Selene hurried forward to grab Garrick's arm. They all knew Lucien, and whatever was wrong with him, he was still the last person anyone wanted to fight.

"I could have been wrong, Garrick. Don't take it too far."

"Stay away, woman!" Garrick snapped, raising his sword.

Marcus still thought it was some kind of joke. Back on Earth, he and his friends used to threaten to kill one another whenever they argued. Nobody actually meant it.

"Come on, man—"

Garrick swung.

Marcus tried to move, but he was too slow. The sword went straight into his stomach.

"ARGHH!"

He staggered backward, clutching the weapon. Blood spilled down his clothes as Garrick pulled it out, but before Marcus could even understand what had happened, the wound began closing.

Within seconds, the wound closed, leaving a scar. The pain was still there, sharp enough to make him dizzy.

Selene stared at him. So did the others.

Fuck!

Marcus's heart almost stopped. These people believed he was Level 200, and they expected him to fight like someone that powerful. Meanwhile, he didn't even know how to hold a sword properly.

If he wanted to survive the next seven days, he needed to become stronger. Much stronger. But right now, he couldn't let anyone discover how weak he was.

"You fucking fool!" Marcus snapped, pretending the injury was nothing more than an irritation. "You really want to fight me?" He turned toward Dren. "Was he drunk before coming here?"

Selene hesitated. That sounded exactly like something Lucien would say. Perhaps she had been wrong about him.

But Garrick was already furious. "I'll keep doing this until you hand over what you stole! You always think you can get away with anything!"

Marcus walked straight up to him and slapped him hard across the face.

Everyone froze.

"I did it for your own good, you idiots!" Marcus shouted.

Garrick stumbled backward, too shocked to react immediately.

"Someone take that sword away from him before he gets himself killed. Unlike me, you fools don't get to resurrect after dying!"

Dren immediately grabbed Garrick's weapon. Lucien had never seriously threatened to kill any of them before, and nobody wanted to find out whether he was bluffing.

Garrick still managed to punch Marcus in the stomach, right where the sword had entered.

Marcus clenched his teeth to stop himself from screaming.

But this was better than dying.

Something was becoming clear. These people were afraid of Lucien, but they also needed him to reveal where he had hidden the treasure.

Back on Earth, Marcus had worked in sales. He knew that whoever appeared to have the solution usually controlled the conversation.

And right now, he was the only person who supposedly knew where the treasure was.

"Where did you hide it?" Garrick demanded.

"Tell him to stop shouting," Marcus said to Selene.

She gave Garrick a warning look, and he reluctantly fell silent.

"I kept it somewhere only I know," Marcus said. "Kill me if you want. Then you'll have to wait another two weeks, and you'll still have no idea where it is."

"Why did you take it out of the Vault?" Dren demanded.

"Because none of us trusts the others. And you've just proved I was right." Marcus directed an angry look at Garrick.

The man gritted his teeth.

"I'll bring it to you in three days," Marcus continued. "Wait for me at Selene's house. I don't want to hear anything else about it until then."

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Then Garrick lowered his head slightly.

Marcus almost laughed in relief.

They actually believed that?

But before he could move, Selene suddenly raised her hand.

A glowing circle appeared beneath his feet.

"What the—"

Invisible walls rose around him, trapping him inside an area large enough to contain several of the ruined pillars.

A blue notification appeared.

[HOSTILE SPELL DETECTED]

[SPELL TYPE: BINDING]

[ESTIMATED DURATION: 30 SECONDS]

Marcus pressed his hand against the invisible barrier. It wouldn't let him through.

"Three days?" Selene asked coldly. "And what stops you from disappearing with it again?"

Marcus stared at her.

This stupid woman!

She raised her other hand, and another spell began forming between her fingers.

Marcus noticed that she hesitated before casting it. He remembered the games he used to play, where magic always came with some kind of limit.

Could it be the same here?

He watched her carefully.

The second spell struck the ground beside him, forcing him away from the barrier. Selene lowered her hand, breathing a little harder.

Interesting.

Maybe she couldn't keep throwing spells forever.

Before Marcus could test that thought, the invisible wall flickered and disappeared.

The thirty seconds were over.

Garrick immediately charged.

Marcus ducked behind a damaged pillar. Selene cursed and released another spell, sending cracks through the stone.

The pillar began collapsing.

Marcus barely escaped before the rubble crashed to the ground. He ran toward another section of the ruins, desperately trying to put some distance between himself and the others.

Dren moved to intercept him.

Fuck! This one is even faster!

But Marcus noticed that Dren always moved close before attacking. Garrick, meanwhile, was rushing toward him from the opposite direction.

Marcus waited until the last moment before throwing himself aside.

Dren's kick struck Garrick directly in the face.

Two teeth flew out.

"ARGHH! YOU IDIOT!"

Marcus watched in disbelief as the missing teeth began growing back.

What the fuck is wrong with everybody in this world?

Selene cast another spell, forcing Marcus to scramble behind a broken wall.

He had been watching her since the binding circle disappeared. Every powerful spell seemed to require more effort, and she was becoming increasingly reluctant to use them.

She couldn't have unlimited magic.

If he could make her waste a few more spells, perhaps she wouldn't be able to trap him again.

Unfortunately, Garrick and Dren were still coming for him.

From a distance, Vyrella watched the entire fight while examining her nails. She couldn't understand why Lucien's friends were stupid enough to challenge him.

Lucien had always been known as Level 200. Garrick and the others were nowhere near that powerful.

In fact, she'd never understood why someone like Lucien bothered associating with them. But that was what happened when a man made enemies as though he were collecting trophies.

Then she noticed something strange.

Lucien wasn't using any of his abilities.

Not even the poisonous storm he enjoyed summoning above his enemies whenever he wanted to show off.

Vyrella frowned and moved closer.

His clothes were soaked in blood. His face was injured, and he was struggling to avoid attacks that should have been nothing to him.

What is he doing?

Selene had apparently lost her patience. She raised both hands, gathering enough magic to finish the fight.

Vyrella's expression changed.

If Lucien died now, she would have to wait for him to resurrect before he could even attempt to fulfil his seven-day promise. And knowing that selfish bastard, there was no guarantee he would remember it afterward.

She wasn't going through another resurrection because of these idiots.

Vyrella rushed over.

One moment she was watching from the ruins. The next, she appeared directly in front of Selene.

Two weeks before Lucien's death, he had called Selene aside and handed her a sealed envelope."I'm going to die soon. Keep this safe," he said, taking another drag from his cigarette."Why are you dying this time? And what about the Vault?" Selene asked."Don't question me. And don't bother opening it. Only the person it's meant for can read it.""Then why give it to me?""Because I said so."He walked away. Selene slipped the letter into her pocket and eventually forgot about it. "My lord, something isn't right!" one of the guards shouted."I don't want to hear anything! Deal with him!" Corven snapped."My lord, the demon maiden is already claimed by another Lord! We can't even approach her!""I don't care! Move!"The guards tried again, but the closer they got to Vyrella, the harder it became to move. An invisible force pushed against them, growing stronger with every step. One of the guards staggered backward. "There's another mark beneath her chain, my lord. Someone else has already claimed her!"Marcus looked between them in confusion. What the hell was going on now? From the expressions on Corven's and Vyrella's faces, he was certain it wasn't anything good."Wonderful, Lucien. You've really outdone yourself this time." Corven shook his head in disbelief. "You sold her to another Lord? After collecting all that money from me? I want my money and every woman I gave you returned immediately, or you find a way to hand her over!"Corven stepped closer to exam
