Chapter 3: The Grand Horizon Auction
last update2026-09-15 13:22:33

The Grand Horizon Hotel stood as a shining beacon of wealth, its crystal chandeliers casting brilliant golden light across the polished marble lobby. Men in tailored tuxedos and women dripped in diamonds glided past security guards, laughing as they held glasses of vintage champagne.

Kaleb walked through the revolving glass doors. His clothes were still damp from the rain, and his worn jacket stood out like a stain against the surrounding opulence.

At the entrance of the main ballroom, two towering security guards stepped forward, blocking his path with crossed arms.

"Hold it right there, kid," the head guard sneered, looking down at Kaleb’s cheap shoes. "This is a private commercial auction. No bums allowed."

"I'm here to bid on The Nightshade Club," Kaleb said calmly, meeting the guard's gaze without flinching.

"You? Bid on a multi-hundred-thousand-dollar property?" The guard laughed aloud. "Look, beat it before we toss you out into the street."

Kaleb didn't argue. He pulled out his phone, opened his banking app, and held the glowing screen inches from the guard's face.

The guard’s laughter choked in his throat. His eyes bulged as he stared at the live balance displaying nearly one million dollars. His smug expression dissolved into instant panic.

"M-My apologies, sir!" the guard stammered, bowing quickly and stepping aside. "Please... right this way."

Kaleb walked into the grand auction hall, taking a quiet seat in the back row. Up on the stage, an energetic auctioneer was adjusting his microphone while high-profile investors settled into plush velvet seats.

Suddenly, a familiar, arrogant laugh echoed near the front row.

Kaleb’s eyes narrowed. Sitting at the VIP table near the front was Darian—the very politician's son who had poured wine over Kaleb's head and fired him only hours ago. Next to him sat a slick, elderly lawyer holding a briefcase.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" the auctioneer announced, tapping his gavel. "Welcome to tonight's emergency asset liquidation. Our prime item tonight is The Nightshade Club, a fully furnished two-story venue in the central district. Starting bid begins at $300,000!"

Darian raised his paddle casually, not even bothering to look around. "Four hundred thousand."

The room fell silent. Few small business owners wanted to bid against Darian, knowing his family’s political influence and underground ties.

"Four hundred thousand once... twice..." the auctioneer raised his gavel.

"Six hundred thousand," a calm, firm voice echoed from the back of the room.

The entire hall turned in unison. Darian snapped his head back, his eyes locking onto Kaleb. For a second, confusion washed over Darian’s face, followed quickly by sheer disbelief and rage.

"You?!" Darian stood up, pointing an accusatory finger at Kaleb. "How did a filthy dishwasher like you even get into this room?! Auctioneer, kick this lunatic out! He doesn't have a dime!"

The auctioneer hesitated, looking nervously toward the back.

Kaleb raised his paddle higher, his golden eyes locking onto Darian with terrifying calm. "Six hundred thousand dollars. Verify my funds if you must."

The head security guard hurried to the stage and whispered into the auctioneer's ear. The auctioneer’s eyes went wide, and he quickly nodded.

"The bid... the bid is verified!" the auctioneer announced, his voice trembling slightly. "Six hundred thousand to the gentleman in the back!"

Darian’s face flushed a deep crimson. His pride was shattered in front of the city's top investors. "Seven hundred thousand!" Darian barked, gripping his paddle tightly.

"Eight hundred thousand," Kaleb countered instantly, without a moment's hesitation.

Darian gritted his teeth. The Nightshade Club was only worth around $500,000 in its current state. Going higher was pure financial madness. But losing to a boy he had humiliated hours earlier was something his ego couldn't tolerate.

"Nine hundred thousand!" Darian screamed, his knuckles turning white.

Kaleb smiled faintly, activating his Godly Eye:

[Target: Darian Vance]

[Current Bidding Limit: Darian’s personal allowance cap for tonight is $1,000,000. Exceeding this will trigger an automated fraud flag on his father's corporate account.]

Kaleb leaned back in his chair, his voice echoing clearly across the hall:

"One million dollars."

The entire room gasped. One million dollars for a bankrupt club!

Darian stood frozen, trembling with rage. "One million two hundred thousand!" he roared, slamming his hand on the table.

The lawyer beside Darian turned pale and frantically grabbed his arm. "Mr. Darian, stop! Your father's account security will lock up if you exceed one million! The transaction won't go through!"

Darian froze, his breath catching in his throat.

The auctioneer tapped his gavel sharply. "One million dollars going once... going twice... SOLD to the gentleman in the back!"

DING!

The mechanical voice chimed in Kaleb's mind:

[Quest Completed! Business Asset Acquired: The Nightshade Club.]

[Reward: 100 XP Gained.]

[Host Level Up! Current Level: 2.]

[System Shop Unlocked!]

[Item Received: 1x Basic Vitality Elixir (Sent to Inventory).]

[Bonus: $5,000,000 Investment Fund Deposited.]

A cold, victorious smile spread across Kaleb's face as he stood up. He had secured the cure for his mother, unlocked $5 million, and forced Darian to publicly humiliate himself.

Darian marched toward Kaleb, his eyes bloodshot with fury. "You think you've won, trash? I don't care where you got that money. You won't live long enough to run that club!"

Kaleb stepped closer, staring down at Darian with glowing golden eyes that made the politician's son take an instinctual step back in fear.

"Try me, Darian," Kaleb whispered. "I dare you."Darian stood frozen as Kaleb walked past him, his heart hammering against his ribs. The cold, golden glare in Kaleb's eyes had sent a genuine shiver of fear down his spine—a feeling the politician's son had never experienced in his life.

"Mr. Darian..." the lawyer whispered nervously, pulling on his sleeve. "We should leave. People are watching."

"Shut up!" Darian snarled, shoving the lawyer away. He watched Kaleb’s back vanish into the hotel lobby, his hands shaking with unbridled rage. He pulled out his encrypted phone and dialed a contact named Viper. "I have a job for you. A street rat just crossed me. I want his limbs broken and his body dumped in the river tonight."

Unaware of Darian’s assassination order, Kaleb stepped out into the crisp night air. He slipped into an alleyway, pulled up his mental interface, and focused on his newly unlocked System Inventory.

A faint, translucent grid appeared before his eyes. In the first slot sat a small, crystalline glass vial filled with a swirling, emerald-green liquid that glowed with soft inner light.

[Item: Basic Vitality Elixir]

[Description: A mid-tier divine remedy capable of purging 100% of organic toxins, repairing cellular damage, and completely restoring failing organ functions.]

Without wasting another second, Kaleb hailed a luxury taxi using his smartphone. Within fifteen minutes, he was riding the high-speed elevator back up to the 30th floor of Central Metropolitan Hospital.

He pushed open the door to the VIP suite. The room was quiet, save for the rhythmic, weak beeping of the heart monitor. His mother, Elena, lay still beneath the crisp white sheets, her breathing pale and shallow.

Kaleb walked to her side, retrieved the glowing green vial from his inventory, and carefully unstoppered it. A fresh, soothing scent—like rain-washed pine and blooming orchids—instantly filled the room.

He gently lifted his mother’s head and poured the liquid into her mouth.

The moment the elixir touched her lips, it dissolved into a warm, radiant mist that flowed down her throat. Within seconds, a faint rosy hue returned to Elena’s pale cheeks.

BEEP... BEEP... BEEP!

The heart monitor’s slow, irregular rhythm suddenly accelerated into a strong, steady pulse.

Kaleb activated his Godly Eye:

[Target: Elena Vance]

[Status: Vitality Elixir Activated.]

[Cellular Repair: 35%... 70%... 100%.]

[Organ Toxicity: Purged.]

[Health Condition: Completely Healed. Target is now entering a deep, restorative sleep.]

Kaleb let out a long, trembling breath he felt like he had been holding for years. Tears of relief streamed down his cheeks as he gripped his mother’s warm hand. She was cured. The dark shadow of death that had hung over his family for months was finally gone.

Suddenly, his phone buzzed. A notification popped up on his screen:

Alert: Transfer completed. $5,000,000.00 USD has been credited to your investment portfolio from an offshore trust.

Kaleb wiped his eyes and smiled. He had the money, he had the system, and now he had his mother’s life back.

DING!

[System Notification:]

[New Quest Unlocked: Claim Ownership of 'The Nightshade Club'.]

[Details: The club's current manager and local gang syndicate are refusing to hand over the keys. Purge the corrupt forces within the venue to establish your operational base.]

[Reward: 200 XP + 'Martial Arts Mastery' Skill + $10,000,000 Revenue Boost.]

Kaleb’s eyes narrowed into slits of cold gold. He bent down, kissed his sleeping mother’s forehead softly, and adjusted her blanket.

"Rest well, Mom," Kaleb whispered. "I've got some trash to clean up."

He turned around, his long coat swishing behind him as he walked out of the hospital suite, ready to take over his new empire.young man in a dark coat, his hands casually resting in his pockets. Behind Kaleb, the double doors stood open, revealing the four beaten guards lying unconscious in the rain.

The music suddenly cut off as the DJ noticed the tension. The remaining staff and syndicate members inside the hall froze, their hands reaching beneath their jackets for concealed weapons.

"Who the hell are you?" Drake growled, setting his glass down hard on the glass table.

"I am Kaleb. The sole owner of The Nightshade Club," Kaleb said, stepping into the center of the room. He pulled up his phone and projected the digital property deed onto the large wall screen behind the bar. "You have five minutes to surrender the keys, hand over the financial ledgers, and vacate my property."

Drake let out a low, sinister chuckle. He stood up, smoothing his velvet suit jacket. Six heavily armed men stepped out from the VIP corridors, pulling handguns and batons from their belts, surrounding Kaleb in a wide circle.

"You think a piece of paper gives you authority in my house?" Drake sneered, pointing his cigar at Kaleb. "This club pumps millions of dollars into the Iron Viper Syndicate every month. You stepping in here is nothing short of suicide, kid. Nobody takes what belongs to us."

Kaleb looked around at the seven armed men surrounding him, his golden eyes flashing with supreme confidence.

DING!

[System Quest Triggered: Complete the Purge of The Nightshade.]

[Objective: Eliminate or subdue all 7 armed syndicate operatives.]

[Time Limit: 3 minutes.]

"Three minutes..." Kaleb murmured, a cold, sharp smile playing on his lips. "That's more than enough time."

Without waiting for Drake's men to raise their weapons, Kale

b exploded into motion, leaving behind a shadow as he rushed the nearest guard.
