Chapter 17

“Marcus,” Alex breathed, frozen in place, his voice almost betraying him. “What the hell are you doing here?”

Marcus's lips curled into a smug smile as his eyes slowly scanned the place. “Hmm… quite the luxury you've got here,” he murmured before locking eyes with Alex again.

Alex’s fists clenched at his sides, his jaw stiff with growing impatience. His eyes darkened with rage.

“That’s not what I asked.” His voice was sharp and cold. “What do you want? And how the hell did you even get in here?”

Marcus let out a dry, raspy laugh, which sent a chill running down Alex’s spine.

“Oh, come on, Alex,” he drawled, folding his arms like they were discussing the weather. “You really want to pretend like you don’t know why I’m here?”

Alex narrowed his eyes in confusion, his mind racing… until Marcus’s next words struck him like a slap.

“I came for my woman… and my child,” he hissed, his voice dropping to a deadly whisper. “And trust me, I’m not leaving without them.”
