Max listened without interrupting as Gina and Tianna described everything they knew about the A.I. Army’s base.

Neither of them tried to hide the bitterness in their voices.

Every memory they shared carried anger, humiliation, and resentment.

They spoke about being dragged around in chains, forced to stand in front of the Reapers as living shields whenever danger approached. To the machines, they hadn’t been prisoners or even workers.

They had been disposable.

The three survivors exchanged looks before explaining what had actually happened.Corin spoke first.“We actually saw him, Max. The cloaked figure was inside one of the ruined buildings. He had luggage around him, so we contacted you immediately about it. We’re sure that it was the Gene Trader… But as soon as we stepped into that area, the mutants started appearing out of nowhere.”Gabby quickly added, “It wasn’t random. I’m sure it was the moment we crossed into what felt like his territory that they came at us. Dozens of them at first, but they kept appearing whenever we tried getting closer to the cloaked figure. We couldn’t even get close to him.”Dylan shook his head, clearly frustrated by what had happened.“We thought we could approach, but it was like the place itself was guarded. Just like what Gabby said, every time we tried to move forward, more mutants showed up…”Russel continued the explanation. “So we started moving away instead. We realized it a bit too late… For some

A few more mutants broke away from the larger group and charged toward them.Their swollen muscles bounced beneath their pale skin as they rushed forward with frightening excitement, almost as if the sight of living humans had triggered some deep instinct inside them. Max still had no idea why they were so aggressive or what they actually wanted. Were they trying to kill them? Did they want to eat them? He couldn’t say for certain. For now, it didn’t matter.Whatever these creatures were, they were attacking his people, and that made them enemies.Atom’s two devastating shots had already reduced their numbers considerably. If Max and the others kept their formation, they should be able to finish the remaining mutants.Max raised both revolvers, one in each hand, and moved forward. His aim wasn’t nearly as accurate as Xander’s, so he had to compensate by getting closer. At short range, missing was much harder. He squeezed both triggers in quick succession.Bang! Bang! Bang! One mutant

After giving Farrah and Alfie their test, Max turned away and started walking. He didn’t run. Conserving his energy was important, especially since the industrial zone was still hours away. If another enemy appeared along the way, arriving exhausted could put him in a dangerous position. He needed to stay in good condition. During his fight with the War Tyrant, he had already spent 140 Spirit Points, which meant he wouldn’t be able to rely on Spirit Pulse again for some time.“Right… I should check it now…” Max muttered as he glanced around.Atom walked beside him, its optics constantly scanning the surroundings for anything unusual.“Stay on guard. If anything moves, you react first.” Max spoke quietly. The Reaper’s eyes briefly brightened as it acknowledged the command. As they continued along the ruined road, Max opened his system interface. His inventory appeared before him, and he quickly searched through the newest additions until he found what he was looking for.“Ahhh… It’s he

Max blinked when he saw the notification. He had expected the system to identify the machine as another Field Tyrant, so the different name caught him off guard. It wasn’t a Field Tyrant at all.The system had classified it as a War Tyrant, and although Max didn’t have enough information to be certain, he had a feeling that this version was considerably stronger.’I guess I’m lucky its joints were already damaged.’ He mused. That wasn’t the only thing that made this enemy special. The War Tyrant had dropped something Max had never received from the previous Field Tyrants.A Survivor Medal.’A Survivor Medal just like that… This is just so perfect.’Max clenched his fist in excitement. He had just received confirmation that the Gene Trader had been found, and now he had another Survivor Medal to use when he met him.If the medal could be exchanged for something valuable, having an extra one could make a huge difference. But the system still had more to offer.Another familiar notificat

“What the heck?”Farrah narrowed her eyes as the strange figure finally came into view.At first, she assumed he couldn’t be a Foreign Survivor like her and Alfie. His equipment looked completely different from the rough, practical Tier-1 Survivor Gear they had received when they were brought into this world.Farrah still remembered her own outfit clearly. She wore a simple shirt beneath a dark jacket, durable pants with six pockets, sturdy boots, and a belt fitted with several basic pouches. It wasn’t fashionable, but it was comfortable and practical enough for surviving in the Apocalypse.Alfie’s equipment was almost identical. Every Foreign Survivor she had encountered wore the same type of clothing. The material was surprisingly durable and resistant to scratches, almost as if some kind of invisible enchantment had been placed on it.But the man standing before them was different. His equipment was clearly a much better version of what Farrah and Alfie had been given. His jacket l

Ark-62 looked peaceful from the outside, but the shelter was barely holding together. It had not been long since the Mech Siege had nearly destroyed the entire place. The previous leaders had died during the fighting, and with them disappeared the last of Ark-62’s high-level Augmented Humans. What remained was a struggling community of thirty-two survivors, damaged walls, dwindling supplies, and the faint hope that the A.I. Army would simply overlook them.Farrah woke early every morning during the ten-day period leading up to the Global Event. Her responsibilities were simple. She spent several hours each day patrolling a specific section of the shelter, mainly the garden, the animal pens, and the well.Ark-62 still had some food, but their supplies were far from comfortable. A small garden occupied part of the courtyard, and although the soil had turned dark from the effects of the Apocalypse, it remained fertile enough to grow a few vegetables. That garden had to be protected.Farr
