Marcus couldn't keep still. He was so fucking happy!

Level 25! Twenty-five!

If this had happened back on Earth, he would have immediately called his friend. That bastard would have screamed louder than him.

Marcus could already imagine telling him that he'd entered another world, become a magician, and gained twenty levels overnight.

His friend would probably have asked him what kind of drugs he was taking.

Marcus burst into laughter. Then his smile faded slightly.

Damn. I actually miss

Marcus looked toward Seraphine. She was sitting up. For the first time since they'd escaped Edwin, her face looked slightly better. “The pain…” She touched her chest. “It's not as bad anymore.” Marcus blinked. Wait. It worked? Not completely, but he'd actually weakened Edwin's magic! He wanted to celebrate, but he quickly suppressed the grin spreading across his face. After all, he was supposed to be Lucien Veyr. The legendary Level 200 monster wouldn't celebrate after accomplishing something so small. “I could have removed the entire thing,” Marcus said casually. “But I got bored halfway through.” Seraphine stared at him. What? Marcus stood. “If you can walk, get up. We need to leave.” Seraphine's expression darkened. Of course. For a moment, she'd actually thought he was trying to help her because he cared. But apparently, he'd simply lost interest. Very wicked man. She pushed herself to her feet. “Fine. Let's—” A sudden pain shot through her chest. “ARGH!” S

Seraphine was beginning to lose feeling in her arms. She'd experienced terrible injuries before, but this was different. The pain in her chest came in waves, and each one left her feeling weaker than the last. She knew Lucien could be cruel. In the past, he'd rarely bothered helping his contracted demons unless he wanted something from them. He knew they were difficult to kill, and he'd used that knowledge as an excuse to treat their suffering as an inconvenience. But something strange was happening now. Lucien was kneeling beside her, carefully manipulating a magical thread near her chest. Seraphine blinked. Wait. Was that Weaver magic? She watched him concentrate, his expression unusually serious. And the longer she watched, the more uncomfortable she became. The original Lucien had never been this patient. He preferred using overwhelming magical force to solve problems. If something was difficult, he usually found a way to force it into submission, even if that meant st

She turned toward Marcus and forced a smile. “And now I'm going to die without even getting one proper kiss from you. How tragic. Give me your hand, darling.” “Shut the fuck up! This is serious!” Seraphine's smile disappeared. For some reason, his words hurt more than she'd expected. She'd been trying to make a joke, perhaps because she was frightened. But Lucien had snapped at her as though she were being stupid. What a bastard. Still, she could see that he was worried. That was unusual enough to confuse her. Seraphine raised one trembling hand and tried casting a healing spell on herself. A faint golden glow appeared around her fingers, but it disappeared almost immediately. She tried again. Nothing. “Fucking idiot,” she muttered through clenched teeth. Marcus looked at her. “What?” “Something's interfering with my magic. Every time I try to heal myself, something stops it.” Marcus stared at her chest. Interfering? That word caught his attention. If Edwin had left

Marcus had no idea where Seraphine had taken him. One moment, he'd been standing inside a damaged carriage, and the next, he was surrounded by darkness. He couldn't even see his own hands properly, and before he could figure out where the hell they were, Seraphine started shouting at him. “You sometimes behave as if you don't care about anyone, and that's stupid!” she snapped. “You're so arrogant and full of yourself! I know you don't care about people, Lucien, but I was in that fucking carriage! How could you go ahead and negotiate with the man who attacked us?” Marcus opened his mouth, then closed it again. He would have liked to defend himself, but he couldn't even see her face. And right now, getting out of this strange room seemed far more important than arguing. “Can we get out of here first?” he asked. Seraphine scoffed. “Of course. Run away from the conversation too.” Damn it! Marcus wasn't particularly fond of dark places. Back on Earth, darkness had never bothered

Back at the damaged carriage, Edwin remained frozen for several seconds. Then he slowly lowered his hands. The demon was gone. Lucien was gone. And so was the heart. Edwin stared at the empty space in front of him. Then he laughed. “HAHAHAHA!” Oh, shit. He'd been tricked! The legendary Lucien Veyr had kept him talking while his demon prepared an escape spell. And Edwin had walked straight into it. Fucking hell! He should have known better. Lucien and that cunning demon had obviously been working together from the beginning. Edwin shook his head, still laughing at his own stupidity. He'd spent so much time worrying about what Lucien might do that he'd completely overlooked the demon lying right in front of him. He had even approached her willingly and started casting a spell that required his full attention. What an idiot. If anyone at his clinic heard about this, he'd never hear the end of it. Fortunately, there was nobody around to witness his embarrassment. But the am

He turned and began walking back toward the carriage, with Marcus following behind him. Edwin was careful not to make any sudden movements. He still didn't know what Lucien was planning. One wrong move could provoke an attack, and he had no intention of discovering whether the stories about Lucien's power were true. For now, he needed to appear useful. Once Lucien trusted him, he could find a way to take the box and disappear. Marcus, on the other hand, was trying to keep his excitement under control. Three thousand mana slots were still running through his mind. Even if he eventually received only a small part of that amount, it would be far more than he currently possessed. But he had more important things to worry about. Seraphine was injured, and he still didn't know whether Edwin would genuinely help her. Please don't make me regret this, he thought in his mind. Meanwhile, Seraphine had been struggling to prepare a spell inside the damaged carriage. Her injury was painful,
