Chapter 2

Leslie did not know what to say even when the word was just in her throat waiting for her to say it.

"Yes!" Leslie squealed, stretching her hands out. Seth placed the ring gently on her middle finger. He rose up and they both kissed sensually. All these while Cole watched it happen.

From his girlfriend who seemed to have been cheating on him for a while now to her getting engaged right before, he was left shattered and wronged. The pain squeezed his heart tight as he heard the crowd cheering the power couples.

"They are so perfect!"

"I am envious!"

The crowd cheered them on as they continued to kiss.

With rage, he clenched his fist and his legs moved on their own accord as he went to meet Seth. He tapped on his shoulders and Seth turned around to see who had short-lived his moment of joy. In an instance, Cole's fist jammed with Seth's jaw.

Seth fell to the floor, blood dripping from his nose.

Leslie shrieked out and Dora ran over to them.

"Get this wretched goat!" Dora yelled and Seth's guards, whom Cole never noticed were there, moved forward and before Cole could make it to the door, they caught him and began to kick him hard.

He struggled to leave their midst but Seth rose up to his feet and ordered them to stop. They did and stepped back for their boss.

Seth pulled Cole's battered body up and stared into his eyes. "What are you going to do now? I have your girl and I can say I have your life now."

Cole spat on his face and Seth laughed out maniacally. A guard moved forward to land a blow on Cole but Seth raised his hand, stopping him.

"I don't need his blood on my hand, especially blood of this poor thing, it will bring me bad luck " He said.

Blood dripped down from Cole's nose and there were little bruises on his lips and face. But the most ones were on his body which he was filling immense pain from.

Seth cleaned the spit off his face with the handkerchief a guard passed to him. He rose up to his feet, dropping Cole's body.

"You can leave." Seth said. Cole sent one last glance at Leslie before scrambling up to his feet with a muffled groan. He limped out of the place, vowing in his heart to get back at Seth for what he did.

Unbeknownst to him, Seth stood and watched him hop on his bike and zoomed off. He stretched his hand and the guard placed his phone in it.

"Where does he work, Les?" He asked her. She gulped and moved close to him. She told him where he worked and Seth placed a call to the place.

“At Bee Delivery! He is just a poor deliveryman, teach him a lesson, darling.” Leslie said. She was so excited to control a person’s fate.

“You heard that? Tell the boss of Bee Delivery, fire Cole Lancaster, I’ll pay him $10000!” Seth told his underling with a laugh.

“Yes sir, I’ll call him right away, no one could reject your order in the city!” The underling said with a flattering smile.

..

Cole drove into the parking lot and parked his bike. His heart was still wrenching from the pain he was feeling and his face looked fallen as he pulled out his key.

He ambled towards the boss office. Other men who came to drop their keys passed by him and gave him pity looks. His brows furrowed his confusion and he shrugged.

He waited as it seemed that the boss was also paying some people too. His legs shook in anticipation as he sat on the bench.

It was soon his turn and he went in. He managed to pull up a smile.

The boss turned his chair around and eyed him from head to toe then he frowned at the purple injury on Cole’s cheek.

Cole bowed his head and shook his head. The boss did not say anything.

Cole was even more puzzled at how his boss was reacting because if it was before, his boss will always commend and compliment his hard work but today… It seemed different.

"Sir, I am done. I am here for my pay." He told him.

The boss raised his brows. "I know." His reply came fast and sharp that it even had Cole's heart skipping a beat.

Why was he behaving like this? Cole thought.

Silence befell the two of them and Cole gulped hard as he awaited his pay.

Wasn't he going to get his pay? He thought.

The boss picked an envelope from one of the drawers and handed it over to him. Cole collected it with desperation but he stopped when he saw that it was just a piece of paper. He gave his boss a skeptical and confused look.

"How dare you come to our company again, Cole?” The boss sneered. Cole was confused, he didn’t know what was wrong.

The boss said, “You’re fired now, take your stuff and get away from my sight, I can’t believe I hired a trouble maker like you!”

“But…Why would you do that to me? I’m the best delivery man here!” Cole was angry, he couldn’t believe he was fired.

“Best? Our company is almost bankrupt because of you! Don’t ask me why, think about who you offended these days!”

Cole was shocked, the only person he offended was Seth, he asked, “Is that Seth? He stole my girlfriend, and now he wanted to destroy my work too?”

“Just go away, trouble maker! Or I will call the securities!”

Cole instantly fell to his knees and gripped the boss’s hands. “Sir, please… Sir… I need that money and… I will be very grateful if you can give me my pay and I will leave as gentle as I came when I got the job.” He begged, tears slowly pooling in his eyes.

He really needed that money. It was the money he planned to use to pay back the debt he had borrowed to get Leslie a gift and now… The intensity of his desperation increased and he began to plead with the boss who was already getting angry with him.

In the fit of anger, he picked his phone and called the security. “Yes, come in and carry this piece of trash out of my office!” He ordered.

“Oh, don’t forget the bike’s key! It’s our asset, don’t let that poor loser take advantage of us!” He added.

Soon two agile men walked in and carried Cole. Cole struggled against them and he bit one in his hand. Out of a few, the man slapped Cole across the face and they dropped him.

They began to kick him. He groaned and winced hard as he tried to cover his stomach or shade himself from their kicks.

“That is enough! Dump him outside the gate for me!” The boss ordered.

They gave him a curt nod and carried him outside the gate. Everyone that was around them shook their heads in pity as they watched how he was being carried out of the place.

Some men who were once Cole’s colleagues laughed and mocked him.

“Hell yes! That serves him right! What did he think he was? A King?!”

“Oh, see who is being carried out of here? The most hardworking man!”

“Pride goes before fall!”

He heard how they made jest of him and he felt helpless. Helpless to the point that it shattered his heart into pieces.

These were once the people who saluted him and they drank together after receiving their salary. But now.. they were the one who are rejoicing at his downfall.

The rain began to drizzle and yet he did not move an inch. Everyone around him began to look for where to hide but he did not. It soon turned to a heavy pour and he was totally drenched by the rain, not moving to hide under a shade.

He soon stood up and made up his mind that he wanted to drink his sorrows away. The bruises he got now red from the rain washing the blood off him.

He approached the beer parlor and ordered five bottles of beers. He paid and slumped down on one of the chairs there.

He tuned out everyone's noisy voices and began to drink to the pattering sound made by the rain. After he was done with four bottles, he rose up on his wobbly legs and soaked clothes.

One step and he staggered back. A belch escaped through his lips and he picked up his last bottle and staggered his way out of the place and back into the rain.

The rain began to stop slowly and he found himself a place in front of a hotel.

He sat down there and the bright blinding light of a car shone from afar. He used his spare hand to cover his eyes and a driver stepped out, leaving the light turned off and the inner lights off. The driver seemed to have walked farther away from the car.

He began to hear some female whimpers as if she was struggling against someone. He rose on his wobbly legs and tried to look into the car but he noticed a man in a suit, trying to take advantage of the lady who seemed somewhat drunk but was a little conscious.

Instantly, he moved closer to the car and knocked on it. The man looked up and gave him an angry frown.

"What do you want?" He asked Cole.

Cole let out a belch. "I want her." Came his drunk reply.

The man got confused.

He wanted her? What?
