Sekar squinted at the building before her eyes. Two torches flanking the large gate swayed gracefully in the wind like dancers.

“Is this really supposed to be an inn?” she asked Xiao Chen softly.

“Perhaps it was designed this way to disguise its true purpose. That way, if bandits or the like ever wanted to cause trouble, they might think twice,” Xiao Chen replied. The same doubt lingered in his mind, but he didn’t want to be overly suspicious just yet.

Xiao Chen leapt down from his horse and walked toward the gate, which was unguarded from the outside.

Before he could knock, he sensed several faint energies behind the gate. He guessed they came from guards stationed for the night. To confirm his suspicion, Xiao Chen rapped several times on the sturdy wooden gate.

Moments later, the heavy door creaked open. Two men with swords at their waists glared sharply at Xiao Chen, then shifted their gaze toward Sekar, who still sat atop he

The fireball kept chasing Xiao Chen, who ran frantically in search of the perfect position—close enough to the Northern Machete King.Within five meters of the Northern Machete King, Xiao Chen quickened his pace, then suddenly stopped and turned around. With a strong slash, he deflected the fireball, sending it straight toward the tall, burly man who, until the very last moment, was unaware that his ultimate technique would rebound against him.The redirected fireball shot swiftly toward its master. The Northern Machete King flinched for a split second before raising his flaming machete to defend himself. What he did managed to save him from being struck directly by his own ultimate move. The fireball bounced off and smashed into a large tree. But suddenly, the tall, burly man felt excruciating pain in his stomach.“You…!”The Northern Machete King’s eyes bulged wide. Xiao Chen was already in front of him, his sword driven deep

  • The Fiery Machete

The King of the Northern Machete stared at his massive blade, which still trembled even though several seconds had passed since the last clash. His confidence slowly withered when he saw that his opponent’s weapon hadn’t been affected in the slightest, even though the strike he had unleashed was immensely powerful.“Damn it! There’s no way this heirloom machete, a gift from my master, could be weaker than that young man’s sword,” he cursed inwardly. The tall, broad-shouldered man with a fierce, bearded face assumed that the internal energy he had channeled earlier wasn’t enough. So he began to flow more energy into the weapon once the vibration in his hand subsided.“Why did you suddenly stop fighting? Have you lost faith in that heirloom machete you were boasting about?” mocked Xiao Chen, sending a taunting air kiss that nearly made the King of the Northern Machete vomit.“You brat! Don’t get cocky yet! That was only a warm-up, so your

“You think we can be fooled that easily?”Sekar winced at the bandits’ mocking response to her offer. At the same time, her eyes darted around, searching for a branch and some pebbles she could use to strike them, just as Xiao Chen had once taught her.Attacking when the enemy used a hostage as a shield carried immense risk. A slight miscalculation could cost the hostage their life, and even an unexpected gust of wind might shift her aim.Still, Sekar saw one advantage—darkness. In the dim light, the snap of a flying branch would be invisible to the enemy. But her shots had to be precise, or the hostages would pay the price. The young woman took a few steps, bending down to pick up a thin branch no wider than her little finger and no longer than two hand spans. She also grabbed two small pebbles, clutching them tightly in her palm. Then she walked back to her original spot, snapping the branch into two pieces as she went. The two bandits stared in confusion, unable to understand what

  • Battle in Xingtan Village

Before they had even reached halfway through their journey, night had already fallen, accompanied by the full moon casting its silvery glow. Xiao Chen and Sekar, unable to find a village or settlement to rest in, were forced to look for any spot suitable enough to spend the night. The two of them rode their horses slowly along a path flanked by rice fields, their eyes searching for a farmer’s hut that might serve as shelter. Yet, as far as their eyes could see, there was none. At last, Xiao Chen decided to stop beneath a large tree.“Let’s rest here,” Xiao Chen said after halting his horse. The young man with the strong jawline leapt down and tied the reins of his horse to the tree trunk.“Don’t you want to get down?” asked Xiao Chen, glancing at Sekar who still sat on her horse.“Look over there!” Sekar said, her gaze fixed on a dark distant spot.Xiao Chen followed her gaze. In the distance, a dark figure resembling a man was running swiftly in their direction. Judging from his fran

  • Toward Laoshan Forest

The villager of medium build sighed once again, this time more heavily. He carefully studied Xiao Chen to make sure the young man wasn’t part of the group that had traumatized their village only a few days earlier.“First, forgive me if I seemed suspicious of you both. My name is Sun Yang, you can call me To like the other villagers do.”“I can understand your suspicion, To. My name is Xiao Chen, and this is Sekar. Actually, we came to this village to ask the way to Mount Huashan, but after seeing this house, we felt moved to help.”Sun Yang smiled warmly at Xiao Chen and Sekar. “May I ask, what kind of help do you intend to give the owner of this house? Forgive me if I seem rude, but I must confirm first, because I think this needs to be discussed with the village head.”“Are there other villagers in the same condition as the owner of this house?” Xiao Chen asked back.“Economically, yes, there are several houses as poor as this one. But mentally, only Yu Karti is suffering like this

  • Psychopath

Xiao Chen tapped his left palm with a broomstick he held in his right hand. His smile spread wide, striking fear into the mind of the thick-mustached man.On the other side, with Fan Yu’s sword already out of its owner’s grasp, Sekar once again displayed her cruelty. The beautiful girl didn’t immediately kill Fan Yu, who had intended to defile her purity, but instead inflicted countless cuts across his entire body.Fan Yu looked as if he had just bathed in blood. His whole body was drenched red, including his clothes that had turned color.“You’ve messed with the wrong person! Enjoy the slow death that’s coming to you,” Sekar said coldly as she stared at Fan Yu’s body lying on the floor. The beautiful girl looked like a psychopath, taking pleasure in the deaths of her victims.Because of the sheer number of wounds on his body, Fan Yu struggled even to groan in pain. Several of his teeth had even been knocked out after being struck by the hilt of the sword.“You’re lucky you didn’t fig
