Like he had initially suspected, she did hide a knife behind her back, and she was aiming for his jugular. He caught her wrist and forced her to drop the knife. Then he maneuvered her so her arm was twisted behind her back, and she was facing away from him.
"Let go," she demanded as she flailed around, trying to break free from his grip, but to no avail.
"And let you try to stab me again? I don't think so," he said.
In the time all of this happened, 'Kayla' and Grace remained behind him, as they weren't sure what to do. Well, he was more inclined to believe the latter was unsure of what she should do. For the former, she probably figured that he had everything covered and didn't even try after she had quickly recovered from the surprise attack. It was better that way, as they would have probably gotten in the way, and she might have escaped.
