Roxanne jingled the tiny bell on the dinner table, alerting Robert Jackson, her husband, of her impatience for him to bring the food.

Robert appeared with a tray in hand, dressed in a maids gown, solely chosen for him by his wife Roxanne,

“What took you so long?.” She scowled at him.

Robert muttered an apology as he dished out food for Roxanne and her two haughty friends.

Angela, one of Roxanne's friends with red hair, covered her mouth as she laughed to despise Robert's outfit.

“Oh Roxanne, you always know how to stir me up really well, I can't believe you gave him a maid's clothes to put on.”

They all laughed heartily as Robert finished serving, he stood to await more orders.

This has been his lot since the day he married Roxanne Murillo, last daughter of the Murillo family amongst five children.

Their marriage has gone for five years now, and Roxanne only looks at Robert with scorn, and as the years went by, her hatred for him only grew, he was an embarrassment to her and her family, as she could have married someone with a higher class, but she didn't. So she put him to work instead.

Roxanne was not satisfied with the house chores that Robert did, so she put him as a dispatch rider for her pizza place.

Everyday, after taking care of sweeping, washing, and all manners of house chores, Robert would make for the restaurant to begin his work as a delivery guy.

The stipends he made were still sent to Roxanne's personal account.

With the load of work, Robert was bound to return home to make lunch, and dinner in between for Roxanne and her mother.

On one occasion he was late due to workload at the pizza place, he received not only a scolding, but a hot slap on both cheeks.

Five years after being married, he grew accustomed to the maltreatment of Roxanne and her mother. The painful part was his growing affection for Roxanne.

Originally, Robert Jackson came from a very influential home, the family behind Zenco enterprise, before he got married to Roxanne, he invested almost all of his inheritance in buying an oil field, which was speculated to generate oil that would last more than three centuries.

The rest of his inheritance he invested in a company that buys out other companies on the brink of breakdown

Contrary to what he expected, the fields generated nothing, and the workers he hired deserted him after a while. He was left penniless, as a result of his drastic decision, the family came together and expelled him completely from the family's genealogy.

Everyone he knew departed him, even those he called his closest friends. To survive, he became the son-in-law to the Murillo family.

“Hmmm,” Angela reacted to the taste of the food.

“This is so good, Roxanne, you have to tell Robert to come make me some of this in my house.”

“Of course he will come cook for you, he is totally useless to me after all, would you like to know the secret behind his great cooking?” Roxanne asked her girls.

They all nodded eagerly.

“I tell him to dress the part for whatever work he is doing, hence the maid in chef's clothing.”

Angela clapped her hands, multiple times,

“Wow, I am surprised, then he must dress this way when cooking in my house, so the charm can also work.”

They all giggled before Roxanne fell quiet, her face hinting at sudden sadness, she picked at her food.

“Girls, I am worried, my company is experiencing a downfall, if I don't get a huge investment soon, I'll be forced to sell it out, leaving me to just the pizza place.”

Roxanne's food production company was built by her father, Daniel Murillo, he named it after his only child., and passed it down to her after

Angela, and Bridget the other friend rubbed Roxanne's hand to give comfort.

“That is actually a lot of money Roxanne, no one would just invest in your company out of the blues.”

Roxanne opened her mouth to answer, then she noticed Robert standing close by, he was obviously listening to their conversation.

“Don’t you have toilets to wash?,” she shouted at him.

“Get going before I set my anger on you.”

Robert bowed before leaving, as was expected of him to do anytime he leaves her presence.

He went straight for the cleaning supplies in the storage room, the only thing he didn't get were gloves.

He had been forbidden to use gloves when washing her toilet, Roxanne complained that with gloves on it was never neat.

As he opened the toilet door in her room, his phone buzzed, he brought it out, and read through, his eyes widening as he reached the end of the message.

The toilet equipment dropped on the ground, breaking the bleach bottle, including the bucket.

It turned out that one of the men he hired to work the drill on the oil field went to take a look again, the man just got a hunch to work on the machine again, surprisingly oil was found. The man quickly sent Robert the message of his latest discovery.

 Robert gave a loud shout.

“Yes, yes, I am rich. Woooooh!”

With the oil from that field he can never get broke even when he dies.

Robert could not contain his excitement as he continued shouting at the top of his voice doing a dance.

The noise attracted Roxanne, she made her way to the room, one look at Robert dancing and the spilled bleach on the floor, she concluded that Robert was mad.

“What is the meaning of this?Have you lost it already?”

Robert let his excitement get the better of him.

“I am rich, you don't have to worry about selling out your company. I'll invest for you my dear wife.”

Roberts happiness only intensified Roxanne's anger,

“You are really mad, I'll have to call the police to come lock you up.”

Immediately, Robert did the one thing he had never dared to do since he married Roxanne, he grabbed her in his hands, and did a spin.

Several months later the penthouse had the specific quality of a home that had discovered its true form. Not the version before all that. The version with all the things and that had come through it and was bigger for the coming through. Toy in corners. A board book on the coffee table. There was a second small chair, which had been set down next to the first chair. A carry arrangement at the door next to Clara's coat.Robert was in the living room on the floor.Clara was standing there next to him, constructing something out of blocks. The particular bold design of a person who had determined that these blocks would be a component of something, and who was negotiating with the physical laws whether or not that could be done.Pius was lying on the mat next to her. He was four months old, and he was beginning to have opinions about the world. He observed Clara's building of blocks like a note taker.Robert glanced at both of them. There was no thought of anything around him in his mind

Phillip was arrested on Tuesday morning. He was in his lawyer's office when the FBI agents knocked there. Not dramatically. Two agents. A formal document. The quality of procedure used in an arrest, a carefully-prepared rather than suddenly-arranged arrest. His lawyer was with him all the time.Phillip glanced over the document. He read it. He handed it back.He looked at his lawyer. His lawyer looked at him with the look of one who knew this was going to happen, and had been preparing for it, and he was here when it was supposed to happen. His lawyer said, "All right?"Yes," Phillip said.He stood. He went along with the agents. The charges were specific and comprehensive. Conspiracy. Financial crimes linked to the initial Zenco case which had been completely uncovered during the disclosure. Obstruction related to the Leonard communication and what that communication had stimulated. The two fatalities overseas that Carver had described in his own cooperation agreement, and that the f

Patricia's piece was aired on a Friday morning. Not in any outlet. Patricia had set up simultaneous publishing on three big platforms. Such a coordinated release that was able to communicate the story and wasn't looking for attention but managing it. Responding to a story which had already been built around them by giving them the complete real story before any more construction was added.Robert read it at his desk at six AM.He read it, just as he read her other piece. Thoroughly and at a relaxed pace. He read what she had written about the fake document and where it came from, and what the federal investigation had found regarding the origin of the fake document. He read her letter on Roxanne's history, and the medical history and his particular sequence which made her implication in the fabrication impossible. He read what she had written about the DNA result and the documentation and the chain of custody that made the result unchallengeable. He read the portion of Maxime. It was

DNA results came back on Thursday morning.Robert was in the kitchen island when the secure message was received from the laboratory. A document attached. He briefly read the notification. Then he opened it.He read it.He placed the phone face down on the island. He sat still. He looked at the counter in front of him. On the coffee machine. The fruit bowl. The things of everyday life, the things they saw every morning, ordinary, and the things they did every day.So, it is what he had known. Pius Robert Jackson. It was clear, specific and unambiguous and backed by federal laboratory certification. His son. Without a doubt and without question. He took up the phone. He read it again. He put it down.He placed both hands on the island. He looked at them. There was something that he didn't expect to happen. He was not surprised with the outcome. He knew what the answer was going to be. He had assured Patricia Osei that the outcome would be what it is. He had been sitting with Roxanne in

Robert's worst board meeting since the Victoria Castellano period was the meeting on Monday. He was at the top of the table and was studying the faces round him and reading all of them, as he had been reading the rooms for years.Angela Voss was a little sad and somewhat irritated. When Robert was called on Sunday, it was Saturday evening and she had told him two things. The Board's support of him. That the board had to get him to stabilize the Zenco's position in the week or the stabilizing would be done without him. Both statements had been made in the same voice. Not as a threat and not as a comfort. Simply as fact.Bloom was gazing at the table. He had been gazing at the table for twelve minutes.Stanton was observing Robert, as if he had been in business for thirty-five years and was making a decision. There were three other board members who remained in the seats they were in all along. Patricia Osei came to the penthouse at two PM.She came alone. No photographer. No recording assistant. The only thing different here was herself and the small recorder she'd set on the kitchen island the same way she had on Robert's desk eighteen months ago, when she'd written the profile that had altered the public perception of him.She looked at Robert and Roxanne across the island. She took a look at them, as she had taken a look at Robert when he was working alone in his office. Not assessing. Reading. The particular attribute of a journalist who knew that the best information in an interview was before the end of the tape.“Well, before we start we need to know a few things," she said. "Off the record."“Go ahead," Robert said.“What you are about to do,” she said. “You’re going to be recorded today. About the test.” She gave both of them a glance. “I want to know you understand that, you don't owe this to anyone.”Roxanne looked at her.“The thing is, we know,” Roxanne said. “
