Chapter 6
“Alex?” she whispered, her voice soft… trembling with disbelief. “Is that really you? I’ve been hoping to see you all this while… thank goodness you’re here already.” She stepped closer, lifting her hands as if to touch his face, but Alex stopped her, catching her wrists midair. “What can I do for you, ma’am?” he asked, his tone clipped and professional as he let go of her hands. Victoria sprang to her feet and rushed towards him quickly, but the guards stopped her before she could get a chance to reach him. She collapsed to her knees instead, sobbing uncontrollably at Alex's feet. “Alex, son, please you can't do this to us. We made a terrible mistake. We never knew you were this wealthy. You can't take away the contract… our family would go bankrupt.” “I ask again… how may I be of help here?” Alex snapped, his voice more icy now… like nothing they had said made sense to him. One of the guards moved forward and lowered his head before him. “Boss. They had just finished dining in the executive lounge of the restaurant, and now they have refused to settle their bills.” “No… no, that's not true.” Victoria cut in. “It's just… the contract… our credit cards have been affected too. We never said we weren't going to sort the bills.” Alex folded his arms, his jaw clenched, his expression cold. “Alright, are you ready to pay up now, or would you rather head to the kitchen and start doing the dishes?” “Dishes?” Elena chimed in, her eyes wide with terror. “Come on, baby. You won't let us do the dishes right? That's way below our status. I'm still your wife...” “Ex-wife!” Alex snapped, stopping her cold before she could finish. He locked his gaze ahead, breaking eye contacts with them. “I see you all have nothing meaningful to say. I'm out of here. The security guards will escort you to the kitchen.” “No… no, Alex. Wait, we need to talk. Come on, Alex…” Elena called out relentlessly, her voice echoing throughout the hallway. But Alex didn't even bat an eye. He just kept moving, his shoes clinking softly on the cold marble tiles as he headed towards the door. He had almost reached the door when a loud voice called out, freezing him in place. He turned slowly, and right there, Marcus was standing behind him, pinned firmly on both sides by the guards. “You won't get away with this, loser! I promise you that!” Marcus roared on top of his voice, thrashing and kicking against the men pinning him down. “This is definitely not the end. I'll come back for you.” Alex stood there, staring at him like he was nothing more than a fly. Then he gave the guards a dismissive wave and walked away. As soon as he left, the guards grabbed Elena's hands, then Victoria's, then Marcus's... leading them towards the small door which led to the kitchen. Alex returned to the Wellington Estate in no time. He made his way into his private office, crashing into the couch with a deep sigh. James stormed in almost immediately. “How did it go?” Alex looked up at him, but he didn't say a word. He just rubbed his temples and gave a deep sigh… like the whole world was pressing down on him. “Are you sure you're okay?” James quizzed again, panic rising in his voice. “Would you like me to get you the family doctor?” “No, there would be no need for that. I'm fine.” Alex replied quickly, steadying his gaze. “I need you to get me Harlan Voss… right away. Sophia Reyes also. I need my team here before midnight.” Harlan Voss was his grandfather’s oldest friend and toughest advisor. Sophia Reyes was the smartest financial expert in the company. Both of them had known Alexander’s secret the whole time. They had both waited three years for this night. James nodded, rising to his feet. “I'll do that right away.” He echoed and turned to the door. “One more thing, James.” Alex continued, stopping him abruptly. “I also need you and your men to put an eye on Marcus Ashford. Report every detail about him to me—his daily life, who he visits, where he lives, where he works.” “Sure, boss. I'll do just that.” James replied and left without another word. By midnight, Alex sat around the big desk with Harlan and Sophia, celebrating the company's greatness. Harlan poured whiskey into the three glasses on the table, a smirk playing on his lips. “First twenty-four hours, and you’ve already wrecked half the city. I’m proud of you, kid.” Sophia opened her laptop, taking a slow sip of whiskey. “Thompson stock dropped ninety-two percent today. They’re finished.” She glanced at Alex, catching his full attention. “Want me to purchase the scraps for pennies?” Alexander leaned back in his chair, his expression calm and calculating. “Not yet. Let them squirm a little longer.” Harlan raised his glass. “To greater victories... and to the new king.” They clinked their glasses and took a sip. Alexander set his glass down with a sharp thud, exhaling deeply. “Now, the real work begins,” he said, his voice cutting through the silence as tension settled over the room. Harlan and Sophia exchanged puzzled glances at each other, their eyes flashing with curiosity. Alex leaned forward, pressing his hands together as he glanced between them. “Now that I’ve officially taken on the role of the CEO, a new threat has emerged… and I’m certain it won’t be long before he makes his first move.” “A new threat?” They echoed, their brows knitting in confusion. “Who is it? Tell us, and we’ll make sure he doesn’t see another day,” Harlan growled. Alex shook his head firmly. “This enemy is not one who can be easily targeted. As a matter of fact, it’s not just one person... they are numerous. They’re coming for me, and they’re definitely coming for the Wellington Empire as well.” Harlan and Sophia exchanged a confused glance. While they were still trying so hard to understand what he meant by those words, Alex reached into the lockers.Latest Chapter
Unexpected Foe
Chapter 16He headed straight to James’s wing… and there he was, fast asleep.“Let me know the moment he wakes,” he instructed the guard at the door, then turned and made his way back to his suite. But what he didn’t expect was to find another guard already waiting outside his door, hands clasped behind his back.“Boss,” the guard said, his voice firm but tense, “I have a confession to make.”Alex studied him for a second, then gave a slow nod. “Go on. I’m listening.”“It’s about Miss Thompson…”Alex’s eyes darkened the instant her name was mentioned. He stepped forward in a flash, grabbing the guard by the collar, his grip tight and unforgiving.“What about her?” he growled, his voice laced with fury. “Is she in danger?”The guard gasped for breath, struggling in his hold. He shook his head frantically, unable to speak until Alex finally released him.“Now talk,” Alex snapped, crossing his arms as he began to circle him. “What exactly do you have to say about her?”The guard clutched
Cold Warning
Chapter 15They both nodded and straightened in their seats, sensing the weight in his tone as they braced themselves for what he was about to say.“I'm sure you both are aware of the secret spy who has been siphoning funds from the Wellington Estate into an unknown account.” Alex said, his tone cool but dangerously low as he rested his chin on his clasped hands, his eyes locked on them. They both nodded without hesitation.“Good,” he murmured with quiet satisfaction, placing his hands firmly on the armrests. “Now I need just one thing from you… find out who’s behind it, and bring that person to me before dusk tomorrow.”Harlan and Sophia exchanged quick, uneasy glances, their brows tightening in disbelief, as though Alex had made an impossible demand. But they didn't protest. Instead, they bowed their heads respectfully. “We’ll do as you’ve said, Mr. Wellington.”Without another word, Alex stood and walked towards the window, his hands buried in his pockets. “That’ll be all for now.
A Spy
Chapter 14“It's a good thing you called me when you did.” The doctor said quietly, his voice laced with severity as he finished examining Elena. His gaze remained on her fragile frame resting on the bed, his expression darkening. “She could have lost the baby if you hadn’t intervened in time.”A cold chill ran through Alex… and his eyes shifted quickly between Elena and the doctor. “But… she's stable now, right?”“Yes, she is.” The doctor replied, his tone softening into a calm, solemn whisper. “She just needs to rest properly. With proper care, both she and the baby will be fine.”“Thank you, doctor.” Alex exhaled, his voice laced with a mix of panic and relief as his gaze returned to Elena. Then turning his full attention to the doctor, his expression sharpened. “I'd like to have a word with you. Outside.”The doctor gave a quick nod. “Of course, Mr Wellington. After you.”Alex stepped into the hallway, holding the door open until the doctor followed. As soon as they were both outs
Investigations
Chapter 13He fumed aggressively, but before he could utter another word, Sophia's eyes landed on the ring on his finger.“No way.” She breathed, her voice laced with disbelief. “Is that… the platinum ring?”Alex gave a small nod and exhaled deeply as he sank back into the seat beside her.“You’ve got to be kidding me,” Sophia gasped, barely able to contain her shock. “How did you get it back so easily?”“Well, it was never really missing.” Alex said quietly, his tone flat and distant.Sophia's brows knit in confusion. “That doesn't make any sense. We all saw it when he took the ring. How can you say it was never missing?”Alex clasped his hands tightly, staring into the blank space as he thought about everything Sophia had said earlier… the unauthorized bank transfers, the secret spy leaking personal information from within the estate… still spun in his mind, leaving him overwhelmed. He was so lost in his thoughts that everything else Sophia said made no sense to him.He remained tha

Chapter 12Alex's eyes widened like he had just been punched in the guts. “You're not serious, are you?” He quizzed, lowering his voice.James nodded quietly. He was already too weak to speak now. He just lay still on the floor, his breath slowed and forced.“It's… it's true.” He stuttered, his voice shredded into tiny bits. “Victor has only been flaunting the fake all this while. I didn't let him have the real one… because I made a promise to your grandfather on his dying bed that I'd protect it with my life.” At this point, the furious look on Alex's face had disappeared, replaced with an intrigued, terribly shocked expression. He crouched closely towards James's weak frame, his gaze turning softer now. “If indeed what you say is true, why then is the ring not there in the safe? And why did you have to keep it from me for so long?”James coughed between quiet, muffled sobs, his voice rough and croaky as he struggled to speak.“I… I hid it from you because I was waiting for the perf
The Unfolding
Chapter 11James's eyes went wide with terror, his breath falling in ragged gasps. “Please Alex, you need to hear me out. I didn't mean for any of this to happen.” He spat weakly, blood already spilling from his mouth. But Alex wasn't buying into his pathetic sermons this time. He crouched towards him and grabbed a handful of his hair, pulling it aggressively until his veins popped out of his forehead. He leaned forward, his hot breath fanning his face. “It's obvious you're not ready to speak.” He whispered straight into his ear, and rose to his feet. He turned to the guards, his hands crossed behind him. “Lock him up until he's ready to speak.” The guards nodded and marched forward. They grabbed James on both arms, leading him into the cold, dark basement behind the house. They bound his legs and hands with heavy chains, tied a blindfold over his eyes, and threw him into the basement.James yelled after them, his voice echoing off the thick walls. But it was all useless now… they h
