Benjamin and Amanda rushed into the room, where a young girl lay on the hospital bed, barely in condition.
The doctors surrounding her wore grim expressions, clearly at a loss. They’d tried everything, but nothing worked.
On the other side of the bed, a tall, striking woman held the girl’s hand.
“Oh! I recognize her!” Amanda whispered urgently into Benjamin’s ear, her voice barely audible but filled with surprise.
“That’s the daughter of my dad’s friend. I know her. I thought she was the one who needed medical help. But now it looks like it’s her daughter.”
Benjamin followed Amanda’s gaze, his eyes landing on the woman in question.
Her name was Eileen Fisher, daughter of one of the wealthiest businessmen in the state.
The Fisher family was famous for their numerous businesses and their link to the state's mineral wells.
And it explained why they had Moonbloom. The rare herb only grew in the deepest parts of mines - places the Fisher family had access to like no one else.
Eileen’d been desperate to find a solution to her daughter’s condition, but nothing seemed to help.
Tears streamed down her face as she whispered a silent prayer.
She barely noticed Benjamin standing nearby, until Amanda approached her.
"How is she doing?" Amanda asked softly.
Eileen wiped her eyes, frustration boiling over.
“I have no idea. These doctors haven’t been able to tell me anything for hours!” She shot a bitter glare at the medical team.
“We are doing our best, Miss Fisher.” One of the doctors replied.
“Your best isn’t good enough! My baby’s dying!” Eileen screamed, her voice breaking.
The little girl jerked in her grip, and Eileen's gaze finally landed on Benjamin.
Her eyes, swollen and filled with tears, still carried the unmistakable presence of a woman born into power—the daughter of a business tycoon.
"You’re the one Mr. Fisher recommended?" Her voice was laced with skepticism. "The so-called man who can cure anyone?"
Disappointment was written all over her face.
"You look too young! What experience could you possibly have with something this serious?”
Amanda sighed a little and explained. "Eileen, Benjamin is a highly qualified medical professional."
"Qualified? What are his credentials? These doctors are trained professionals, and they couldn’t save her. What makes him any different?” Eileen shot back.
Benjamin stood still, letting those two women argue. He wasn’t bothered by the skepticism.
He focused on the girl, knowing she didn’t have much time.
"May I?" Benjamin asked, pulling out his medical kit. Without waiting for an answer, he set it on the cart beside the bed and began examining the girl.
He took a blood sample, inserted it into a small scanner, and waited a few moments for the results.
During the time, he checked her eyes, and then he quickly monitored her heart rate, right before he checked her tongue and fingers.
The machine beeped softly. The results on the machine confirmed his suspicion.
"She has been poisoned." Benjamin’s face hardened.
"What? " Eileen blurted out in disbelief.
"It is a rare chemical. It dissolves quickly into the blood within minutes after it’s taken. How many blood tests did the hospital run?" He replied asking her.
"A couple, but nobody ever came up with this." She replied, looking at him warily.
“I’ll bet she’s been throwing up yellowish liquids, her eyes dilate, she’s weak, and then spasms hit. Blood comes out of her nose too, right?”
Benjamin asked, his gaze fixed on the girl.
Eileen stared at him surprised. He was right—he knew all this without even looking at the medical records.
"I need to start treatment now, or she might not make it. “Benjamin said, already moving to prepare.
But just as he was about to begin, the door swung open. A tall, handsome man in a doctor’s coat walked in.
Eileen’s face lit up, and Benjamin tensed.
He knew the man. His jaw clenched as he set down his tools.
“Dr. Evans,” Eileen said, relief flooding her voice. “Thank you for coming.”
Dr. Antonio Evans grinned, walking in like he owned the place.
"I came as soon as I heard. Had to cut my vacation short in Paris." He flashed a cocky smile.
Then, his eyes landed unsurprisingly on Benjamin and his eyes widened with amusement.
“Well, well, what do we have here?” Antonio smirked. “Benjamin Moore. What a surprise! After that embarrassing exit, I didn’t expect to see you around.”
Benjamin merely rolled his eyes. He wasn’t interested in the petty jabs.
This flashy man, Antonio, had once been one of Emily’s suitors too.
Nothing brought him more joy than seeing Benjamin fail—spectacularly.
“I heard Emily announced her engagement,” Antonio said, his voice dripping with mockery.
“And surprise, surprise, it’s not you. Shocking, really. Then again, what did she ever see in a worthless loser like you?”
He smirked, clearly relishing every word.
“And what are you doing here now? Pretending to be a doctor again?”
“Don’t worry, I’ll handle this case. You can head home.”
“Of course, you can stay and watch me work. You might learn something.”
He shoved Benjamin aside and quickly examined Eileen’s daughter.
“It’s just an allergic reaction!” he declared.
Without hesitation, Antonio prepared to inject epinephrine.
Benjamin’s heart pounded. His eyes widened as he instinctively reached out to stop him.
“She’s not having an allergic reaction!” he said urgently. “Her body is already under stress—if you inject that, she’ll die!”
Antonio scoffed, his lips curling into a smirk.
“Are you questioning me?” he sneered. “Or do you just not want to see her get better? Are you all talk?”
“I trust Dr. Antonio,” Eileen interrupted, “He’s been our family doctor for years!”
Antonio shot Benjamin a smug glance before pressing the syringe into the little girl’s arm.
But the moment the epinephrine entered her system, her body convulsed.
Her breathing turned shallow, nearly stopped.

Word of the restaurant incident traveled faster than wildfire. By morning, the news had filtered through the marble corridors of the city's elite. Shared in whispers at golf courses, murmured at private dinners, and dissected in encrypted group chats that never mentioned names outright but always knew precisely whom they were discussing. Diego Rivera had been humiliated Not just bruised or threatened but publicly dismantled by a man no one recognized, and that made it was. To the uninitiated, it wasn't just a brawl between young men with too much pride. But Rhod,e who understood the game, the ones who dealt in blood-stained money and silent power. At the Rivera estate, chaos reigned behind the wrought iron gates and rose gardens. Don Antonio Rivera, the Mafia Boss of the East, was livid. His face, usually unreadable, was twisted with fury as he paced the sitting room of his private villa. Servants were dismissed. CHAPTER 28
Diego's sneer twisted into a full scowl as Benjamin took a quiet, deliberate step forward. “Teach this trash a lesson,” Diego snapped, waving a hand towards his bodyguards Two of them stepped forward without hesitation, towering figures in black suits. They looked more like small mountains than men. Expressionless, built like tanks, trained to end a confrontation in under a minute. One cracked his knuckles. The other tightened his gloves, eyes locked on Benjamin as if sizing him for a grave. The restaurant fell silent. Plates and cutleries stopped clinking. Conversations died. People leaned back in their seats, slowly, nervously trying to put distance between themselves and the incoming storm. Benjamin stood still. To the casual observer, he looked like a man resigned to his fate. His shoulders relaxed, his hands loose at his sides. But something about his stillness was unsettling. There was no fear in his eyes. No panic. Only calculations. Emily felt her breath catch in her thr
CHAPTER 27
The sharp edge in the man’s voice brought Marcus to an abrupt halt just as he began dialing.“Before you go making any decisions that might waste my precious time,” the man said, his grin widening with devilish satisfaction, “why don’t I properly introduce myself?”Marcus lowered his phone slowly, his gaze narrowing with mild curiosity and irritation. He crossed his arms, the muscles in his jaw tightening.“This should be good,” he said with a cocky smirk, the air around him thick with bravado. He wasn’t the type to be easily impressed, certainly not by some loudmouthed stranger throwing his weight around. But the man stood taller, with a smugness that oozed confidence. His presence alone was unsettling, and something about his gaze said he was used to getting what he wanted.“My name,” the man began, his voice dropping slightly in pitch, “is Diego Rivera. Son of Antonio Rivera. I’m sure you’ve heard the name.”The second the name left Diego’s mouth, Marcus felt a jolt, like ice water

The man who had been thrown to the floor staggered upright and stumbled out of the restaurant, clutching his side and muttering threats under his breath.Applause erupted around the room."That's what I'm talking about!" someone cheered.Marcus stood tall in the middle of it all, grinning like a knight fresh from battle. He turned to Emily with a self-satisfied smile that practically glowed with pride."Are you okay?" he asked, reaching for her arm and brushing imaginary dust off her shoulder. It was a gesture done more for show than out of concern.Emily nodded, still trying to piece together what had just happened. Marcus had fought for her. Her. CHAPTER 25
"But you, what did you do? The first chance you got, you put my brother in a hospital." Emily’s voice trembled with both anger and disbelief. "You are despicable, Benjamin. I don’t even want to see your face right now."Her sudden and fierce defense of Marcus caught him by surprise—but more than that, it thrilled him. Marcus’s lips curved into a smug smile as his ego inflated. He took her words as a badge of honour, convinced he had automatically won her heart."The lady has spoken," Marcus said, stepping forward with theatrical flair. "And I couldn’t have said it better myself."He gestured around them with a flourish. “Look around, Benjamin. This isn’t just any restaurant—it’s one of the finest, most prestigious establishments in the entire city. I brought my fiancée here for lunch.”He let the word fiancée hang in the air like a dagger."A man of your social class would never even dream of setting foot in here. In fact, I highly doubt you’d have made it past the entrance if Emily’s

Instead, he tilted his head slightly, lips curling into a sneer. "No, Benjamin. You’re the one still dreaming of having Emily around—still aching from the sting of her leaving you. And now that she’s finally seen you for what you are, you feel humiliated."A nerve twitched in Benjamin's jaw. He clenched his teeth and stepped forward. "I have no interest in what Emily does with her life anymore. If she believes you’re the better option, then perhaps she’s more naive than I gave her credit for," he said through gritted teeth. Before anyone could react, Emily flung the glass of water sitting beside her across the room, hitting Benjamin squarely in the chest. The entire room fell silent as the water trickled down his shirt.Benjamin paused, stunned. Then, without a word, he reached for a napkin and began patting
