However, there was a big problem. The girl was rated Legendary, and Shaun couldn't see any of her information besides her name and age. When he saw her age, he amended his earlier statement. Aria was no girl. She was the same age as him in his previous life, which threw him a bit off guard. He originally assumed she was a high school student.

Making plans to corner her before he left, he waited for the right moment to strike. In the meantime, he made sure to observe her to gather intel on how to deal with her. Soon the event ended, which meant it was time for the nobles to go home. As everyone started moving, he rushed over to her while her back was to him. Covering her mouth with a hand and using his other arm to wrap around her, he dragged her struggling form away.

The Invisibility Ring was really useful in this case. It could hide whoever wore it and whatever the user touched. That's why no one seemed to notice her disappearing, even though she was in the middle of the crowd. Well, not exactly in the middle of the crowd. If he had done that, he would have definitely sent the whole place into chaos. Seeing someone disappear right in front of them would be cause for alarm.

Shaun was lucky that she seemed to be shy and hid in the corner away from everyone else. She also didn't seem to be close to anyone, which meant no one would notice she was missing. Also, he wasn't worried about her being able to fight him off. He was fairly certain that despite being a hero and rated Legendary, she wouldn't be able to overpower him.

Based on everything he had observed about her outside the information, or rather lack of information, from the system, she didn't possess any fighting skills. She didn't appear to have even learned self defense. Wherever she came from, she must have decided it wasn't worth learning or never had the opportunity to. In his past life, he was the same.

Once he was far away from everyone, he stopped and whispered in her ear, "Don't scream. I just want to talk."

Aria shook in his grasp, and he debated whether he should trust that she would listen to him. Since he had already kidnapped her, he couldn't afford to let her talk to anyone until she was on his side. The thought of killing her crossed his mind. His past self would have balked at the idea. Killing someone was wrong, but he had lived his current life for eighteen years.

Death was something he was accustomed to, so if it called for it, he wouldn't hesitate to snap her neck right then and there. It didn't matter that she was an innocent bystander who happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. Of course, it would cause a huge ruckus if one of the heroes was suddenly dead. Everyone would comb the halls for clues on how this could have happened, but he was sure no one would figure out it was him.

Seeing no reaction from her, he asked, "Well, are you going to listen?"

Aria wondered why this was happening to her. She had just been minding her own business and going to her part time job after class when she had been suddenly brought into some strange world. There had been loads of strangers nearby, and she wilted into the background, hoping nothing bad would happen to her. Then the angel appeared, telling them they were heroes.

How was she a hero? She was probably one of the plainest people possible. There was nothing about her that stuck. Aria didn't have any fighting skills, and she wasn't pretty. She wasn't the only one who had complaints, but the angel didn't listen to anyone. The angel just sent everyone away, and Aria found herself stuck with a bunch of strangers in some kind of fantasy world.

She had hoped to stay in the background and avoid any more trouble, but she was now being held hostage by some crazy guy. Aria had noticed the stranger walking around with no one commenting on his appearance. He was a handsome man with long blond hair that almost looked like platinum. She had been so captivated by his appearance that she couldn't tear her eyes away from him. Now she was regretting it.

"I'm going to remove my hand now. If you scream, you're dead. Do you understand?" the man said.

It was hard for her to trust him. How could she be sure he would keep his word? No one else had noticed her being kidnapped, even though there had been a bunch of people around. Was he even human? With his looks, maybe he was one of the demons the people had been talking about. The thought made her shake even more. She didn't stand a chance against him if that was the case.

Unaware of what was going on in her head, Shaun frowned. He couldn't tell if she was going to listen or not. However, he was short on time. His family would be back at the carriages soon, and he couldn't afford to miss them. Otherwise, they would get home and find him missing. Then there would be hell to pay. That was something he needed to avoid.

Taking a chance, he removed his hand slowly. If she started screaming, he could move quickly and silence her. Fortunately, she didn't make a single sound as he let her go. However, he made sure to box her in to make sure she didn't try to run. Despite being older than his current body, she was slightly smaller than him, so he had to look down on her.

"I want some information from you, and you need to promise me a few things. If you cooperate with me, then I'll let you leave unharmed," he calmly said. "I suggest you don't make a fuss, and we can part amicably."

Instantly, everything had gone back to normal. Shaun was no longer looking at himself and his demonic looking bullies. He blinked several times as he looked for someone who had spoken up. His eyes fell on a familiar man. It was one of the other heroes. Shaun hadn't expected any of them to step up and interfere when the majority of the heroes were in the same group.A part of him felt bitter. Back in his first life, no one had stepped up for him. Everyone always looked away, as they had been afraid to be the new target if they interfered. Of course he would have done the same, but it still left a bitter aftertaste knowing that no one had been willing to help him. No one had even tried like the hero was currently doing."What do you want?" one of the bullies asked. "Can't you see we're busy?""Why are you bothering him? He's trying to do his job," a woman said as she crossed her arms."We're heroes. It's his job to serve us," one of the female bullies said.

Becky's face burned from humiliation. It wasn't her fault that she had dirtied her clothes in the heat of the moment. Shaun had been looming over her with the threat of death hanging over her neck. If it weren't for that, she would have never made such a mess of herself. Then she realized the other part of his sentence as her face scrunched up in confusion again."I'm returning to the mansion? You're letting me go?" she asked. He scoffed. "Do you really think I'll let you go without any consequences? No. You said it yourself. You'll do anything to live, so you're my slave now.""What?" Becky blurted out as she scrambled to her feet. "What are you talking about?""It's just as I said. You dared to cross me, so you're paying the price. You're my slave until I decide to get rid of you," he said. She stared at him for several long moments before saying, "You can't be serious. Slavery isn't even legal in the kingdom.""If it involves magic, it's binding," he reminded her. While it was true

"What?" Becky blurted out."You heard me. I want you to submit to me and do my bidding. It's the least you can do after everything you've done," Shaun said."I don't know what you're talking about. What have I done to deserve this?" Becky said as her eyes darted around."Don't play dumb." Shaun pulled out a piece of paper from his pocket and watched Becky become pale. "You've been selling information about the mansion to anyone willing to pay. You understand what that means, right?""Y-you're wrong," she stammered. "I'm loyal to the family."Shaun scoffed. "Don't even bother. I know there aren't any loyal bones in any of the servants. They only care about what profits them."Seeing that she wasn't going to convince him that she was loyal, she switched tactics. "Fine. I did share gossip, but that's it. There's nothing wrong with gossip.""That's true if it was simple gossip. You might not have been selling top secret information, but you still revealed a few of your masters' habits." H

Seeing Kellie turn pale, Shaun smirked. It seemed that she hadn't considered how bad things would turn out for her if his disappearance was discovered. Depending on how she did her job and how his orders affected her actions, she would be the prime suspect in his disappearance. She might even be killed, so if she didn't want that to happen, she needed to do her job properly.Of course, that was on the assumption that anyone would notice his disappearance. Shaun doubted it, but he had Kellie cover for him for a reason. Even though he doubted she would be needed, it never hurt to be careful. It was better to be overprepared than to be underprepared. He refused to screw up after making so many preparations because of one simple thing."Dismissed," he ordered.Reluctantly, she left. Kellie clearly wanted to know more or protest, but she no longer had that kind of power. With her gone, Shaun got prepared for his trip outside the mansion. He knew a few ways to get outside without getting ca

[Why didn't the user retaliate? Doesn't the user want revenge against her?]"Of course," Shaun muttered. "However, it's not that simple."[You got revenge on the maid.]"You might not understand since you're not human, but it's not that simple. I could have slapped her back or blackmailed her to leave me alone. However, the consequences wouldn't be worth it. I would know," he said as he recalled his past life.Shaun hadn't been a complete punching bag in the beginning. When he was first being bullied, he did try to push back. Well, not right away. Shaun originally thought they would leave him alone if he ignored them. Of course, that wasn't what happened. Instead, they saw it as him being a doormat. That's when he changed tactics. Surely, they would leave him alone if they thought he wasn't worth targeting. In fact, he had tried to collect evidence of their bullying to report them. That should have surely scared them off if they knew they were going to get in trouble. Unfortunately, t

  • Chapter 14: A Slap to the Face

Unfortunately, Shaun was forced to stop following her when he saw that she had returned to the kitchens. There was no way he could confront her while there were other servants around. He would need to find another opportunity. Luckily, one of the weaknesses the system gave him was a certain habit of hers that would leave her vulnerable to him.Seeing that he had no reason to stay there, he chose to head back to his room. Wandering the halls any longer would only make him suspicious, as he typically stayed in his room except for a few occasions. Slowly making his way back to his room, he ignored the servants he passed by. However, that was just an appearance he was putting on. Out of the corner of his eye, he made sure to memorize as much as he could about the servants he passed by.While he was in his room, he could come up with more plans and strategies for other targets to pass the time. Shaun knew better than to put all his eggs in one basket. An opportunity could also appear when
