Chapter Six

Grey stood still, watching everything in silence. The hall was filled with laughter and mockery. Sonia’s family members were smiling and whispering among themselves.

Mr. Bobby had just finished giving a proud speech about how he would help the Nicole family secure a business deal through his company and everyone clapped and cheered for him.

When he was done, Grey slowly stepped forward into the middle of the room, causing the noise to fade gradually.

Everyone turned toward him.

“What now?” Grandma asked with a frown.

Grey looked straight at Mr. Bobby. “You said you’re going to help this family get a deal through your company?” Grey asked plainly.

Bobby scoffed. “Is that a question? Of course. Unlike you, I’m successful. I have connections and influence. I can open doors you never even knew existed.”

Grey nodded slowly and brought out his phone from his pocket. “Unfortunately for you, I just received a different piece of information.”

He raised his phone, swiped through it, and opened an official company press release from Mul-tax Corp.

“What are you trying to say?” Mr. Bobby asked, narrowing his eyes.

Grey read out the message calmly. “As of this morning, our company has been bought out by an international investment firm. All current operations are suspended. All active staff have been relieved of their duties, including the CEO, effective immediately.”

Gasps spread across the hall. Everyone turned to look at Bobby.

He laughed it off. “That’s a lie. What nonsense are you reading? Must be some fake blog post.”

Grey tapped the screen. “It’s from the company’s official page. You can check it yourself. I’m sure you still have access, or maybe not.”

Bobby waved his hand. “Fake news. I’m still the CEO. I was just in the office yesterday.”

Grey smirked. “Then let’s make it interesting.”

Bobby raised an eyebrow. “What do you mean?”

Grey raised his voice slightly, so everyone in the room could hear. “If this news turns out to be fake, I’ll bow to you and allow myself to be slapped a hundred times right here in front of everyone.”

The hall went silent. People were shocked.

“But if it turns out to be true,” Grey continued, “you will bow to me and slap yourself a hundred times. Deal?”

People started murmuring.

Bobby looked uncomfortable for the first time. He hesitated and after a long pause, he then said. “Fine. I accept. Let’s put your lie to the test.”

One of the Nicole cousins spoke up. “Let’s call someone from the company to confirm.”

Grey handed his phone to the cousin. “The board’s direct line is already saved.”

The cousin made the call and put it on speaker. After a few seconds, the line connected.

“Hello,” a man’s voice said.

“Yes, this is the Nicole family. We want to confirm something. Has there been a change in your company ownership?”

The man answered instantly. “Yes, the company was acquired this morning by an anonymous international investment firm. All operations have been put on hold. Every department is under review, and the former CEO, Mr. Bobby has been officially removed and all his access has been revoked.” The call ended.

Gasps filled the air again as everyone turned to Mr. Bobby. Even Sonia’s mouth hung open and Grandma looked stunned.

Grey stood calmly with his arms crossed. “Well?”

Bobby’s legs weakened. He tried to speak. “There must be some mistake—”

“A deal is a deal,” Grey cut in. “You said if it’s true, you’ll bow and slap yourself one hundred times. Don’t go back on your words now.”

Bobby’s face turned pale and hot sweat appeared on his forehead.

People were already taking out their phones to record.

“Go on,” one uncle said. “Be a man of your word.”

Bobby looked around the room. Everyone stared back coldly. He slowly dropped to his knees and lowered his head. Then he raised his right hand.

Slap!

The first one sounded loudly.

Then another.

Slap! Slap!

His face reddened and his eyes turned watery.

Slap! Slap! Slap!

Whispers filled the room. Some people laughed quietly. Others filmed him openly.

Grey stood there, watching with no expression.

Mr. Bobby continued slapping himself, counting silently. Tears ran down his face.

At slap number thirty, he paused.

Even Grandma, who was now disappointed, refused to protect him. “Keep going,” she said coldly. “You agreed to it.”

Mr. Bobby resumed.

Slap! Slap! Slap!

His lips were swollen at this point and his left cheek looked purple.

The family kept watching in silence.

Slap! Slap! Slap! Slap!

By the time he reached a hundred, his arms dropped and he sat there on the floor, humiliated and feeling exhausted. The proud CEO who had once looked down on Grey was now sitting on the floor crying profusely.

Grey walked past him without looking down. He moved to a quiet corner of the room, leaned against the wall, and smiled lightly.

Everyone else stared between him and Bobby. While Sonia looked away in shame.
