Chapter 6
“Alex?” she whispered, her voice soft… trembling with disbelief. “Is that really you? I’ve been hoping to see you all this while… thank goodness you’re here already.” She stepped closer, lifting her hands as if to touch his face, but Alex stopped her, catching her wrists midair. “What can I do for you, ma’am?” he asked, his tone clipped and professional as he let go of her hands. Victoria sprang to her feet and rushed towards him quickly, but the guards stopped her before she could get a chance to reach him. She collapsed to her knees instead, sobbing uncontrollably at Alex's feet. “Alex, son, please you can't do this to us. We made a terrible mistake. We never knew you were this wealthy. You can't take away the contract… our family would go bankrupt.” “I ask again… how may I be of help here?” Alex snapped, his voice more icy now… like nothing they had said made sense to him. One of the guards moved forward and lowered his head before him. “Boss. They had just finished dining in the executive lounge of the restaurant, and now they have refused to settle their bills.” “No… no, that's not true.” Victoria cut in. “It's just… the contract… our credit cards have been affected too. We never said we weren't going to sort the bills.” Alex folded his arms, his jaw clenched, his expression cold. “Alright, are you ready to pay up now, or would you rather head to the kitchen and start doing the dishes?” “Dishes?” Elena chimed in, her eyes wide with terror. “Come on, baby. You won't let us do the dishes right? That's way below our status. I'm still your wife...” “Ex-wife!” Alex snapped, stopping her cold before she could finish. He locked his gaze ahead, breaking eye contacts with them. “I see you all have nothing meaningful to say. I'm out of here. The security guards will escort you to the kitchen.” “No… no, Alex. Wait, we need to talk. Come on, Alex…” Elena called out relentlessly, her voice echoing throughout the hallway. But Alex didn't even bat an eye. He just kept moving, his shoes clinking softly on the cold marble tiles as he headed towards the door. He had almost reached the door when a loud voice called out, freezing him in place. He turned slowly, and right there, Marcus was standing behind him, pinned firmly on both sides by the guards. “You won't get away with this, loser! I promise you that!” Marcus roared on top of his voice, thrashing and kicking against the men pinning him down. “This is definitely not the end. I'll come back for you.” Alex stood there, staring at him like he was nothing more than a fly. Then he gave the guards a dismissive wave and walked away. As soon as he left, the guards grabbed Elena's hands, then Victoria's, then Marcus's... leading them towards the small door which led to the kitchen. Alex returned to the Wellington Estate in no time. He made his way into his private office, crashing into the couch with a deep sigh. James stormed in almost immediately. “How did it go?” Alex looked up at him, but he didn't say a word. He just rubbed his temples and gave a deep sigh… like the whole world was pressing down on him. “Are you sure you're okay?” James quizzed again, panic rising in his voice. “Would you like me to get you the family doctor?” “No, there would be no need for that. I'm fine.” Alex replied quickly, steadying his gaze. “I need you to get me Harlan Voss… right away. Sophia Reyes also. I need my team here before midnight.” Harlan Voss was his grandfather’s oldest friend and toughest advisor. Sophia Reyes was the smartest financial expert in the company. Both of them had known Alexander’s secret the whole time. They had both waited three years for this night. James nodded, rising to his feet. “I'll do that right away.” He echoed and turned to the door. “One more thing, James.” Alex continued, stopping him abruptly. “I also need you and your men to put an eye on Marcus Ashford. Report every detail about him to me—his daily life, who he visits, where he lives, where he works.” “Sure, boss. I'll do just that.” James replied and left without another word. By midnight, Alex sat around the big desk with Harlan and Sophia, celebrating the company's greatness. Harlan poured whiskey into the three glasses on the table, a smirk playing on his lips. “First twenty-four hours, and you’ve already wrecked half the city. I’m proud of you, kid.” Sophia opened her laptop, taking a slow sip of whiskey. “Thompson stock dropped ninety-two percent today. They’re finished.” She glanced at Alex, catching his full attention. “Want me to purchase the scraps for pennies?” Alexander leaned back in his chair, his expression calm and calculating. “Not yet. Let them squirm a little longer.” Harlan raised his glass. “To greater victories... and to the new king.” They clinked their glasses and took a sip. Alexander set his glass down with a sharp thud, exhaling deeply. “Now, the real work begins,” he said, his voice cutting through the silence as tension settled over the room. Harlan and Sophia exchanged puzzled glances at each other, their eyes flashing with curiosity. Alex leaned forward, pressing his hands together as he glanced between them. “Now that I’ve officially taken on the role of the CEO, a new threat has emerged… and I’m certain it won’t be long before he makes his first move.” “A new threat?” They echoed, their brows knitting in confusion. “Who is it? Tell us, and we’ll make sure he doesn’t see another day,” Harlan growled. Alex shook his head firmly. “This enemy is not one who can be easily targeted. As a matter of fact, it’s not just one person... they are numerous. They’re coming for me, and they’re definitely coming for the Wellington Empire as well.” Harlan and Sophia exchanged a confused glance. While they were still trying so hard to understand what he meant by those words, Alex reached into the lockers.Latest Chapter
The Ghost in The Machine
Chapter 26Alex stared at the USB drive like it was laced with poison, then looked up at Sophia as he reluctantly took it from her hand.“Thank you, Sophia. But we need to move… now. There’s a lot we have to fix.” He slid into the driver’s seat, and within minutes, they pulled up to the safe house… located far away from Victor’s reach… where James and Lily had been hiding. The moment they stepped inside, Sophia didn’t waste a second. She pulled out her laptop, her eyes scanning the room like a seasoned investigator before settling into work mode. Her fingers flew across the keyboard, pulling up systems, checking activity, piecing together the puzzle.Alex sat with Harlan, James, and Lily in the corner, watching her work quietly. The air grew tense as Sophia’s expression hardened. She paused, looking up at Alex with unease etched in her face.“I’m scared, sir,” she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Her eyes darted back to the screen, then slowly returned to him. “It’s Vic

Then he looked ahead at the rest of the board, his expression hard and composed.“I called this meeting to address the chaos we've been experiencing across the empire recently,” he began, his voice steady as his eyes scanned the room. “We all know this is nothing but sabotage… lies planted by a rival. It's no cause for alarm, I can…”“If anyone here’s lying, Alex, it’s you.” Reginald cut in, leaning forward with a cold glare. “We can’t sit by while this company bleeds. Our stock value is plummeting by the day. Investors are walking away.
Counter Attack
Chapter 24Alex felt something snap within him at that moment. He had a grave feeling there was more disaster waiting for him inside. He bolted in without saying a word, and just as he predicted, a great misfortune hit him as he dashed into Elena's room. He stumbled inside quickly, but his breath caught when a total silence greeted him. He looked around in confusion, but there was no sign of her anywhere.“Elena?” He called out quietly. But there was no response, just a choking silence echoing back at him like a cruel whisper. He froze as his eyes found something on the table. A note.He reached out and grabbed it slowly, his hands trembling violently as he tore it open. His breath stopped as soon as his gaze landed on the words scribbled on the paper.‘Nice try, kid. Now see what happens when I let the whole world believe you've been keeping her hostage just for fucks and kids.’His eyes smeared open like he had just been punched in the guts.Victor.It was him… he had broken into h
Ambushed
Chapter 23Alex dashed into the basement, but what he didn't expect was to see Marcus standing there, with a girl bound with thick ropes round a chair. He stepped forward, his jaw tight as he aimed towards Marcus, his gun already positioned towards him.But before he could get any closer, two men cornered him, their guns positioned at his head. Then Marcus turned, and that was when he saw Alex standing there, with his men gathered around him.He smirked, approaching him slowly. “Well, well, well,” he drawled. “Look who we have here. The almighty Golden boy is here in our territory.”“You… you also have a hand in this?” Alex's eyes widened as he raised his head up towards Marcus.Marcus's grin spread wider across his lips. He marched forward, his smile fading to a cold glare. “Surprised, aren't you?” He circled him slowly, running a hand through his hair. Then he stopped in front of him, just enough to lock eyes with him. “Now, what brings you to my territory?”Alex clenched his teet

Freya clamped her hands over her ears, her entire body shaking from the brutal sound of the shots. The guards dashed out, their guns raised, firing back in the direction the shots had come from. The battle escalated quickly. The Ambush
Chapter 21Victor shot to his feet, his eyes blazing with rage. A storm of anxiety and fury surged through him as he locked eyes with Alex… only to freeze when he saw the ring raised high in Alex’s hand.He slowly glanced down at the one on his own finger, the same one he had proudly flaunted all this while, and his face flushed with fury as the bitter realization struck. It wasn’t as authentic as the one Alex was holding. It wasn’t even close.“That bastard,” he hissed under his breath, his anger boiling over. His eyes darted again to his ring. “He’s been lying to me all along. How the hell didn’t I see through it?”Alex’s voice rang out again, sharp and commanding, cutting through the tension in the hall.“This ring I hold is the true Wellington heirloom. What he’s wearing is a cheap imitation. And I’m ready to prove it.”Gasps rippled through the room as stunned murmurs spread like wildfire.Victor couldn’t contain himself any longer. He stormed up to the podium, ripped the mic fro
