Later that night at dinner at the Smith Family mansion, Vic had been relentless in belittling Jonah at every turn. He aimed to show Ava that she was better off with him at the end of the dinner

George Smith sat at the head of the table quietly, focusing on his dinner, as Morraine and Vic tore into Jonah. At this time, his face twisted in an irritating grimace and he suddenly knocked on the table angrily

Everyone at the table exchanged nervous glances at the outburst but no one dared to talk

George puffed a breath and rubbed his nose in slight agitation. However, just then his expression shifted into a pretentious smile as he said

"Ladies and gentlemen, a great opportunity has been presented to us, and we, the Smith family, have been waiting for a chance like this for so many years

This is a chance for us to elevate our family status towards the next level, to the peak of the social pyramid in Eldrege City, if we play our cards right"

He paused and gazed at Jonah before continuing "As I'm sure we all know by now. The Grindel Enterprise Group is tendering a major project of 4 billion dollars, in collaboration with the Mayor.

Now, I don't need to explain just how great and lucrative the benefits this project has to offer, especially as it is the first time Grindel Enterprise is coming to Eldrege City.

If our family can manage to secure a collaboration with them, and we leave a good impression on the VP, I'm sure we will all have a very profitable future, and become very powerful and prominent in this country. It is a great opportunity for us!"

Compared to George's enthusiasm, his family was rather indifferent to the idea. After what happened at the banquet, they had lost all hope in securing any contract with the Grindel Enterprise. If Morraine couldn't do it, what made George feel that they still stood a chance? It was impossible

Annoyed by the lack of response, George's face twisted in an irritating grimace, and then he shifted his gaze toward Jonah with disdain

"Jonah Smith, do you remember the deal we made a year ago?" George asked with a mischievous look in his eyes

A year ago, after Morraine and her elder daughter Caitley, framed Jonah for molesting her, they kicked him out of the family house and threatened to throw him in jail. However, George had stepped in and defused the situation with Ava's help

If the live-in son-in-law of the Smith family was thrown in jail, they would be the laughing stock of Eldrege City

Jonah nodded in response, and George continued

"After much consideration, I have chosen you to represent us and secure a contract with Grindel Enterprise for this family",

Before Jonah could say anything, George quickly continued

"You are still a member of this family until your divorce is final, you will do this task, or else I'll personally have you thrown in jail for molesting my niece" George chided indignantly

Upon hearing his words, Jonah could not believe George could be that shameful to blackmail him

A year ago, he would have cowered at his voice and hurriedly took on such a difficult task with no choice. But things were different now, he no longer had to take their bullsh*t, and uttered boldly

"I won't do it"

The entire table gaped in extreme shock as he said those words. Everyone thought Jonah must be out of his mind, and were greatly irritated. How dare he refuse a direct order from the head of the family?

Annoyed by his response, George's face flushed with anger. He slammed the table furiously and shouted "Are you out of your mind? How dare you refuse me?! Just wait and see, I'll have you thrown in jail this instant" George snapped and quickly retrieved his phone

However, Dennis remained unfazed, calling his bluff. But then Ava suddenly stood up and blurted "He'll do it",

Ava scowled at him. She was so conflicted when she stared at Jonah. She couldn't explain how, but seeing him now, he wasn't the same man she knew a year ago. Jonah seemed more confident and prideful.

Her words were cold and hurtful when she said "You selfish brat. You molested my sister last year and compromised the sanctity of our home. I could have let them throw you in jail, but it's because of my pleas that you are sitting here today

The least you can do is accept this task for the mercy I showed you",

Jonah felt dejected and depressed at her words. He wanted to speak, but he had said everything a year ago, and she still didn't believe him. Still, he felt deeply pained that his wife still couldn't see that he was framed.

Jonah remained quiet for moments, deep in thought.

This would have been an impossible task if the VP was not his Boytoy.

The Smith family was like an insignificant ant to Grindel Enterprise. Even if George went to talk to the executives himself, they wouldn't even bother to see him, let alone talk about a collaboration.

With that, he managed a bitter smile, and decided to do this one last favor for his wife

Heaving a distressing sigh, he said "Okay, I'll make the appointment and get the contract with the VP"

Vic puffed a breath and sneered coldly "How is this loser going to get the biggest enterprise in the country to collaborate with your family?",

George glared at him in annoyance. Upon learning that Jonah was the VP's driver, there was no better person to win over the VP and get that collaboration with Grindel Enterprise

However, George did not believe fully in this plan either. Despite Jonah being the VP's driver, there were no guarantees that the man would pay Jonah any attention, but he was tired of being the head of a family that was always 4th or 5th in the social pyramid, and desperate for the Smith family to go higher, was willing to try anything.

"I should be leaving" Jonah's voice sounded politely across the room. "I have to get an early start on this," he said convincingly.

George nodded in approval, and Jonah stood up, and just before walking out, he stopped beside Ava, leaned toward her, and said softly

"I want you to return the emerald jade necklace when our divorce is final", then walked away, leaving Ava regretful with sadness within her eyes

As he headed out of the room, Jonah retrieved his phone and quickly made a call to the VP, Jerry Paul instructing him to have someone come pick him up at the Smith Family mansion

After a few minutes, a Maybach Pyrex pulled over in front of the open glass walls of the dining room

Everyone's eyes widened as they gaped in surprise upon seeing the luxurious car. This limited-edition car must have been worth at least 5 million dollars. However, when they saw Jonah walk towards it and enter the car, all their astonishment quickly faded away.

They all thought the loser was so pathetic, that he secretly used his boss's car around. It was quite sad and desperate to think about

Suddenly, filled with resentment, Vic blurted pompously, "That sore loser does not stand a chance; my uncle already has connections and ties with some members of Grindel Enterprise and the Mayor's office. If anyone is going to collaborate with this company, it's my family"

When Jonah arrived at Windsor Hotel, he saw Jerry Paul waiting outside with a cheerful smile

"Sir" Jerry called excitedly hurrying towards his boss

"I'm a little surprised you called me so urgently," Jerry Paul said with concern. His boss was a well-detailed and thorough man, if he called him so hastily, something must have been wrong

However, when Jonah did not respond, he decided not to press on the issue

"I've been invited to lunch by the heads of some of the prominent families in the city Mr Blake" Jerry uttered swiftly,

"Sir. They're extremely excited to meet you",

Jonah stopped abruptly, turned towards Jerry with an inexpressive face, and said "Okay. I’ll have lunch with them"
