CHAPTER SEVEN

Owen finally finished his night shift at exactly 4:03am and he felt extremely exhausted and all he needed now was sleep.

Owen headed straight to the boss's office to inform him about his leave tomorrow but sadly the man turned him down and said the leave won't be granted even though Owen worked two shifts today. Owen left the man's office sadly and went to change.

Luckily for him, Kate texted him during his shift that Maria also kicked her out of the mansion temporarily making her go stay with her aunt and Owen was welcomed to come.

The aunt's residence was only few streets away from the hotel so it wouldn't take so much time for him to get there. Owen changed back into his clothes and headed out of the hotel.

Kate's aunt's residence was a medium sized bungalow with different modern designs and gardens. Inside the building, two ladies could be seen having a discussion.

"Why did your mother ask you to leave?" Aunt Jenna questioned, still surprised by the fact that Maria asked her own daughter to leave by this time of the day.

"Isn't it obvious? She kicked me out cause I refused to divorce Owen and marry Chris." Kate responded with flushed cheeks as she sat on the sofa helplessly.

Hearing the words of Kate, aunt Jenna began to fume in rage.

"What is your problem, Kate?" Aunt Jenna voiced out in anger.

"What do you mean?" Confused Kate questioned.

"Why don't you just divorce that good for nothing husband of yours and marry Chris McLean? What could that trash Owen ever offer? I can't believe the decision is so tough for you to make!" Aunt Jenna retorted. "And to think that you chose to leave the house cause of that trash panda? Geez, Kate."

"I don't want Chris! Wait, I remembered clearly the way every single one was happy when I and Owen got married back then when he was still rich. Everyone including my mother and you supported the wedding, but now that he's poor you are asking me to divorce him?" Kate voiced.

"Yes!" Aunt Jenna responded sharply. "That's exactly my point. Back then he was useful cause he was loaded and powerful, but after his parents death he became useless and a worthless trash, and I don't see any reason to still keep him by your side."

"Chris on the other hand has a high position in Echelon Industries, if you were married to him it won't be hard for our family to secure a partnership with Echelon Industries. Be wise, Kate! Divorce that trash and marry..." Aunt Jenna paused in her words when the main character of their gossip walks in.

"What's the matter? I heard voices from meters away." Owen questioned with a slight look of confusion.

"You are the problem, you stinking racoon. You stink of poverty!" Aunt Jenna retorted with a sneer as she turned around and walked to her room, leaving Owen stunned.

"What was that all about?" Owen then turned to face his wife seeking for answers.

"My mother kicked me out of the house cause I refused to sign the divorce papers." Kate answered back. "But don't worry, I am sure she will come around and finally realize what she's doing is wrong." Kate added.

Owen on the other hand didn't need Kate to tell him Maria Steele's attitude towards him would soon change now that he has 100 billion in his account and also owns the Echelon Industries everyone is fighting to get a partnership with.

At first, Owen's plan was to lie low for now to avoid exposing his father, but the fact that it was his father who gave him the money and companies meaning he wanted him to have his old life back and it was okay to spend lavishly.

"I see." Owen nodded his head. "So, when do you plan on returning?" Owen inquired.

"I can't go back unless she asks me or I marry Chris. And with the way things her right now I am sure she isn't ready to forgive me neither am I ready to marry Chris, so I guess I would be staying here for quite a while." Kate explained.

"Thank you..for sticking with me, Kate." Owen appreciated with a genuine smile. The fact that Kate was still fighting for their marriage made him happy.

He had thought Kate would join her family to despise him and probably divorce him, but surprisingly none of that happened and Owen couldn't help but feel grateful.

"If only I have a stable job I would have moved out of her house and live on my own. If I could secure a job at Echelon Industries, things would go smoothly with both of us and we won't be worried about my family no more." Kate spoke in a saddened tone before rising up and walked straight to the room.

Owen watched her leave before leaning his back on the sofa and began to ponder.

'A job in Echelon Industries, eh?' Owen pondered internally with looks of contemplation. Since Kate has been loyal to him from day one, the least he could do for her was grant her a high position in the Echelon Industries tomorrow.

If she can get the job, she won't get to worry about her mother's nagging and complaints cause she would be living far away from everyone.

'Brace yourself, Kate, you are about to get a decent job at the Echelon Industries.' Owen grinned before laying down on the sofa and slept off instantly since he was extremely exhausted.

***

The morning sun rose up and Owen rose up from his slumber. He swiftly made breakfast and dashed out of the house to head to the hotel he worked since his meeting in Echelon Industries was in the afternoon.

After running for few minutes he arrived in the hotel and quickly changed into his uniform to begin his work.

"Hey, Owen, get this order to table seven." A deep male's voice ordered and Owen swiftly picked up the tray of food and began to take it to table seven.

While approaching the table Owen could already see two couples sitting meters away on the table he was headed, and their faces he recognized very well.

'Is that Kate?' Owen pondered internally with widened eyes as he approached his wife who was sitting right next to Chris McLean.

She had thought of what happened between her and her mother earlier and now, she was feeling a little bit guilty. She could clearly understand the kind of pain and confusion her mother was in, and yelling at her that way was like pouring salt on an open wound. She had to sleep over it to realize that. Mario shifted on the bed and she understood he was trying to sit up. She sat up and he did too. They sat facing each other and he gave her a look that said ‘I told you so’ . “Don't give me that look” Kate said as she bent her face. She was already having a bad day without getting out of bed. She stood up from the bed and stripped to the bathroom. She washed her face and cleaned her teeth before coming out. She met him in the same position she had left him and she gave him a questioning look. “Aren't you getting out of bed?” She asked. “Hell, I am

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FIVE They had been standing for the past ten minutes and Danny had not said a word to them even after everything Tyla had said. The guards had stopped banging the door and Rose Mary surmised that they had come to a conclusion that banging it would not make her open it. She had a cunny smirk on her face. “What do you say Danny? Just a word from you and those men outside will back down. You can end this, you alone can end it” Tyla continued, hoping she could convince her even though her hope was very low. “So, I should let him go? Is that what you are trying to say” She asked, her gun still pointing at Owen where he knelt on the floor. “Yes, and we can all go home in Peace” Rose Mary replied this time. “Here you are, talking of peace and still having a gun pointed at me. How peaceful that looks” Danny taunted. Owen looked between Rose and Tyla and he gave her a slow nod. She gave Danny a thorough look before gently bringing the gun

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY FOUR Rina sat on the floor in the bathroom, she had left the shower on so she could cry and shout without anyone outside noticing even though she knew they wouldn't notice since the walls were soundproof and she had shut the door damn tight. She couldn't take Tyla's voice off her mind, the statement repeated itself severally in her ears and she tried to shut it off, but it wasn't working out. Of all the times, now that she had finally fallen for him, now that she had decided to be good, live a good life and make kids with him. She laughed warily. It seems fate has its own way of making decisions. She had finally become a first wife without even asking for it. Never in her wildest dreams would she think that something like this would actually happen. She didn't grow up in a polygamous family so she wouldn't want her kid to grow up in one as she knew about the issues that always resulted. She got under the running shower with her clothes on

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY THREE She never thought Gabriel would think of coming here in this lifetime. “What the hell is Gabriel doing here?” She asked no one in particular “Tell him I'm on my way” she told the girl before going back in and she heard the girl leave. She went back into her room and she wiped the tears off her face and applied a little bit of makeup to shield her swollen under eyes. She came out after a little time and she went downstairs to see Gabriel. He came with his assistant, his handbag as she addressed him before. “To what do I owe this pleasure?” She asked as she walked down the stairs majestically. Gabriel and the man raised their heads up simultaneously to look at her. “Tamara” Gabriel called and she cocked a brow at him. “What is it Mr man?” She asked “How's Daniel?” He asked and she chuckled loudly. “Oh, you remembered to ask of him today. That's weird, did something happen to Owen? Huh? Best father of the year” She said, her voi

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TWO “Hands up where I can see them” she heard him say again and she obeyed without complaining. She heard an engine roar and in no time, the whole place lit up. It seems they had put on the generator. She cursed as she saw the person pointing the gun at her. It was the man from earlier, the one she had not killed and she regretted that decision right now. She should have just killed him, but it was too late. Sb couldn't turn back the hand of time. She raised both of her hands up in the air and she saw another shooter come out from the back. It was Danny and it seems like the woman recognized her too because she smirked when she saw her. Tyla gave her a bored look, she had this haughty smile on her face. “What a surprise Tyla, looks like Owen couldn't man up and come by himself, so he sent you instead. That's funny” she said, her smirk not leaving her face. “Well, he didn't seem you worthy enough” Tyla replied with a calm smile and Danny cocked

CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY ONE “Unfortunately, I can't. You have to listen to me” Mario yelled back and that earned him a glare from Kate. “I do not regret it because no matter how many times I look at it, all I can see is the day you walked through that door and then the moment you agreed to marry me” he paused for a while. “At first, I had decided that I would just play along until it was time to leave, but after spending a day with you, here in this house, I fell without second thoughts. I do not know what you have done or what you are doing to me Kate, heck I didn't even marry you out of love, but I can gladly tell you that this man right here is on a leash and you Kate, are the one who holds that leash” he paused again. He could see she was literally struggling with the tears that were threatening to pour out any minute. “I understand why you're acting this way, but I just want you to know that I am very sorry and I wish you would actually forgive me and we can go b
