Chapter 7: The ex-wife

"Vanessa"

He whispers, he isn't surprised that she will show up, he is expecting her. However, he came for just his belongings and nothing more.

George's gaze didn't part from them as he saw her get down from the car with Damon. George looks at Damon as he puts his hand around Vanessa's waist so protectively.

"I love this car, Damon"

Vanessa had to admit as she stared at the flashy car that was parked at the gate of the House.

"Yes it is, it is quite expensive you know, a car like this costs a fortune"

Damon adds. He was good with cars as well along with many other things which Vanessa chose for him.

"A friend of mine almost went insane trying to sell some of his assets just to buy this car but couldn't meet up. This car has a limited version and only a hundred of them exist in the entire world.  Anyone who can afford this kind of car must be filthy rich or close"

Vanessa and Damon stood close to the gate admiring George's car without taking notice of the figure who stood at the gate looking at them.

"I wonder who has it"

Vanessa looked around wondering if it was one of the neighbours.

"Yeah, me too, I'm curious you know, it must be one of your Rich neighbours"

Vanessa and Damon glanced around, averting their gaze to the gate, they jumped, surprised to see George standing at the gate.

"What the hell are you doing here? Are you out of your mind? Didn't the divorce papers settle everything between us? I thought that papers made it clear that I won't have anything to a poor rat like you"

Vanessa frowned, fuming.

"Why don't you go back to whatever pit you got dug out from, you are obviously not welcomed here so get the hell out of my property, you fool"

"Look man, accept that you are a loser, you just didn't lose your job since I was your higher boss and got you fired, but you also lost Vanessa, face it man, you are a sole loser, you were born a loser that is why you had no one around you and will die a loser"

Vanessa laughs.

"I am sick and tired of seeing you, just  go and continue living miserably, I want no part of it."

"That's enough, I didn't come here to pick a fight with you, Vanessa"

George couldn't keep quiet anymore. He had kept calm for Margaret and Alison since he never cared about them at all. However, Vanessa was once his wife and her words made anger surge through his veins.

He frowned, saddened but didn't show it.

"You should Just hear me out"

"I don't want to hear you"

"Go away and never return, disappear, run away or even die, I don't care, just don't show your face to me. I hate poor people and you are one of them"

George was deeply hurt by her words, and seeing both of them together, he didn't want to waste any time here, he just wanted his belongings.

"Aren't you shameless showing up here, you filth?"

Damon chimes in, to if seeing his sorry face

George glanced around, they were trying to draw a lot of attention by throwing insults at him. He exhaled a cold breath, gladdened that the nosy neighbours were not around to watch the little drama.

"I just want to take back my belongings, the things that I left behind here"

"I threw them out, I threw out all of your belongings a few days ago, why should I still have them?"

"You threw them out?"

George was saddened. Those were his memories in the orphanage, his life; pictures of his adoptive parents, even his memories with Vanessa.

"Has poverty affected your hearing as well? Didn't you hear what I just said?"

"Why? Why would you throw out something that doesn't belong to you?"

"You are in no position to question me. Have you forgotten that you are in my house? I can have you kicked out?"

She frowned, angry that he was talking back at her.

"Please tell me why you threw it away?"

"I don't owe you an explanation but then,   Damon and I are getting married a few days from now, I thought about sending it over but then I remembered that burning it will be more fun, and I need a lot of space for our new things coming in next week"

"Don't worry I sent you an Invitation already, no hard feelings man, it is not your fault that you were born a peasant. I am giving you an opportunity to come and watch a rich man's wedding. I want you to watch me while I put a diamond ring on Vanessa's finger, and not that cheap ring you tied around her beautiful fingers''

George squeezed his face, he was angry. Damon just provoked and pushed him to his very limit by sending over an invitation that he never asked for.

However, he wouldn't want them to see his emotions, so he shot a smile at them.

"That is always a red letter day, Isn't it?"

"What?"

They were confused.

"A wedding is a red letter day, so if you invite me to your wedding, wouldn't that ruin the wedding?"

Vanessa glares at him.

"How dare you! It seems you forgot you were a nobody when my Grandfather made us get married, you were a waste"

"How dare you act so high and mighty? Have you forgotten your place is with peasants like you"

  Damon adds.

"How arrogant!"

  Vanessa was furious..

"I don't want to ruin my mood with a loser like you"

Damon flings his hand around Vanessa's waist as they walk into the house, leaving George standing all alone.

George doesn't say a word, he slips his glasses back into his eyes, gets into his car, and turns on the engine.

As he heard the car roar, Damon, who had gotten into the house, opened the window and saw a figure who looked like George getting into the car that was parked at the gate.

That confused him for a moment and at the same time got him curious.

Is that George or someone else?

He runs his hand through his hair as the thought consumes him.

He couldn't keep it to himself so he got up and went to find Vanessa and her family, they were in the kitchen putting some things together.

"I need to tell you something"

"What is it?"

  Vanessa asked.

"I think I saw George driving that expensive car that was parked out outside the gate"

As the words left his mouth, Vanessa and her brother, Alison together with their mother Margaret burst into laughter.

"George, driving an expensive car in this city or the land of the impossible? That's never going to happen"

Margaret admitted.

"He doesn't even own a bicycle let alone a tricycle or a bike and now it's an expensive car, trust me he cannot afford any of that"

"He doesn't even know anyone who owns a bicycle, and if he knows it is his other peasants friends, if he has any"

Alison had to add.

"They are right, all the years we lived together, the only thing that George owns is nothing, he goes to work by jumping onto trains, and returns home by foot or train. It is just not possible for George to be the man who drove that expensive car with a limited version"

Damon nodded his car, they said it was impossible but he felt strange since the figure he had seen seemed to be like George. However he knew the man when he was working for him, he was nothing but a coward, that was his identity and he knows that.
