Chapter 6

Zarek Voss stood alone in the silent ruin of what had once been Sector 7’s industrial grid. The battle with Kalen had collapsed his core structure—both physically and mentally. He’d seen things inside that trial space he couldn’t yet explain. Glimpses. Futures. Echoes of thrones built on void.

And now, something ancient was awake inside him.

Trait Active: Code Sovereign (Seeded) Thronecode Layer 1 – Unlocked

Bloodline: Azerion – Verified Lineage Connection: Fragmented / Corrupted

His fingers trembled as he stared at the new interface menu. It wasn’t like the others. It didn’t have icons or upgrade trees. It breathed. As if alive. His entire system felt more sentient, more reactive—as if it were waiting for him to issue a command beyond logic.

Warning: Accessing Thronecode Layers may trigger Sovereign Beacons. Risk Level: Zeta-Prime

He closed the warning. He didn’t need more threats—he needed clarity.

Zarek limped through the ash fields of Zone 9. His coat dragged behind him, scorched and cut. His energy reserves were dangerously low. The Sigil had entered cooldown, and his Phase Edge was barely holding cohesion.

But the quiet gave him space to think.

What did Kalen mean by “other heirs”? How many were there? How far had the System let this corruption go before losing control?

He passed by an old data-tower ruin. Its screens were dead. Its sensors blind. But something in it pulsed faintly—a flicker in the corner of his vision.

Zarek paused.

/Scan: Passive Interference Signal Detected Hidden File Structure Present – Access Locked

He approached the terminal and placed a hand on the broken interface.

Godroot Override – Manual Link Established Decrypting: 12%... 54%... Complete

The screen flickered to life.

A recording.

A woman’s face appeared.

Not human—something in her eyes shimmered wrong. Her voice was soft, clipped, mechanical but emotional.

“—to whoever survives long enough to find this: if you’re hearing me, then another Throne Heir has awakened. That means the System failed. Again.”

Static.

“We tried to contain Azerion. Failed. We tried to bury the code. Failed. Now you’re next. And this time... they’ll send the Crown Hunters.”

Message Ended

Zarek blinked. “Crown Hunters?”

Before he could think further, his interface lit up red.

System Event Triggered: Ghost Crown Beacon Detected Coordinates: Active Zone – Ravenspire Ruins Time Limit: 06:00:00

Quest Unlocked: Crown of Ghosts Objective: Reach the Beacon before other Heirs do Warning: PvP Territory Engaged

Zarek’s hands clenched.

The race had begun.

Two hours later, he stood on the outskirts of Ravenspire.

It was worse than he expected.

The ruins were crawling with rogue systems—half-sentient code beasts, failed AI nodes, and broken mechs possessed by corrupted firmware. Glitch-twisted terrain warped the laws of physics. Time looped in pulses. Voices whispered backward through the air.

He activated Static Veil, crouched low, and began his descent into the zone.

Halfway down the crater, he saw the beacon.

A pulsing pillar of blue-white energy stretching into the sky, anchored by a throne-shaped construct carved from fragmented data shards. It floated above nothing.

And he wasn’t alone.

Three figures circled it from different angles. All wearing armor unlike anything in the System’s database.

One figure stepped forward. A woman. Her skin shimmered silver, eyes completely black, veins pulsing with code.

“You’re late,” she said to Zarek. Her voice echoed in his mind. “We thought you’d be the first.”

“I didn’t know I was invited,” Zarek replied coldly.

Another figure—a massive man with spiked cybernetic arms—laughed. “We’re all invited, Sovereign. We just didn’t all survive to RSVP.”

Zarek's grip tightened on his blade.

System Alert: PvP Zone Active Rules Suspended. Death = Core Fragment Loss

Objective Updated: Claim the Beacon or Kill Other Heirs

The woman smiled. “Let’s see what kind of god you really are, glitch.”

Zarek moved first.

He activated Voidstep + Sigil Reap Prep, launching himself toward the throne while sending phantom echoes in three directions. The woman dashed after him, weaving through terrain, her movements flickering.

The brute roared and slammed into the side, collapsing a hill of broken tech with his fists.

Zarek reached the beacon’s edge and slammed his palm into the interface.

Accessing Ghost Crown... Signature Detected: Godroot – Partial Lineage Confirmed

Crown Bonding: Initiated

Pain.

It wasn’t physical. It was identity-level. Every memory, every system link, every particle of who he was was being scanned and evaluated.

Bloodline: Azerion – Fragmented Key Found

Authorization Level: Incomplete

Status: Crowned... Temporarily

The pillar dimmed.

The three Glitchborn froze.

Zarek turned.

“I own it now.”

The brute snarled. “Not for long.”

They charged.

And Zarek, newly crowned, smiled.
