Chapter 005

The waiter nodded and hurried to go do her bidding. In no time, their whole table was filled with exotic and expensive dishes, as Cassandra had made sure to order the most expensive dishes on the menu.

The Almas Caviar on Mother-of-Pearl Spoons, Aged Iberico ham (36 months) paired with century-aged balsamic vinegar pearls, served with 24k gold-topped focaccia, Bluefin Tuna Toro Tartare with Iranian Saffron and White Truffles, A5 Kobe Wagyu Gold Steak, Stuffed Lobster with Sea Urchin and Oscietra Caviar, Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru 1978, The Macallan Fine & Rare Collection 1926...

The whole meal cost more than one million and Cassandra didn't hesitate in ordering them, after all, this was a rare opportunity, and they weren’t going to waste it.

Their food was arrayed in a buffet manner, and the trio enjoyed their dish to their satisfaction,

As they finished the meal and prepared themselves to leave, the door to their room opened and a gentleman wearing an expensive suit entered, smiling widely,

“Ms Cassandra, Mr Harold, it's a pleasure and an honour to have you here. Hope the meal was to your satisfaction?”

The man was no other than Nicholas Hunt, the owner of the prestigious Golden Leaf Restaurant.

Cassandra's chin was held high as she squared her shoulders and gazed at him.

She had never thought Nicholas Hunt would come to meet them, and she felt giddy with all the attention that he was paying to them.

With a recent turn of events, she viewed herself as being in the same class as him and so she gazed directly at him, flung her wavy hair, and waved her fingers before she responded haughtily,

“It didn't quite meet my expectations, I wouldn't want to call it sub-par, but I believe you guys can do better, and trust me, I'll be back to reevaluate your meals and service”

Nicholas’ eyebrows scrunched but he smiled at her and nodded happily,

“We sure would love to host you some other time and give you the best treatment. Would be looking forward to hosting you and Mayor Day,”

At the mention of Richard's name, Cassandra's eyes darkened and she clenched her fist, but Nicholas didn't take note as he went on,

“Please do pass my message to him, we would love to host you both in the near future. Please send my warmest regards"

Jutting her chin forward with a sneer on her face, Cassie glanced over at Nicholas and nearly snapped,

"Richard Day is currently being detained for his crimes of bribery, corruption, and abuse of power”

She huffed, cocking her head to the side.

As Nicholas processed the words, he gaped at her with bulging eyes, he was frozen at his spot, speechless as he gaped at her,

Trying to string words together, his eyebrows creased as his eyes darted amongst the three of them before resting on Cassandra once more,

“H-how? H-how’s that possible?"

Cassandra shrugged casually, examining her painted fingernails,

"Turns out he isn't a saint, but a corrupt fool”

Nicholas shook his head in disbelief and replied outrightly, his tone affirmative,

“That's not possible! Mayor Richard Day isn't corrupt! I can swear on my life and that of my daughter's!”

Cassandra sneered at him, crossing her arms she cocked her head,

“Well, that's the truth. He's nothing but a corrupt person who has been deceiving us all”

Nicholas smirked, and shook his head,

“That man you speak of in such a manner isn't capable of bribery or corruption, and I say that categorically"

Cassandra curled her lips, as she jutted her chin, gazing at him

"How are you so sure?!"

“Because Mayor Day saved the life of my daughter, and yet didn't collect a dime from me!"

He spoke up categorically, as he glared at them.

Nicholas's young daughter had fallen gravely ill weeks ago, with mysterious swelling and inability to retain food or fluids.

Despite his wealth and efforts, no hospital could help. When renowned Dr. Eric Carr failed to diagnose her condition and abandoned the case, Nicholas turned to Richard after a chance meeting.

Richard used herbal remedies, and within days, the girl was fully healed.

In gratitude, Nicholas offered Richard 90% of his company's shares, but Richard declined.

However, Cassie sneered at him, hissing loudly.

"Well, the person you defend so well is nothing but corrupt, a corrupt pest with no restrictions, and his arrest is a warning to all! Nobody is above the law, it's fair justice!”

Having said her piece, Cassandra began walking towards the exit, Harold and Andrew tagging behind still glaring at her.

All of a sudden, the exit was guarded by Nicholas' bodyguards who stared at them like they were bugs they could crush soon,

Startled Cassie glared at them before she swiftly turned back to glare at Nicholas,

“What's the meaning of this?!"

Nicholas gave her a cold look, sneering at her, he straightened himself and smirked,

“Since you’ve caused considerable trouble by implicating Mayor Richard Day—someone who has done immense good for this city and my family personally—the Golden Leaf will no longer be welcoming you. Additionally, I must insist that you pay for the meal you just enjoyed.

It's no longer free for you!

Cassandra froze, disbelief flashing across her face. Excuse me?

Harolds face darkened. As a powerful figure, he rarely encountered outright defiance. Nicholas, I dont think you understand who youre speaking to.

Nicholas met Harolds glare without flinching. Oh, Im fully aware. But I suggest you consider who I am and the forces behind this establishment before making any rash statements.

Andrew, who had remained silent, finally stepped forward, his usually composed expression now slightly strained. Coming from one of the most prominent families in the capital, he rarely found himself in situations where his status held no sway.

Mr. Hunt,” Andrew began carefully, his tone measured and polite. Surely this isnt necessary. We respect the prestige of your establishment and understand its importance to the community. Lets not escalate this further.

Nicholass gaze shifted to Andrew, a faint smirk playing on his lips. Mr. Andrew, your reputation precedes you. I have great respect for your family. However, I must assure you that even they would tread lightly around those backing the Golden Leaf.

(Three Years Later) "Get these files and give them to the right department," Richard ordered, passing a file to a man standing before him. "Yes sir," The man nodded and took the files from Richard. "Do you need anything?" Richard finally raised his head from what he was doing to look at the man who was still standing. "Sir, I need you to approve my leave so I can take care of my wife who's about to give birth," The man said slowly, handing over a matter to Richard. "Alright, it's approved," Richard nodded and took the letter from the man. "Thank you, sir," The man beamed happily and quickly walked out of the office. Richard sighed and sat back on the chair after the man was out. It had been three years since everything. Andrew, Cassandra, and Harold were tried and thrown into prison. Justus, Aiden, Clinton, and Robin were also thrown into prison for fraud. The citizens of Dalton City demanded that Richard come back as the Mayor of the city. After much pleas and persuasion, h

Walking out of the office, the three walked out of the mayoral office only to be greeted by about five men who were in uniforms. Seeing the men, Andrew and Harold froze and it was as though their eyes would pop out of their sockets as they stared at the men. Slowly, they began to move back as though they had seen a ghost. "Father, Andrew, what the heck is wrong with both of you?" Cassandra frowned and stopped the two who were retreating slowly. "You should also go back; they are most probably here to arrest us," Harlod whispered to Cassandra, whose eyes flashed with panic. This must be Richard's fault. They were sure he was the one who invited them over. Apart from him, no one dared to make such a big move. Also, they were not expecting it. "Please stop moving back; we are going to assume you want to run away, and we would be forced to use force on you?" One of the men stepped forward, stating in a loud, cold voice, making the three stop in their tracks. The people before them

"What the heck is that bastard doing?" Andrew slapped the table angrily standing up from where he was.Somehow, some reporters had managed to get to the scene where Richard was arresting Aiden. And in the end, the citizens were praising Richard for arresting the miscreants. Then a torrent of curses was sent towards Andrew and it was said he knew nothing but to say things that were not true. This annoyed Andrew, but there was nothing he could do about it."You saw why I said we can't let him live," Cassandra, who had been silent all along, broke the silence, and the two couldn't help but nod.She was right, there was no way they would allow Richard to live. He was just too damn dangerous."So do you still think we should take the killing seriously, or we should continue to look at him," Cassandra stared at the two men and inquired."We should get rid of him for good this time, else, he won't spare us," Harold shook his head.He knew if Richard was to know they wanted to kill him, he w

"If that's the case, why don't you just let us search the house?" One of the policemen frowned and spoke."If you were to search the house, you would also be wasting your time as you wouldn't be able to find them either," Alice shook her head, wondering if this set of people were dumb."Seems like you don't believe it?" Richard smirked, staring at the police officers."Since that's the case, then go and search the house," Richard continued, waving his hands allowing them to go search the house."You can go," Vivienne nodded and allowed the men to go into the house to search.Though she trusted Richard, her men seemed to have doubts. So she had no other choice but to let them clear their doubts by going into the house."But how did you know all of these?" Vivienne asked, staring at Richard."That's because Clinton is not an ordinary Criminal," Richard answered with a smile. He knew how Clinton's mind worked. So he was very sure he was still in the house."Look at his style. He knows

"Fuck!" Aiden, who was typing with all of his might, suddenly cursed. "Who the heck is playing with me?" He yelled, banging the table. He had been trying to hack into the place, but for some reason, he was not able to do it. At some point, the other person seemed to have given up and left. But he didn't and continued to fight with the other party. After a while, he realized the other party didn't even take him seriously at all and this made him annoyed. "What's wrong?" Clinton, who had been packing, rushed into the room and asked what was wrong. "You won't believe this guy is playing with me?" Aiden spoke, fury could be felt in his voice. "What do you mean by that?" Clinton asked slowly, the expression on his face changed. "He's not taking me seriously at all. He's not even trying to defend the place. More like he's just forcing me, wanting me to make mistakes," Hearing this, Clinton's eyes opened wide. While he was at the Mayoral office, they didn't have anyone with that sk

Harold, who had been waiting for Andrew to return, stared at him, waiting for the news."Well, it's just that our team was able to block Aiden from entering and the money is still intact," Andrew laughed, sitting on the sofa."That's good news," Harold nodded, agreeing almost Instantly. Now that they have been able to block Aiden. All that remained was to attack Richard right?"Richard has not yet taken the bait, has he?" Harold asked a frown emerging on his face."You don't need to worry about that, I'm sure he's still pretending. We still have a lot of time. All we have to do is pretend the money is still there." "And if he doesn't take the money, we can still pin the blame on him, it would still be the same outcome anyways,""Good, good," Harold agreed, nodding happily. He was very satisfied with the way Andrew acted. He was sure that th
