Chapter 0002: Watch your mouth

Upon hearing Max's contempt filled words, Darwin gasped. “Don't tell me you guys are divorced.”

Max snorted. "We might as well be."

Darwin felt he could understand Max.

After all, no husband would enjoy watching his woman openly flirt with another man.

Meanwhile, Mirabel and Bernard walked past Max's desk with neither acknowledging him, further additional insult to injury but Max didn't care.

All he was waiting for now was for the meeting that would decide his fate.

Five minutes later, Rick Hernandez, an executive of Cavendish Inc., walked up to Max's table and loudly said. “Follow me.”

Rick was accompanied by two muscular guards who revealed their hostility the moment they laid eyes on him.

Max ignored them and instead focused on Rick. "Where are we going?"

"You'll find out when you get there." Rick icily said.

"And if I don't want to follow?"

“You don't have a choice,” Rick growled, not even bothering to hide his contempt for Max.

The reason for his hatred for Max was simply because he was jealous of him.

From being the reason for Cavendish Inc. current success to getting married to one of the most beautiful women in the city.

Why did he have to be so darn lucky?... Vincent couldn't figure out why.

"I'm quite busy at the moment, Rick, so instead of bothering me, perhaps try to focus on making something of yourself."

“Listen here, you bastard, you'd better come with me; otherwise, don't blame me for using force.”

At this point, their exchange has already drawn the attention of the other employees with most whispering among themselves.

“Oh no, it's Rick and Max again.”

“It's clear that something is wrong.”

“What do you think is going to happen now?”

Having gotten the attention of the workers, Rick smirked, as that was exactly what he wanted.

He knew what was going to happen the moment Max entered the conference hall, so before then, he wished to earn a victory over Max, humiliating him in front of those who respected him.

“Since you've decided to remain stubborn, don't blame me for taking drastic measures!” Rick remarked before gesturing for the guards standing behind him to grab Max.

Both stepped forward, cracking their fists and adjusting their shoulders, making for a rather menacing sight.

Even though they were worried about Max, most employees didn't have the guts to face the hulking security men in his stead, especially when it risked them getting into trouble with Rick due to how vindictive the bastard was.

For that reason, Max found himself alone, but he wasn't worried.

He was more than capable of handling a few fools flexing muscles in front of him.

The first one tried to grab him only for Max to easily dodge before landing a powerful blow under his jaw that knocked him out cold.

The silence that followed was deafening.

Not only the employees, but Rick, as well as the second bodyguard, were too stunned to speak.

Cracking his fist as he stared coldly at Rick, Max intoned. “Who's next?”

Frightened as he was, Rick immediately took a step back. “What are you waiting for?... Take that bastard down!”

The second bodyguard nodded but before he could get a chance to act, Max landed a powerful kick that sent him flying into a wall, knocking him out instantaneously.

Rick's jaw dropped at the sight.

“Holy shit, when did Max learn martial arts?”

“He's so darn strong!... He's like a hero or something.”

“Oh my gosh, has he always looked so cute?”

Hearing the praise sent Max's way by the employees infuriated Rick, as he realized that instead of humiliating Max, he had ended up uplifting him instead.

“You bastard, you…” Rick didn't even get a chance to finish his sentence as Max gave him a resounding slap, shutting him up instantly.

“Watch how you talk to me,” Max warned before proceeding to shove the fool aside, after which he made his way to the conference hall, leaving Rick too embarrassed to even utter a word in retort.
