"I've never heard of such case before! That only happens when you've been recruited in a top position or you've done a really good deed for the company, religiously follow it's rules, reached your limit of promotion and earned a medal. On the contrary, Felix, here, is just a newcomer that recently became a certified worker in the department. Not even our H.O.D had gotten a 'gift' from the company... I wonder what they saw in you to gift you a car, can you even fund the maintenance and care for the car? Lowlife."

Evie mouthed in a huff and rolled her eyes, returning her focus to the work on her desk. Thinking more about it will only make her throw up.

"I guess I just got real lucky," Felix said to no one in particular. But they took it to heart and glared daggers at him, each mumbling a few angry words to each other.

Felix overlooked them and focused on his work. After another nanosecond, Evie sparked up with a beaming smile on her makeup’d face.

"Guys, guys, guys have y'all heard abou

Back at the warehouse, Silas ripped open a sealed door leading to an escape tunnel. “Path clear!”“Go!” Shadow ordered. The seven of them began retreating through the tunnel, covering each other as they went.Felix looked back one last time at the chaos, the blood and the smoke. His heart was heavy as blood flowed from his thigh. He didn’t mind taking hits. He would do everything possible to protect his Elsa. They disappeared into the tunnel, leaving behind a burning warehouse and hundreds of fallen soldiers. They burst out of the back of the warehouse. Rain poured down in sheets, soaking their clothes and making the ground slick."Fuck." Felix bent over, placing his hands on his knees, trying to catch his breath. His lungs burned, his arms ached, and blood dripped from a cut near his jaw. Everyone else looked just as wrecked, groaning. Their faces were smeared with dirt, blood, and sweat."How did that bastard manage to hire top-class mercenaries, for one girl? And just to keep abus

  • 215: Got you

Something suddenly clicked in his head. He tapped his comm. “Phantom, Shadow, overhead lighting, now!”“On it.”Moments later, every light in the warehouse shut off completely and everywhere became dark.Phantom moved like a ghost in the pitch black, his night-vision goggles flickering green. Gunfire broke out but Mark’s men didn’t even know where it came from. One by one, their rifles became silent.Shadow was pure death in the dark. Every step he took was silent. You only knew he was there when you heard a body drop.Felix’s mind flashed back to the orphanage. He remembered the cold floor. He remembered the hands that shoved him. The boy who took each blow and kept counting breaths. Felix pushed that old fear into his fists and let it go. He never wanted to be that small again. He spun, ducked, and tackled a shooter who tried to attack him. Just as things were turning in their favor, a drone hummed overhead and a pale light scanned the floor. Phantom cursed. “Fuckkk. Those are dro

  • 214: was he missing something?

Gunfire exploded from above as Phantom opened fire from the rooftop, covering their flank. Shadow rolled behind a crate, pulling out his knife. Silas and Xander dove for cover, returning shots. Jake grabbed Felix by the collar and yanked him down. “MOVE!” Bullets tore through the walls, sparks flying. Mark ducked behind a pillar, laughing even as chaos erupted around him. “Welcome to my world, Felix!” Felix’s teeth clenched as he raised his gun. “Then let’s end it.” The warehouse became a war zone. He ducked behind a pillar as they fired at it, sparks flashing near his face. “Positions!” he shouted over the chaos. “Take cover and return fire!” “On it!” Xander’s voice came through. The lieutenant’s son rolled across the floor, flipping up his rifle. “Shadow, left flank!” Jake barked. Shadow was already gone. The former mercenary slipped through the smoke and vanished behind stacked barrels. Six men came running at him. He slit one’s throat in a blink of an eye, caught

  • 213: I own your eyes now

The sound of Mark’s laughter echoed across the warehouse, bouncing off the cracked walls like a nightmare that refused to die. Felix stood in place, every muscle in his body ready. Jake’s hand twitched near his gun. The others spread out, forming a loose semicircle around Mark. Something was off about Mark. He definitely wasn't the same spoilt brat he knew months ago. “Been a long time, Felix,” Mark stepped closer. “Ahhh...Who would have guessed that the Carlos' houseboy was the son of the quadrillionaire? I was so stupid to not have noticed.” Felix’s eyes darkened, clenching his fists. He didn’t like getting reminded of that. “You haven’t changed at all.” “Oh, I have.” Mark tilted his head. “You just don’t like what I’ve become.” “You mean a stalker?” Jake growled. Mark smirked. “Big words from the guard dog.” Jake’s jaw flexed, but Felix lifted a hand slightly, stopping him. Mark chuckled, his gaze sliding back to Felix. “You know, I still remember the orphanage whe

  • 212: I never left

Shadow straightened. “That’s him?” Jake didn’t blink. “It’s him.” Xander leaned forward. “You sure?” Jake nodded. “Positive. I’ve seen this bastard too many times in the footage. Same height. Same wrist mark.” The Reaper tilted his head slightly. “Where was this taken?” Jake’s fingers flew again. “EastValley city, near an old warehouse district. The cameras caught him three nights in a row, between midnight and two a.m.” “Pattern,” Shadow said simply. “Yeah,” Jake breathed. “He’s staying somewhere near there. Maybe an apartment, maybe a hideout.” The room went quiet for a second. Only the whir of the computers filled the air. Then Silas spoke. “We’ll move tonight.” Shadow hesitated. “We don’t even know what’s inside that warehouse—” Reaper gave him a cold look. “We’ll find out.” Xander cracked his knuckles, a grin flickering across his face. “It’s been a while since we stretched our legs.” Phantom looked up from his earpiece. “Already scanning the area. • 211. He was haunted...

“He’s been texting me… weird, scary stuff. He says he’s watching me. Sometimes he describes what I’m wearing, or where I am.” Felix’s hands clenched into fists on the table. “Why didn’t you tell me?!” He couldn’t believe that bastard had the guts to start stalking her again. His face went red from anger. “I didn’t want to worry you,” she said, voice cracking. “You already have so much on your plate, and I thought maybe if I just ignored him, he’d—” “Elsa!” His tone was sharp now. He tried to control it, but he was still furious underneath. “He’s stalking you. That’s not something you keep to yourself!” Her eyes stung with tears. “I know, I just—” He leaned forward, his voice low but trembling with anger. “If anything happened to you—” He stopped himself, shaking his head. “You should have told me the second he texted you. I don’t care how small you think it is. Anyone who scares you, ANYONE, becomes my problem!” The intensity in his voice made her chest ache. He cared so
