“You…you want a divorce?” He stammered, unable to believe his eyes.

“Sign it quickly. I'm tired of keeping up with you,” she pushed, handing him a pen.

“Poor boy!” Ryan called out. “With my money I can have your wife and there is nothing you can do,” Ryan said, groping Katherine with his large palms and she did not resist. Anger built up in Allen as the urge to punch Ryan overwhelmed him.

“Katherine please. I promise I’ll work harder,” he begged, kneeling and grabbing her hands softly.

“Slap!” Katherine’s palm landed on his cheeks and he landed on the floor. “Work harder?” She scoffed. “You don't have the potential to become rich. You’ll die poor and alone,” she said again, kicking the package towards him.

“If you don't do what she says, I’ll make sure you regret it for the rest of your life!” Ryan warned, still holding Katherine to his embrace.

Rubbing his hands on his burning cheeks, Allen realised no amount of begging would save him so he quietly picked himself up, collected the pen and signed the document.

“You got what you wanted but mark my words, you’ll definitely come back begging and by then, you'll regret it!” Allen warned, his eyes cold and full of rage.

“You're nothing and that's all you’ll ever be!”

“I left your bags on the balcony,” Katherine said, with a laugh.

Allen stormed out in anger, taking his only belongings with him. Many thoughts ran through his mind as he contemplated on calling his only friend Jose to let him spend the night or sleep at the company he worked. He quickly dialed Jose’s number on his phone.

“Hello,” Jose picked from the other end.

“Hey, man,” he started. “I wonder if you could let me crash at your place tonight. Katherine threw me out,” he pleaded.

“I thought you said you were planning a surprise for her,” Jose asked, confused.

“She surprised me with divorce papers instead,” Allen explained.

“I’ll tell you more when I get there.”

Just then, the sound of screeching tires dragged his attention and a line of at least seven exotic cars drove towards his direction. When they got to where he was standing, they stopped and some men dressed in black rushed out of the vehicles.

His heart raced with him thinking he had committed a crime or something. “Could this day get any worse?” he muttered, bowing his head.

“I’ll..I’ll call you back man,” he told Jose, ending the call, still trying to understand what was going on.

“Greetings young master Herondale!” they chorused, bowing their heads.

“What?!” He asked, confused.

“You've got the wrong person.”

“No, you are the one we are looking for,” an old man said, walking out of the first car. He couldn't believe who he was seeing dressed in expensive clothes and riding expensive cars.

“Mr Calloway!” he called out loudly, his eyes almost popping out of their sockets. “How is this possible?”

As far as he knew, Mr Calloway was just an old frail neighbour who could barely afford to eat three square meals then how could he afford such luxury cars. These thoughts clouded Allen's mind.

“I’ll explain everything when we get to the mansion. Now, you need to hurry. Your grandmother is waiting,” the old man said.

“Mansion?”

“Grandmother?” Allen blurted out confused.

“You are the heir to a great fortune and you are needed to claim ownership of your family’s wealth but that is all I can say,” Mr Calloway explained. “Please, take this diamond ring as a homecoming gift,” he added, stretching out a box with a beautiful ring laying inside.

“You mean I’m rich?” Allen asked, partly doubting with excitement building up inside of him as he collected the ring. It was the famous Le Roux ring which costs millions of dollars. “Could it be his biological family?” He wondered, with a smile playing on his lips.

He felt like running back in to tell Katherine that he was finally rich as he couldn't contain his joy.

“What are we waiting for?”

“Let’s go,” he urged, with a wide smile on his lips, wondering how he moved from being Allen Slade to Allen Herondale in two minutes.

While driving, Allen couldn't help but admire the luxurious car. It all felt like a dream come true. He was served every kind of drink he wanted in just a short drive and they were ready to do anything he wanted as young master Herondale.

In a few minutes, they arrived at a big beautiful building and Allen couldn't believe what he saw. It had a big black gate at the front and a water fountain in the middle. The building itself screamed luxury with hyacinths draped all over it. He was still admiring it when the voices interrupted again.

“Welcome home young master Herondale!” the men in black chorused as they lined up in a perfect arrangement.

They opened the door for him like he was some sort of royalty and Allen couldn't help but feel like one.

“Where is my grandmother? Where is she?” he asked, impatiently. “There is so much I want to know.”

“Of course, young master. This way,” Mr Calloway said, leading him through a large door. The interior left him in awe. The walls were coated with gold foils and a silver chandelier hung right above his head. The right had stairs and the wall was covered with different artworks.

“These are just some samples from our art gallery. It's one of your family’s businesses and it will be yours very soon,” Mr Calloway said and a smile crept to Allen’s lips.

Allen continued to follow Mr Calloway happily and he led him to another room. The room had luxury and vintage written all over it like it popped out of a seventeenth century castle. An old woman sat there as maids tended to her needs. Immediately she saw him, her eyes brightened like her strength had been renewed.

“My grandson,” Madam Ophelia called out with her frail voice, gesturing for Allen to come closer. Her fingers caressed his face gently. “I'm sorry it took so long to find you. It's all thanks to Mr Calloway.”

“I have so many questions,” Allen finally spoke. “I want to know about my family.

“Who is Mr Calloway?”

Michael slipped his phone out of his pocket as he dialed a familiar number. "I tried to ask him nicely but he refused. It's time for plan B," he spoke into the phone. He walked through the offices as he finally arrived at the one he was headed to. The words, Attorney Smith were boldly inscribed on the door. After he knocked on the door, a clear voice told him to come inside. As he flung the door open, an elderly man sat, writing seriously on some papers. "You asked to see me, Mr Herondale," the man started. "Concerning your grandmother's will." Michael nodded, then made his way to the nearest chair. "I really need to see the will. It's urgent." "Are you sure she gave permission for that?" the attorney asked to be sure. "Y...yes she did," Michael stammered. "I had even asked my adopted brother," he lied. The attorney looked at him through the upper part of his glasses for what seemed to be an eternity then walked into another room. Michael tiptoed quietly behind him wat

"As much as I want to spend it with you, I also know you didn't hurt Madam," Jose blurted, quickening his steps, a discerning look on his face. "No one would believe me now. Allen has already made up his mind," Olivia responded, the wine tasting bitter in her mouth even though it was made with grapes and other sweet things. "Running would mean I'm guilty so I can't do that either." Jose stared at the floor for what seemed like an eternity, then back at Olivia who looked like she had already given up. "Then fight! Prove that you're innocent. I'll help you, I promise," Jose said staring at her pitifully. Olivia couldn't even look at Jose. Guilt overwhelmed her. Even after how bad she had treated him in the past, he still wanted to help her? "I can't receive help from you. I don't deserve it, really," Olivia muttered. Before Jose could respond, policemen barged through the doors with Tony trailing helplessly behind them. "There was nothing I could do ma'am," he spoke, pantin

With tear-filled eyes, Olivia watched Allen storm out angrily. The tears rolled down her cheeks vigorously. "Miss Olivia, this would be all for today. You're free to go home," the officer's voice rang in her ears. "But, it's not over yet. If there's strong evidence, you'll be charged." She looked at the officer, nodded her head then stormed out, hoping she still had a chance to make Allen forgive her. The minute she stepped outside the building, she saw Allen's car at a distance. He was gone. Her knees weakened as she got lost in her thoughts. She was still sobbing when Michael's voice shot through the air. "I'd say instead of crying over a man, use your freedom well because you'll be behind bars soon," Michael said with a laugh. Olivia's eyes burned with rage. The tears immediately dried up. "What did you do?" she blurted, slamming her hands on his chest. "Do you really want to ruin my life?" Michael said nothing, only releasing annoying laughs that fueled her anger.

  • CHAPTER 37: Olivia's Arrest

Olivia sat in Hayfield manor, eating lunch while trying to fix some office work. She had planned to visit the hospital again, to see Madam Ophelia. "Ma'am, someone's out here making a fuss. He came with the police," Tony said, barging in. Olivia quickly dropped what she was doing, her eyes red with fury as they bored into Tony. "Police? For what? You're disturbing me, Tony. Papa is in Germany. The work is on me. Let me work!" "But ma'am, I'm not kidding," Tony said again. Olivia sheepishly yanked the curtain open to have a peek at what was happening outside. Tony wasn't wrong. About five policemen had established themselves outside. But wait, she saw a familiar face. No way! "Fucking H Michael!" She muttered. She had known Michael as a child. In fact, they used to be friends until she rejected his love proposal. Had he come for revenge or what? She remembered that day, under the shimmering lights of the Herondale manor. She had gone to visit Madam Ophelia as usua

  • CHAPTER 36: Poison

Allen had just dropped Olivia home. They waited for the doctor's report the whole day but were told it would be ready the next morning. He reached the Herondale manor in no time and as he entered the first person his gaze landed on was Michael. Not wanting to strike up a conversation, Allen greeted and walked past him. "Just like that? Brother?" Michael blurted out. "Come on, that's too formal." Allen scoffed. "You were the one trying to fight me some days back but here you are today wanting formalities," Allen responded. "Spare me the crap!" "Oh, that's what this is about," Michael said with a smile. "Well, I heard about the doctor's reports," he added. "Did they mention what type of substances?" Allen paused, his feet suddenly glued to the ground. "You didn't come to the hospital today. You didn't even ask about Grandma but all you care about is what kind of substance!" Allen raged. That seemed to be the only thing Michael cared about. "Chill, man," Michael spoke. "

  • CHAPTER 35: Black-eyed Katherine

His heartbeat quickened. "What did you say happened to Grandma?" Allen asked again, to be sure he heard well. "The doctor requested to see you. It seems he discovered something," Calloway informed him, calmly this time. Allen sighed. Morning didn't come fast. He needed answers about her condition. "What about Michael. Have you noticed anything suspicious?" Allen asked, his breathing rough."I haven't noticed anything. He's barely at home," Calloway explained. After their conversation, Allen made his way to his room. His mind wasn't at peace. He tried to sleep but he just couldn't shake the thoughts off. Soon, it was morning. He hurriedly made his way to the hospital. He stood outside the ward, staring at his grandma through the glass door. "Eh-ehm," a throat cleared behind him. He turned to see the doctor behind him. Immediately, his breathing slowed. "I heard you asked to see me, Doctor," Allen finally spoke. The doctor let out a deep sigh. "Yes I did. We've discovered somet
