the door and saw it locked from the outside. He tried to kick it open several times all to no avail.

Although the windows were not locked he would not be able to climb out of it. The place was the last floor of a four storey building.

It was almost hopeless as no student was around. And it was already getting dark.

Adolphus decided not to give up. He went closer to the door and began to kick it with all the energy he had. Fortunately, he heard a voice outside.
