“ Stop this nonsense, we are in the 21st century and you all are still behaving like cavemen” Emily Smith yelled and it was no surprise to the group that it was Emily speaking .

Her voice cut through the crowd like a knife cutting through butter and after her statement which made the hall stand still she walked straight to the VIP Section, as usual she was with Pat who was invited for the ceremony.

With so much anger in her eyes after seeing how humiliated Robert was, she threatened to report the students and the incidents to the school authority and the hall immediately went dead silent and the students holding Robert started trembling in fear

Although, Emily was not part of the Elites families who are super wealthy she had an active and buzzing social media platforms and was a a big influencer, News like this on her platform would lead to expulsion of the students and not because of what they were doing but because Emily was the one pressing for it.

Emily brought out her phone, and after scrolling through her contacts, placed the phone in her ear. But just before the call would ring, someone snatched her phone from her. Emily turned around to see who collected her phone and discovered it was Pat Hunter, her boyfriend.

“ Give me back my phone” Emily asked Pat but he slapped her instead and the slap was so intense that it echoed through the halls twice and the students immediately brought out their phones to record this iconic moment and shortly the schools social media platforms started buzzing with short clips and news of how the biggest influencer- Emily was slapped by her rich boyfriend.

The headlines were trending and the students kept on videoing the scene. Just as they thought the drama was over Pat slapped Emily again in order to show his dominance that not even Emily could stop Robert from being humiliated. The hall was dead silent as he walked to his seat

“ Guys continue with the ceremony, it's high time we teach these poor bastard's like Robert that they are not allowed in this school, talk more of studying with the elites” Pat said in agreement with the Orlando twins and the ceremony continued

Pat had never supported Emily’s ideas on equality and justice, he had only agreed to marry her because she was among the most beautiful girls in town, and it would be a good image for him when he pushes his political ambition the next year. Pat informed everybody that he was going to sign the multiple billion dollar contract with the Ultimate family after the ceremony was over.

“ Once the deal is done , we won't see the likes of Robert and his mother again and we would renovate all the downtowns of Pinehills where all the poor and wretched people have camped into a more classy and sophisticated for more wealthy individuals to live in, the estate will be called Aurum Grove and I can't wait for this to happen then we would not have lowlifes like Robert in our city” Pat added as he was seated in the VIP Lounge.

“ Also guys , don't mind Emily , you know that she can be overzealous so don't take her word for it “ Pat said to convince the Twine group do that they would not see Emily as an enemy,”

“It's fine bro, now back to where we were, bring him closer to lick the shoe “ David yelled at a group of students to bring Robert closer so that he can serve his punishment but Robert had had enough of it all.

His eyes locked to Pat’s; he would have accepted it all, the insults both to him and his mother. But hitting a woman, much less hitting Emily, was not going to be taken. He told the Orlandos that he would make them pay, not later but now. Bucky laughed out loud; he asked the group to wait. He walked up to Robert and then asked him to do his worst or suffer a more horrible fate.

Robert brought out his phone and dialed a number; the phone rang once before the voice from the other side called out.

“Execute Operation Phoenix,” Robert said. “Target: Orlando Conglomerate. Full financial collapse. Ten minutes.”

The hall echoed with laughter and murmurs; not even any of the A-Class family can bankrupt a full enterprise that fast, talking less of such a powerful family like the Orlandos.

The group waited quietly. Time began ticking. Minutes passed.

Everyone waited, mostly out of curiosity, some out of pity.

At the seven-minute mark, the hotel attendant entered. She was carrying a printed bill.

“Your bill, sirs,” she said, handing it to David.

David didn’t even look at it.

“Let’s give this fool some fun,” he smirked. “Let’s see how his plan turns out before we settle the tab.”

By the tenth minute, Bucky yawned dramatically.

“Alright, pauper. Your ten minutes are up. Time to crawl back into the gutter.”

Bucky pulled out his card. “Let’s clear the bill for the most expensive suite—$25k per night. Then all our food, drinks, and services.”

He handed it to the attendant.

Swipe.

BEEP.

Everyone froze.

The beep was unfamiliar. Off.

The attendant frowned, tapped a few buttons, and turned toward Bucky.

“I’m sorry, sir. Transaction unsuccessful.”

Gasps.

Bucky’s brows furrowed. “What?”

“Insufficient authorization. The card was declined.”

“Swipe again,” Bucky barked.

Swipe.

BEEP.

“Still unsuccessful.”

A pin-drop silence enveloped the hall.

Bucky’s hands trembled. “This is impossible. I never—”

David leaned over, peered at the card, and suddenly laughed so hard he nearly fell over.

“You idiot! That’s the old card you reported lost this morning! Remember? You said you blocked it!”

The room erupted in relief-laughter. David smacked Bucky on the head.

“I told you to throw it out, dumbass.”

Still grinning, David brought out his card and waved it theatrically.

“Let me teach my brother how the rich pay.”

He handed it to the attendant.

He told her to first swipe it for the most expensive room in the hotel, which was priced at about twenty-five thousand dollars a night, before swiping it for the rest of their purchases; he wanted the continuous beeping sound of the machine to echo in Robert’s ears.

Swipe.

BEEP.

The attendant paused.

“…Sorry, sir. Transaction unsuccessful.”

Now even David blinked.

“What?”

The murmurs returned. Confused. Anxious. The attendant quickly apologized.

“I may have… I may have input the wrong terminal ID,” the attendant stamme

red. “Please allow me to try again.”

She carefully re-entered the information.

Swipe.

BEEP.

Transaction successful.

The Orlando brothers exhaled, smirks returning.

The hall echoed with roaring laughter. The Orlando twins were basking in their supposed triumph, with David grinning from ear to ear as he turned toward the hotel attendant."Go ahead," he said smugly, flipping his platinum card toward her. "Debit the remaining balance. Let’s end this charade."The attendant nodded and approached the terminal. She inserted the card, punched a few buttons, and—Beep.A red light blinked. She frowned.“Sir… I’m afraid the transaction was declined.”David raised an eyebrow, casually adjusting the cuff of his designer suit. “Then swipe it again. It’s a black card. Probably your machine is acting up.”She tried again.Beep.Still declined.“Is this a joke?” David snapped. “Are you even trained to use that thing?”Just then, a stern voice cut through the tension.“I’ll take over from here.”All eyes turned. It was the club manager, an older man with silver hair and a deep, commanding voice. He walked up to the attendant, his sharp black uniform giving off a

Nobody could insult his mother, especially not these cruel parasites dressed in privilege and pride.Without hesitation, Robert lunged forward, rage igniting in his chest like gasoline to flame. But before his fist could crash into Bucky’s smug face, strong arms grabbed him from behind, half a dozen students dragged him down. Their grip was brutal. One of them leaned in, voice flat and cold, “We don’t care what you do after the ceremony, but until we get our payment, lay a hand on any Orlando again, and you’ll regret it the rest of your miserable life.”His knees hit the marble floor with a dull thud. His arms were pinned behind him, students pressing down like guards restraining a convict. Then came Jackson, grinning like a man drunk on power. He stood above Robert, radiating mockery.“Feels right, doesn’t it?” he sneered. “A dog should always kneel.”Without warning, Jackson slapped him hard across the face.Robert’s jaw clenched, but he didn’t rise. “ Look who we have here!” David chuckled as he and his twin walked towards Robert who was still on the floor as he was trying to recover from the fall they caused. The air was still thick and not even a bird crying or an insect buzzing was heard. David closed his car door, the sound of the door closing almost sent another shock wave down Robert’s spine. David walked closer to him, followed closely by his twin brother Bucky. David grabbed Robert’s hand while Bucky pulled his well-tucked-in shirt. “ Do you think you can just disappear like that” David asked as he squeezed Robert to the wall“So how did Mr Edward retrieve his card from you thief?” Bucky asked Robert who was still held by his shirt by his big twin brother “ I don't know “ Robert managed to say but no one could hear him“ I am sure they had beaten you to a pulp before handing you over to the police “ David said and laughed at how hilarious it would have been to watch him get beaten up for stealing “ Now I am sure the h

The slap came so fast, Robert barely saw it coming—only the burn that bloomed across his cheek gave him time to register it. Mr. Barron Barry stood in front of him, seething, eyes red with fury and champagne glinting at the corners of his lips. The room fell to an eerie hush.“You lowlife scum,” Barron hissed, seizing Robert’s wrist like he were detaining a stray animal. “How did you even get in here? Who let you in? This isn’t a charity dinner for mongrels.”Murmurs swept the ballroom like a cruel wind. Pearls clinked against champagne flutes as the elite audience leaned in, eyes sparkling with glee at the spectacle of the shaming. Some sipped their drinks, some whispered behind manicured nails—but all watched.Robert said nothing. He stood stiffly, his face still stinging, his breathing tight but even. Inside, something cold and bitter coiled.Barron grinned like a conqueror, pleased with his performance. “Security!” he barked. “Get this rat out of my sight.”Two men in black suits

He had been rounding off an important stakeholders meeting and wanted to take his mocha drink before hopping on his next task. Then he checked his vibrating phone to send a do not disturb message when he saw the manager of the mall caller's ID flash through his phone. Surprised by the call, Mr. Edward answered the call with hopes of quickly resolving why she called but he also had a thought and hoped that it was not an emergency from Robert. “Hello?” came the sharp, tired voice of Mr. Edward.“Good evening, sir,” the mall manager began, trying to keep her tone calm, “I just wanted to inform you directly before we proceed. Your black card—it’s been recovered. We found it in the possession of a young man named Robert Hyman. We are preparing to contact the police unless you have any specific instructions…”There was a breathless silence. Then the call ended. Not with a word.Just… ended.A chill trickled down her spine
