Alejo stood over the unconscious, sauce-covered heap that used to be El Martillo, his heart performing a frantic drum solo against his ribs. The silence of the Mercado de San Juan was heavy, thick with the smell of scorched chili and the collective disbelief of fifty witnesses.

"I... I think he’s just napping," Alejo whispered to the crowd, his voice cracking like a dry reed. "Very suddenly. In the middle of some cans. It’s a very efficient way to rest."

The two thugs who remained standing didn't look like they wanted to test the efficiency of Alejo’s 'napping' technique. They backed away, their eyes darting between their fallen boss and Alejo’s mismatched socks as if the footwear itself were a cursed artifact.

[DING! PASSIVE ITEM ACTIVATED: THE WALLFLOWER’S COLOGNE.] [EFFECT: AGGRO REDUCED. PERCEPTION OF HOST BY NON-ESSENTIAL NPCS DIMINISHED BY 70%.]

Suddenly, the intense, burning gaze of the crowd seemed to soften. People blinked, shaking their heads as if waking from a trance. A vendor went back to stacking his oranges. The grandmother with the chiles turned away, muttering something about the youth of today having strange hobbies. To them, Alejo was no longer a rhythmic god of war; he was just a skinny, awkward boy who happened to be standing near a mess.

"Oh, thank the heavens," Alejo exhaled, his shoulders slumping. "System, I take back ten percent of the mean things I thought about you. This invisibility thing is the only good thing that’s happened today."

[DON’T GET COMPLACENT, HOST. YOU STILL HAVE UNFINISHED BUSINESS. RECOVER THE GROCERY REVENUE OR FACE THE ‘WRATH OF TÍA’ DEBUFF (LEVEL: APOCALYPTIC).]

Alejo winced. The System was right. Tía’s wrath was far more terrifying than any street thug with a switchblade. He gingerly reached into El Martillo’s vest pocket, his fingers trembling as they brushed against the man’s sticky, tomato-stained shirt. He pulled out the wad of crumpled pesos—the grocery money—plus a little extra that had likely been 'borrowed' from other unfortunate souls.

"I’m just taking what’s mine! And maybe a little interest for the emotional trauma!" Alejo squeaked, stuffing the cash into his pockets.

He didn't wait for a response. He turned and bolted, his feet moving in a quick, rhythmic shuffle—a residual effect of the Salsa protocol—that carried him out of the market and into the winding, sun-drenched side streets of Mexico City.

He didn't stop until he reached a small, crumbling plaza three blocks away. He leaned against a stone fountain, gasping for air, the adrenaline finally ebbing away to leave a hollow, shaky fatigue in its wake.

"I’m alive," he muttered, checking his limbs. "I have all my fingers. My jaw is still attached. And I have the money."

"No! No more modules! I want a 'How to be a Normal Person' module," Alejo hissed at the blue screen. "I want to walk into a room without my hips trying to start a revolution!"

"You should listen to the machine, pibe. Your hips are the only part of you that seems to have a clue what they're doing."

The voice was like a cool blade—sharp, elegant, and dangerously precise.

Alejo nearly fell into the fountain. He spun around, his eyes wide. Standing near a graffiti-covered pillar was a woman who looked like she had stepped out of a high-fashion magazine and then decided to join a street gang just for the aesthetic. She had dark, piercing eyes, hair pulled back into a severe, professional bun, and a posture so perfect it made Alejo’s spine ache just looking at her.

She was leaning against the stone, arms crossed over a black athletic top, watching him with the clinical intensity of a surgeon.

"Who—who are you?" Alejo stammered, his social anxiety roaring back to life with a vengeance. "How long have you been there? And what machine? I don't have a machine. I have... a skin condition."

The woman stepped forward, her movements fluid and predatory. "I saw you in the market. I saw the way you moved. Or rather, the way your body moved while your brain was busy panicking like a lost puppy."

She stopped inches from him. She was slightly shorter than him, but she projected the energy of a giant. "I’m Lucía Fernández. And you, whatever your name is, are the most offensive talent I’ve ever seen."

"Offensive?" Alejo blinked. "I thought I did okay! I mean, that guy was huge! I spun him! I did the... the thing!"

"You did the 'thing' with the grace of a drunken flamingo," Lucía snapped, her Argentine accent sharpening her words. "Your weight distribution was a disaster. Your frame was non-existent. You were leading with your shoulders instead of your core. If that thug had any actual training, he would have snapped your rhythm in half before the first chorus."

Alejo felt a strange mix of offense and relief. "Look, Miss Fernández, I didn't ask for this. I don't even like dancing! I like sitting in dark rooms and avoiding eye contact with my own reflection!"

Lucía’s eyes narrowed. She reached out, her hand moving with a speed that Alejo’s system didn't even have time to flag. She grabbed his wrist, twisting it slightly.

"The System chose you, didn't it?" she whispered, her voice dropping to a low, dangerous hum.

Alejo froze. "You... you can see it?"

"I don't see the screens, but I know the 'Baile o Muere' signature when I see it," she said, releasing him with a look of pure disdain. "My family has been tied to the rhythm for generations. We are the guardians of the tempo. And to see it wasted on a... a boludo who doesn't even want to move? It’s an insult to the music."

[NEW CHARACTER DETECTED: LUCÍA FERNÁNDEZ (THE DISCIPLINED DIVA).] [STATUS: POTENTIAL TRAINER / RIVAL / BATTLE PARTNER.] [MISSION UPDATED: CONVINCE THE CRITIC. REWARD: UNLOCK TANGO TIER 1.]

"I don't want to convince her!" Alejo shouted at the air, causing a passing tourist to clutch their purse and walk faster. "I want to go home and eat Tía’s mole!"

Lucía ignored his outburst. She stepped into his personal space again, poking a firm finger into his chest. "Listen to me, flaco. You have the System, which means you’re a target. There are others out there. People who have been dancing their way through the underworld for years. They will find you. And when they do, they won't swing slow haymakers like that idiot in the market. They will move with precision. They will move with passion."

She leaned in closer, her scent—a mix of expensive perfume and sweat—overwhelming his senses. "If you don't learn to lead, you will be stepped on. Do you understand?"

Alejo swallowed hard. "Is there an option where I just... give the System back? Like a bad gift?"

Lucía smiled, but there was no warmth in it. It was the smile of a cat that had found a particularly interesting mouse. "The music only stops when you’re dead, Alejandro. So, you have a choice. You can be a clumsy amateur who dies on the first beat, or you can let me turn you into a weapon."

[WARNING: DANGER LEVEL INCREASING.] [LUCÍA FERNÁNDEZ HAS INITIATED A ‘EVALUATION DANCE’.] [CURRENT TRACK: “POR UNA CABEZA” – CARLOS GARDEL.]

"Wait, no! Not the Tango!" Alejo cried out as the haunting, melancholic violins began to swell in his ears. "I don't know the steps! I’m a Salsa guy! Well, a reluctant Salsa guy!"

Lucía grabbed his hand and placed her other hand firmly on his shoulder, locking him into a frame that felt like iron. "Then you’d better learn fast, pibe. Step. Step. Side. Together. Don't you dare trip, or I’ll break your toes myself."

As the first heavy beat of the tango dropped, Alejo felt the System override his legs once more. But this time, it wasn't just the System. It was Lucía. And she was a much harsher master.
