"Wh... who are you?"

The woman's voice trembled. Not just from the cold night air, but because her heart was still pounding.

"Wh... why did you help me?"

The man in front of her didn't answer right away.

Sera Caldwell swallowed hard. Her eyes swept the scene around her, and slowly, her chest tightened. Not from fear, but from disbelief.

Ten men in black lay sprawled across the wet asphalt. Some groaned softly. Some weren't moving at all. They'd gone down like dominoes, one after another, so fast that Sera hadn't even caught how this man took them out. As if those ten men had simply dropped on their own, as if some invisible hand had knocked them flat.

The man finally turned and looked at her, his expression calm.

"Just passing by," he said simply. "Saw someone about to hurt you. So I came to help."

Sera opened her mouth to say something, but suddenly a face flashed through her mind.

Uncle Caden.

"Uncle Caden!" Sera ran toward the black BMW parked at an angle not far from them, half up on the sidewalk. The windshield was cracked, a bullet hole right on the driver's side. "Please, he's hurt. We need to get him to a hospital right now!"

The man followed without a word.

They opened the driver's door. Uncle Caden, a middle-aged man with hair starting to gray at the temples, was slumped limply in his seat. The front of his shirt was soaked red.

The man knelt down and took the driver's right wrist. His fingers rested still over the pulse.

One second.

Two seconds.

His eyes narrowed slightly. Without Sera noticing, he channeled something, a subtle, invisible energy, slipping into the middle-aged man's body. Reaching every corner it could still touch.

But it was no use.

The pulse had already stopped.

The man slowly pulled his hand back, stood up, and turned to Sera.

"He's gone." His voice was quiet, but clear. "Taking him to a hospital won't change anything."

Sera stared at him.

One second, two seconds.

Then her lips began to tremble.

"Uncle... Caden..."

The tears fell before she could stop them. Uncle Caden, who had driven her everywhere since she was a little girl. Uncle Caden, who always knew when she was hungry, when she was tired, when she just needed someone to sit quietly beside her without saying a word. The only person she had left, and now he was gone too.

She was truly alone now.

But it didn't last long. Sera clenched her fists. Her nails dug into her palms, and the pain helped her think straight.

Not now. Not here.

She didn't have the luxury of crying. The Caldwell family, the only legacy left by her grandfather and her parents, who had all died under mysterious circumstances, was still standing, just waiting to be torn apart by those greedy bastards. As long as she was still on her feet, they wouldn't get a single cent.

I'll get my revenge. For Grandpa. For Mom and Dad. For Uncle Caden.

Sera wiped her tears. Then she turned to the man beside her.

"Be my bodyguard," she said bluntly. "I'll pay you whatever you want."

The man glanced at her briefly. "Not interested."

"One million dollars a month."

"Not interested."

Sera frowned. Who the hell was this guy? Offered a million dollars a month, and his expression didn't change one bit.

"Two million a month."

"Not interested."

Sera sighed. Money clearly wasn't the answer. She studied the man in front of her carefully. His clothes were shabby. His backpack was worn out, the stitching coming loose at a few corners. But the way he stood, the way he talked, the way he'd taken down ten men without any of them looking like a real threat to him...

This man was no ordinary person.

And Sera Caldwell knew one thing that a monthly paycheck couldn't buy.

"Then... be my husband."

The man turned to look at her.

"You might not need my money," Sera went on, her voice steadier now. "But you must have a family that wants connections and power. The Caldwell family has tens of trillions of dollars in assets. As long as you marry me and protect me, all of it is yours to use. Whatever you need."

The man looked at her in silence.

Then, for the first time that night, he smiled. A small, faint smile, but there was something genuinely sincere in it.

"You're really beautiful," he said. "And honestly, I like you." He paused for a moment. "If you'd offered me this three days ago, I would've said yes without a second thought."

Sera held her breath.

"But..." the man gave a light shrug, "I already have a fiancée. And I'm on my way to see her right now. So, sorry."

Silence.

Sera felt something strange in her chest. Not heartbreak, not embarrassment either. More like... disappointment.

She'd seen with her own eyes how strong this man was, and tonight was probably only one percent of what he could really do, but even that had been enough to drop ten men in a matter of seconds.

If this man were by her side...

"I see," Sera murmured.

The man suddenly reached into his jacket pocket. He pulled out a small slip of paper, neatly folded, and held it out to her.

"But if you ever really need help, call this number. I'll come."

Sera looked at the paper for a moment before taking it. "Thank you so much."

"See you around."

The man walked away. His steps were calm and long, unhurried, as if tonight was just a small stop along the way that didn't need to be marked in his memory.

Sera watched him until he disappeared around the corner.

Then she turned back to the black BMW with its cracked windshield, and the middle-aged man sitting peacefully in the driver's seat like he was just asleep.

Carefully, Sera moved Uncle Caden's body to the passenger seat, leaning him back gently, straightening his shirt collar the way Uncle Caden always straightened the collar of his suit every morning.

"I'll give you a proper funeral, Uncle Caden," she whispered.

She got into the driver's seat and started the engine.

And as the car pulled away from that wet asphalt, a single resolve hardened in her chest.

This wasn't an accident. This wasn't some random robbery.

It was obvious who was behind all of this.

The rest of the Caldwell family and the city's elite wouldn't stop until she was dead. But they'd forgotten one thing.

Sera Caldwell wasn't done yet!

"Sera."Tristan turned his head without lowering his raised hand. His voice went soft again, like someone coaxing a child away from a fire."Step back. This is the guy who wants to marry you, right?" His smile was thin. "Then please, don't get involved just yet. Let him prove he's worthy right here. If he really deserves to stand beside you, he'll make it through this."Sera opened her mouth. She wanted to say something. Maybe to refuse, maybe to warn him, but before a single word came out, her eyes met Lein's.He turned his head slightly toward her and smiled.A small, easy smile, like someone about to step out to grab some tea. His eyes said one thing very clearly: I'll be fine.Sera looked at him for a moment. Then nodded slowly. She stepped back a few paces, leaving plenty of space in the middle of the hall.Lein turned to face forward again. Ten huge men stood in a half circle in front of him, their shadows falling across the marble floor like a moving wall. He looked at them one

"You only see what's on the outside, Tristan."Sera's voice wasn't loud, but it was sharp enough to make the smile on Tristan's face slip a little."That's the only thing you ever see, and that's exactly why you'll never understand." Sera took a step to the side, standing shoulder to shoulder with Lein. "Lein is a good man. He promised to protect me. And I trust him."A moment of silence. Then Tristan laughed.Quietly at first, like someone trying to hold it in. But the longer it went on, the more it broke loose, until his shoulders were shaking and he had to press a palm to his chest to catch his breath."Protect you?" He wiped the corner of his eye with a fingertip. "*Him?*"His index finger rose, pointing at Lein without even looking."Sera, Sera, Sera. Listen to me." His tone softened again, full of fake patience. "I know the people from the other branches of the Caldwell family want your fortune. That's no secret. That's exactly why I'm here today, offering to protect you. The Ka

The front doors of the Caldwell estate were wide open. In the doorway stood a man whose presence seemed deliberately designed to fill the room. He was about 185 centimeters tall. His brown hair was slicked neatly back, not a single strand daring to stray out of place. Thin-framed glasses sat on his sharp nose, giving him a polished, intelligent look. The dark gray suit he wore wrapped his athletic build in a perfect cut, broad shoulders, slim waist, not a single wrinkle in sight. He was handsome. His smile was warm. His posture was upright and confident. In short, he looked like the kind of guy any mother would want to set her daughter up with. In his hands was a massive bouquet of white and pink roses, at least a hundred stems. Behind him stood five maids in matching, neatly pressed cream uniforms. Each one carried a velvet-wrapped gift box tied with a perfect gold ribbon. And behind those five, ten men in black suits stood in two rows. Shoulders as wide as doorways, necks as

"You don't need to cook anything," Sera said, throwing off her blanket. "Let's head downstairs. They've already made breakfast for us."Lein nodded. "Alright."They left the bedroom and went down the stairs to the ground floor. The corridors of the Caldwell estate were full of busy staff. Some were carrying laundry baskets, some were wiping down the stair railings, some were straightening vases in the corners of the hallway. All of them were working diligently. But not a single one of them greeted her.A young maid passed them at a corner. She just stepped aside, eyes fixed straight ahead, then went back to her work as if what had just walked by was nothing but a breeze. Two other maids near the living room door didn't even turn their heads. No respectful nods. No "good morning, Young Miss."Lein glanced at Sera. She walked with her back straight and her face blank, as if nothing about this was strange at all. She's not bothered, Lein thought. Or more accurately, she's too used to it

Sunlight poured in all at once. Wide and bright, it hit Sera square in the face without warning the moment the curtains were pulled aside. Sera scrunched her forehead, squeezing her eyes shut tighter before finally giving up and slowly opening them. It took a few seconds for her vision to adjust, for the shapes in the room to come into focus. The open window. Morning light slanting in. And Lein, standing there with his hand still on the curtain, looking at her with an expression that was not the least bit sorry. Sera let out a slow breath. Relief. Not because Lein was there, but because it meant everything that happened last night wasn't a dream. It was real. This man was real. And she wasn't alone anymore. But it also meant something else. Uncle Caden was really gone. Sera swallowed the feeling for a moment, let it linger, then tucked it away somewhere it wouldn't bother her until she was fully awake. "You were really out cold," Lein said, his tone light. "It's already six

Ten minutes later, the bathroom door opened.Sera turned from where she lay on the bed, half asleep, the TV remote still in her hand.Lein stood in the bathroom doorway, his hair still wet, and the only thing covering his body was a white towel wrapped low around his waist.Sera stared. And didn't stop staring right away.Because the body in front of her didn't exactly make it easy to look away.Lein's shoulders were broad but not overdone. His chest was wide and solid. His abs were cleanly defined, and not like a bodybuilder's, but like someone whose body hadn't been built in a gym, but by something far harsher than that. Not a single inch felt like too much or too little. Everything was exactly right, and perfect.Absolutely perfect.So... this guy had a body like that?Sera swallowed.Once. Silently. But it felt incredibly loud in her own throat. Her cheeks had been flushed since the very first second, and instead of getting better, they only got worse with every passing moment.Th
