Chapter 1 Run or Die
last update2025-12-09 15:25:16

"Shit… I'm dead."

A frail, panting figure darted down a narrow alley, his sneakers pounding against the cracked pavement, breath ragged and shallow. Blood stained his shirt where pain pulsed from his side, but he couldn't stop. Behind him, five rough-looking students gave chase, their shouts echoing through the brick-lined corridor.

All of these.... Over something stupid. But these guys weren't just angry, they were out for blood.

"Don't let him escape!" one of them barked, wiping crimson from his split lip. "He's gonna pay for what he just did!"

Henry's mind raced even faster than his legs. 'Why did I do it?' he thought bitterly. 'That one hit just gave me a death sentence.'

But he had no choice. It was either fight back or get humiliated again. And now, it was run or die.

Henry gritted his teeth as he tore through the winding alleyways, the crumbling buildings blurring around him. The pain in his stomach was nearly blinding, but he kept going.

A laugh echoed behind him, sharp and cruel. "You think you can lay a hand on Jack and walk away? You're dead meat, freak!"

Henry's heart froze as he risked a glance back.

One of them had stopped. He was reaching into his bag and then, he pulled out a gun

'Where did it all go wrong?' Henry thought as his eyes caught the end of the alley just meters ahead. Beyond it, the open street.

He clenched his jaw and pushed harder, ignoring the scream of pain in his side.

''Only minutes ago, I was laughing with Nuela and now I'm being chased by bullies''

Minutes Earlier

*Ding!*

The final bell rang, and the school corridors flooded with voices, lockers clanging open and shut.

Henry stood at his locker, smiling faintly. His shoulders relaxed for the first time that day.

"Thanks for yesterday," he said.

Nuela leaned against the locker next to his, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear. Her lips curled into a warm, teasing smile. "I should be the one thanking you, Bloody Assassin," she said, nudging him playfully. "That VR game was out of this world!, It felt more real than real life."

Henry stiffened slightly, glancing around the hallway. No one seemed to be listening.

He leaned closer. "Hey… don't say that name out loud."

She blinked. "Bloody Assassin?"

"Yeah," he said, eyes darting around. "No one can know. I've taken out too many top-tier players. Wrecked thousands of dollars in gear. Some of those guys… they don't play games when it comes to revenge."

"You're serious?"

"I wish I wasn't."

Nuela paused, taking in the weight in his tone. Her playful smile softened into something more tender.

"Then I won't tell anyone," she said. "I promise. Your secret's safe with me.

Just down the hall, a group of students passed by, voices low but animated.

"I swear," one said, "if I could get to know Bloody Assassin's true identity, I'd give him every credit I have for a tutorial session."

"Legend status," another whispered. "That guy is untouchable."

Henry and Nuela both heard it.

She leaned closer with a grin. "I guess I'm lucky."

They both chuckled and then Nuela gripped Henry's arms. She looked down, then back up.

"Henry…" Her voice dropped. "I don't want to ruin things, but... I've been meaning to tell you something."

Henry gulped as his heart skipped a beat.

"Henry… I know this might sound sudden but... I like you. A lot. I don't just want to be your gaming partner. I want to be your girlfriend." She whispered as she leaned closer and tightened her grip around his arms.

Henry froze, he also had this in mind but he was scared it's might ruin there friendship.

*CRASH!*

The hallway doors burst open and approaching steps like marching army's could be heard.

Henry turned, heart plummeting.

'The bullies'

The same ones who had made his school life hell. The ones who treated his frail frame like a punching bag. The ones who beat him for sport. Now they were here, and they had seen him.

One of them smirked. "Hey Jack," he sneered, loud enough for the whole hallway. "Looks like your girl's got a thing for your punching bag."

Nuela's face twisted in disgust. "Don't ever call me your anything, you pack of brainless cavemen. I'm in love with Henry. Get it?"

The group froze for a beat, then all eyes shifted to Henry. But he was no longer standing there.

He was gone, already running from the bullies.

"Henry!" Nuela screamed as the bullies took off after him, their footsteps loud enough to make students give way for them.

  • Chapter 189 Can't Let Go

The moment Henry and Vorden stepped into the first training ground, the lively atmosphere changed so suddenly that it almost felt unnatural. Henry instinctively slowed his pace after noticing the unusual silence surrounding them. He glanced from one side of the arena to the other, only to find countless students staring in their direction with expressions ranging from curiosity to annoyance. Feeling the strange pressure of so many gazes focused on him at once, he leaned slightly toward Vorden before whispering, "Shit... why is everyone looking at us?" His voice remained calm, but even he couldn't hide his growing confusion.Vorden awkwardly rubbed the back of his neck while scanning the training ground for anything that might explain the strange reaction. Every student seemed to be watching them as though they had walked into somewhere forbidden, yet neither of them remembered breaking any rules since entering the academy. "I honestly don't know," he admitted quietly. "But all these

"Why did they leave?" Henry asked, unable to shake the question from his mind. Emma, Silver, and even Jaxon had suddenly disappeared without saying a word. The entire situation felt strange, especially since they had all entered the library together only a short while earlier.Vorden scratched the side of his cheek while thinking carefully about how to answer. Truthfully, he wasn't completely certain either, but based on everything he had witnessed inside the library, he believed he had a fairly good idea of what had happened."I don't really know for sure," Vorden admitted honestly. "But I think the girls are crushing on you. The moment Lucy hugged you... and then kissed you... they looked jealous before walking away."Henry blinked in complete disbelief."Crushing on me?"The words sounded so absurd that he couldn't immediately process them. He slowed his pace slightly while replaying everything that had happened since arriving at the academy. Emma had certainly acted differently la

  • Chapter 187 Let Her Know

"What's the good news, Vorden?" Henry asked curiously, folding his arms across his chest while keeping his voice low enough not to disturb the peaceful silence of the library. Judging by the excitement shining in Vorden's eyes, this wasn't something ordinary. It was the kind of expression Vorden only wore whenever he stumbled upon a secret or discovered information that could change everything they thought they knew.Vorden opened his mouth with an eager smile, clearly unable to contain himself any longer. "Well, you see..." he began enthusiastically, leaning closer so nobody else would overhear the conversation. Before another word could leave his mouth, however, a calm feminine voice suddenly whispered directly into his ear."Are you two here to read... or here to gossip?""Ah!" Vorden yelped in surprise, nearly jumping several steps backward. Every hair on his body stood upright as he spun around so quickly that he almost lost his balance. His eyes darted wildly around the nearby b

  • Chapter 186 The Good News

Just as the girl called Henry's name, everyone in the library froze in surprise. Jaxon, Emma, Silver, and Vorden all turned toward the young woman standing near one of the bookshelves. Henry himself blinked twice before recognition filled his face. Although several weeks had passed since they had last met, her appearance had barely changed. The familiar smile, the bright eyes, and the confident way she stood immediately brought back memories from the village he had once helped save."Lucy," Henry muttered with a wide smile spreading across his face. Seeing her here was the last thing he had expected. Lucy was the daughter of the village chief, the same village Henry had protected from the slime invasion during the early days of his journey. He had assumed they would never meet again after leaving the village, especially since they had been assigned to different Military Academy bases. Fate, however, clearly had other plans for them. The moment Lucy confirmed it was truly Henry standin

  • Chapter 185 Third Military Academy Library

"Good morning, Sir Louis," the guard standing beside the academy gate greeted respectfully the moment the group approached. He immediately straightened his posture before offering a crisp salute. His armor gleamed beneath the morning sunlight, and his expression carried both discipline and admiration. It was obvious from the confidence in his voice that he already knew exactly who Louis was long before the instructors reached the entrance."How are you doing, Issac?" Louis asked with a warm smile that surprised most of the students. His tone sounded less like an instructor speaking to a subordinate and more like an old mentor checking on someone he genuinely cared about. Tyler and Gareth exchanged knowing smiles, clearly familiar with the relationship between the two men."I'm doing well, sir," Issac replied proudly before stepping aside and opening the academy gate completely. "Please go right in. Most of the instructors arrived a few minutes before you did, so they're probably alrea

  • Chapter 184 Daemon Confirmation

The morning passed peacefully as the group gathered inside the inn's restaurant for breakfast. Warm meals had already been prepared by the workers before sunrise, filling the dining hall with the comforting aroma of fresh bread, roasted meat, and hot soup. After everything they had endured during the previous day, the simple meal felt almost luxurious. None of the students complained as they quietly enjoyed their food, each one recovering both physically and mentally from the exhausting journey through the cursed forest. Even Jaxon, who usually couldn't stop talking, focused entirely on eating, proving just how hungry he truly was.Louis finished the last bite of his breakfast before setting his spoon neatly on the table. His eyes slowly moved across the room, making sure every student had eaten properly before they continued traveling. Satisfied that everyone looked far more energetic than the previous night, he stood up from his chair and nodded toward Tyler and Gareth. The two inst
