6. The Shocking Death

"What happened?"

Darren asked in confusion after seeing the hologram screen. With his confused expression, Darren was glued to all the written information on the holographic screen in front of his face.

"What is it, Mr. Darren?" Hellen asked in a panicked tone of voice.

Darren shook his head without taking his eyes off the holographic screen. His hand waved at Hellen as if to shoo away the gray robot.

"Go now. You obeyed my orders, right? Get out of this room!" Darren said sternly to Hellen.

Hellen actually didn't want to leave right away because Darren hadn't answered. But seeing Darren's instructions, Hellen was finally forced to leave the presence of her owner.

After Hellen left the room, Darren stepped back. Until his foot hit the edge of the bed so that his body fell into the bed just like that.

Darren's gaze was still glued to the holographic screen in front of his eyes.

[Hello, welcome, User!]

[You have successfully activated the Success Revenge system]

Darren frowned after hearing the echo of an unfamiliar voice. He briefly glanced around to find the source of the sound. But there was no one.

"Who's talking?" Darren asked.

[It's me, the system. You can't see me in physical form, Darren]

Darren's reaction was even more surprised when the voice answered his words.

"Wait, this is scary. I don't know who's talking... system? What kind of system?" asked Darren in confusion.

[I am a system that will activate whenever a human feels extremely desperate. I detected that your mentality level is only 46 percent. That means your mentality is already below normal."]

"A system that activates whenever a human is desperate?" Darren muttered incomprehensibly. Impossible. This is so not reality.

Darren was still on the edge of his seat when the holographic screen in front of him suddenly changed to display a wavy moving graphic resembling a heartbeat. The color was a deep red.

Beneath the box that framed the heart rate wave graph, there was a percentage and an inscription.

[DEPRESSION LEVEL: 93%]

Darren's jaw dropped as soon as he read that.

"I have depression?" Darren shook his head in disbelief. "No, you're lying. I feel fine."

[The system's calculations can't be wrong, Darren. You were already depressed during your prison life, then your mental state worsened after your release]

"Then, what is your function? I mean, explain it in more detail."

[The system will help you achieve success and take revenge for anything that hurts you. Each active system will adapt to each User's living conditions.

[While your living conditions will change drastically in two days, I will help you manage the company. Every day there will be missions assigned and you will have to do all of them to accumulate points.

[The points you collect will be used to acquire certain powers. They will also increase your level - and if your level gets higher, then your power in various aspects will increase.

[You'll be able to do anything to get revenge using your powers]

"Revenge?" muttered Darren.

Actually, Darren had not thought of that.

Now, Darren just remembered all the treatment given by the Johnson Family-including Cloe. Also the treatment from Troy who betrayed him by expelling him.

Darren suddenly felt the turmoil of his anger coming back. Remembering all that treatment made his pride trampled.

"If you help me, will there be reciprocity?" asked Darren.

[Of course not]

[You deserve your success. I'm helping you because you're going to have a hard time adjusting to your new life."]

"Right..." Darren muttered.

[Now check your Status Information]

"Huh?"

With a confused expression, Darren looked at the holographic screen in front of him. The screen suddenly switched automatically to a display like a cell phone homepage. Then a table appeared.

In that table, the personal data information that Darren had read from the beginning appeared again. However, there was something different about the caption (Subject to Change) next to the job information.

[If you officially become the CEO at the event two days later, then your job information will change]

[Your job is to make sure that your position as CEO is not replaced by anyone, Darren]

[It's my job to help you manage the company and reach the highest level of hierarchy in the Miller Family business. There are many enemies you have to face, including from your own family]

Darren was confused when he heard the last sentence of the system. But before he could ask any questions, he was startled by the sound of the door opening.

His gaze turned towards the door of the room. Darren frowned when he saw an unfamiliar man walk in with Mrs. Miller-his mother.

Not Nick the bodyguard leader, nor the hotel manager.

"Darren. How does this room look to you? Are you comfortable?" asked a smiling Mrs. Miller.

Darren was still a bit stunned at the sight of the man beside Mrs. Miller. Even so, he nodded politely when the man gave him a warm smile.

"Oh, let me introduce you, this is your brother, Darren. Do you remember his name? Anthonio," Mrs. Miller introduced enthusiastically.

"Darren, I'm glad to see you again," said the man named Anthonio.

Darren stood up and felt a little awkward welcoming Anthonio who was about to embrace him. Darren accepted with some reluctance.

Anthonio patted Darren's back formally as a fellow brother.

"I missed you so much after decades of your disappearance," Anthonio replied.

After their embrace loosened, Darren was still staring at Anthonio. At that moment Darren was surprised to see the system's holographic screen suddenly appear. Like a light scanning Anthonio's face.

Then on the holographic screen appeared Anthonio's bio.

[INFORMATION STATUS]

[NAME: LEONARD ANTHONIO MILLER]

[AGE: 29 YEARS OLD]

[STATUS: SECOND SON OF THE MILLER FAMILY, HEIR TO MILLER AIRWAYS AIRLINE COMPANY]

[OCCUPATION: FLIGHT DIRECTOR OF MILLER AIRWAYS AIR]

[HEALTH: 87% EXCELLENT]

[MENTALITY: 98% STRONG]

Wait. Can the system also detect who the people who met Darren are?

"I didn't expect us to finally meet again," Darren said, forced to be friendly. Even though he actually felt awkward.

"That's right. I hope you're enjoying being a member of the Miller Family. Gosh, the Miller Family is waiting for the heir apparent to arrive!" Anthonio said enthusiastically.

Darren gave a small smile.

"Darren, there are some corporate documents of Corpa Miller Group that you need to study before the official announcement of you becoming the Miller Family's heir apparent," Mrs. Miller explained.

Darren shifted his gaze. He saw four different colored document folders, inside each folder was a thick stack of papers. Seeing that made Darren grimace slightly.

"I have to study all those documents in two days?" Darren asked.

"Of course. There's no need to memorize everything. There are important documents, including the ones in this red folder," Mrs. Miller said as she held up the red folder.

There was no response from Darren.

After handing over all the documents to Darren, Mrs. Miller tapped him twice on the shoulder.

"Don't forget to get ready. We're going to the funeral home because the most important person to the Miller Family died," Mrs. Miller said.

Darren's brows furrowed. "Who was that person?"

Mrs. Miller then pulled out a rather shabby piece of printed photo paper. It was handed to Darren with a rather pitying expression.

"Your nanny's parents, Darren. They have been working for us as spies for the Johnson Family."

Darren was struck by lightning after hearing Mrs. Miller's words. He received the printed photo from Mrs. Miller's hand and watched with a wide-eyed stare.

"They died?" Darren asked.

"That's right. There seems to be indications of premeditated murder, who knows. My strongest guess is that it was the Johnson Family."

"Why?"

"They were killed a few hours after we asked them to come and hand over important information. We had no idea what they were going to give us."

Darren's heart sank. After all, his foster parents had taken great care of him for decades. Now they were killed with the suspected perpetrators being the Johnson Family-the family of his much-loved ex-girlfriend?

"Cloe knew they were my parents, but she let her family kill them?" Darren muttered emphatically.

"That's why we left you with your nanny's parents and made up as many scenarios as possible to get you into a relationship with Cloe, the Johnson's daughter. Unfortunately we found their bodies to be victims of a car accident."
