Kyle blinked, still staring at Lia and that flickering candle like it was something out of a dream.“Lia…” he whispered. His sister beamed, cheeks a little flushed now thanks to the potion working through her system. “Ta-da~ How do you like the surprise, birthday boy?”The frosting was a little smudged, the candle half-melted and flickering — but to him, it looked perfect. “You… got me a cupcake?” he asked, voice barely above a whisper. The kind of place you didn’t choose to live in, it chose you when the system marked you as Dustborn and not worth the resources. He walked to the most desolate building in the colony and sighed. He pushed open the rusty gate to their building, careful not to wake anyone. These people had to give their all just to live one day more. They barely had time to rest, so he didn’t have the heart to disturb them. Kyle slowly climbed up the worn out stairs, stopping at the third floor. He paused outside the rusting door of the A303, pressing his forehead against the metal for a moment. Then he adjusted the bag in his hand, and straightened his worn out shirt, hoping to look a bit better. He exhaled slowly. Then he pressed his finger on the scanner. The door creaked op

The walk to the blood bank felt longer than it should’ve been. Whenever he would not been able to collect the necessary amounts to get the healing potion in these years, he would have to come to this place.Kyle shoved his hands deep into his pockets, the chill biting at his fingers even through the thin fabric. His thoughts spun around the huge debt like a cage, but every time his mind went there, he forced it away. One step at a time.Right now, he needed to get Lia her potion. After taking the potion, she would feel less pain, at least for one month. The neon sign of the blood bank flickered like it was on its last breath. Kyle stepped in through the glass doors, and the smell hit him immediately, like metal and disinfectant. The place was too clean and too empty. As, not everyone willing to sell blood to get foods. “Opti-com scan,” the clerk said without looking up.Kyle raised his wrist. A soft beep echoed through the room.
