Chapter 17: Enzogrande's takeover
last update2025-09-04 00:03:21

The next morning, Ethan found himself standing before the towering glass structure of Enzogrande Corporation, its mirrored walls reflecting the sun like a fortress of wealth and influence.

The name “Enzogrande” gleamed in silver above the entrance, a reminder that this place was not just a company—it was a citadel of power, and only those who belonged at the very top dared to step inside.

Today was the day the transfer of ownership would be finalized. Today, Ethan would sign the documents that would grant him control over one of the largest corporations in the city.

It was also the day the Robbins family’s fate would tilt in an entirely new direction, though none of them had the faintest idea of what was about to unfold.

Ethan exhaled deeply, and steadied his breath. To the casual eye, he looked calm and collected, but he knew better—this was only the beginning of a storm that would sweep across not just his life, but Emma’s, Chloe’s, and everyone entangled in their bitter struggle.

He had just taken his first step toward the entrance when a sharp, mocking voice pierced the air.

“Well, well, if it isn’t the ex-convict himself.”

Ethan turned. Loretta stood a few feet away, dressed in a fitted blazer and pencil skirt that screamed confidence, though her smirk carried nothing but disdain. She crossed her arms, her eyes scanning him up and down as if he were a beggar who had wandered too close to luxury.

“What are you doing here, Ethan?” she asked, her tone dripping with mockery. “Don’t tell me—you’re applying for a job as a cleaner? Or maybe a security guard? That would make sense. At least then you could sneak Emma some favors, right?”

Her words stung, but Ethan remained silent, his gaze steady. In the short time he had got to know Loretta, he was already used to her biting tongue, though today, of all days, her timing was particularly unwelcome.

“You think walking in here will change anything?” Loretta pressed on, stepping closer. “This place isn’t for people like you. It’s for winners. For people who know how to play the game. You and Emma? You’re just—”

“Enough, Loretta,” Ethan finally said, his voice low but firm. “You’ll regret underestimating us.”

She blinked, surprised for a moment at his calm defiance, but quickly recovered with a laugh. “Regret? Please. The only regret here is you wasting your morning. I’ll make sure you don’t even get through the front desk.”

As their exchange heated, the commotion drew the attention of the head of security, a broad-shouldered man in his late thirties, wearing a pressed uniform and an air of self-importance.

“What seems to be the problem here, Miss?” the security head asked, his eyes flicking briefly to Ethan before settling on Loretta, a hint of admiration shining in them.

Loretta gave a dramatic sigh, playing her part. “Oh, nothing serious. Just some… nobody trying to get in where he doesn’t belong. Honestly, I think he’s here looking for work. Cleaner, janitor, maybe? I told him this isn’t the place for him, but he won’t listen.”

The head of security sneered at Ethan, seizing the opportunity to impress Loretta. “Don’t worry, miss. I’ll take care of this.”

He turned to Ethan, his tone sharp. “You heard the lady. People like you have no business loitering around here. Go on, move along before I make you.”

Ethan met his glare but didn’t budge. “I’m here on official business,” he said calmly.

The security man barked a laugh. “Official business? What, polishing the floors? Don’t make me laugh. Move!” He gave Ethan a shove.

Loretta smirked, clearly enjoying the spectacle. “See? Even the staff know your place. I’ll be inside, Ethan. When I come back out, maybe you’ll have realized reality.”

With that, she tossed her hair, gave the head of security a flirty smile, and walked through the revolving doors into the building. The man’s chest puffed with pride at her attention.

“Don’t worry, miss,” he called after her. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t bother you again.”

Ethan’s patience wore thin. This was no ordinary inconvenience; today was too important to be stalled by petty insults and arrogant men. Without another word, he pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

“Jules Thunder,” he said once the line connected, his voice still calm. “Send your PA outside. There’s a situation that needs handling.”

Minutes later, the glass doors opened again. A young man in a tailored suit strode out briskly—Jules Thunder’s personal assistant. His expression was professional, but when he saw Ethan standing there with the security chief barking insults at him, his eyes darkened with outrage.

“What is going on here?” the PA demanded.

The security chief gave a dismissive snort. “This guy was loitering around, disturbing Miss Loretta. I was about to throw him off the premises.”

The PA froze for half a second, then suddenly exploded. His hand cracked sharply across the security chief’s face with a slap so fierce it echoed off the marble walls.

“You dare!” the PA thundered, his voice filled with fury. Another slap followed, and another, each one sharper than the last. The man staggered, clutching his cheek, his confidence shattered.

“This man,” the PA barked, pointing at Ethan, “is here by direct authority. Do you have any idea who you just insulted? Who you dared to lay your filthy hands on?”

The security chief stammered, his earlier arrogance gone. “I… I didn’t… I thought—”

“Thought?” the PA snapped, his eyes blazing. “You’re not paid to think. You’re paid to know your place. And your place is no longer here.” He jabbed a finger toward the street. “You’re fired. Right now. Get out before I call the police to escort you out like the garbage you are.”

The man’s face flushed with embarrassment. He looked desperately toward the building, as though Loretta might emerge to save him, but she was long gone inside, oblivious to his downfall. Shoulders slumped, he muttered something incoherent and stumbled away, humiliated.

The PA turned back to Ethan immediately, his demeanor shifting to one of deep respect. He bowed slightly. “Mr. Ethan, please forgive this foolishness. I’ll personally escort you inside.”

Ethan gave a small nod, though his expression remained unreadable. “Thank you. Let’s not waste any more time.”

Loretta’s eyes widened first, then narrowed in suspicion. Titus clenched his fists in frustration while Chloe, desperate to salvage her pride, rushed forward.“Ethan!” Titus barked, his voice trembling with anger and humiliation. “Did you… did you go behind our backs? Did you bad-mouth us to the company? Because that’s the only reasonable explanation for the kind of insult that we received today!”Chloe quickly added, her tone sharp and accusatory. “Yes! There’s no other reason why the CEO’s PA would dare humiliate us like this. What did you say about us, Ethan?”Ethan stopped in his tracks and slowly turned to face them, his eyes carrying a sharp glint that made them uneasy.“I don’t have time for your nonsense,” he said coolly. “Don’t drag me into your failures. Titus remained frozen and speechless with his cheek still stinging from the slap that still echoed in his ears. For a man who had always been treated like royalty, someone whose word alone commanded respect, this was humiliation of the highest order. His mouth hung open as he tried to recover his dignity, but the eyes of the staff in the lobby burned into him like arrows. Whispers rippled across the room. Employees were covering their mouths to hide their laughter, their eyes wide with amusement at seeing the once-arrogant heir reduced to nothing more than a clown.“You dare slap me?” Titus finally shouted, clutching his cheek with one hand. His voice trembled with rage, but the confidence he usually carried was gone. “Do you even know who I am? My family controls—”The PA didn’t let him finish. His hand lifted again, his expression unreadable, almost bored. The sharp motion alone was enough to make Titus flinch backward like a frightened child. His knees buckled as he stumbled, nar

Jules Thunder, the acting CEO, stood respectfully as Ethan entered, documents neatly arranged on the table. Several senior executives were present, their faces full of curiosity, some even disbelief. To them, Ethan looked nothing like the kind of man who should be sitting at the helm of such a prestigious company. He wore no tailored suit, no silk tie—just his quiet confidence and the kind of authority that didn’t need embellishment. One by one, the pages were turned and signed. The sound of the pen gliding across paper carried more weight than any gavel. By the time the last signature was placed, the empire of Enzogrande had officially shifted. A once-impossible reality had become fact.Ethan closed the folder, his gaze steady on Jules Thunder.“There are two immediate instructions I want carried out,” he said, his voice calm but carryi

“I’ll go,” Chloe declared, her voice brimming with confidence. She didn’t raise it, but there was such a certainty in her tone that it instantly drew all eyes to her, one hand folded neatly over the other, like a queen bestowing her presence upon her subjects. “I’ll finalize the Enzogrande deal on behalf of the Robbins family.”A low murmur passed through the room, followed by eager nods. The Fisher family’s influence stretched through the upper corridors of business and finance, and Titus himself had a reputation for his expansive circle of friends within Enzogrande Corporation. “I’ll not stand here and allow this man humiliate the apprentice,” the family doctor intervened as his eyes swept across the gathered relatives. “Whether you like it or not, this apprentice is your only bridge to the Grand Physician. If you offend him because of this one time lucky pauper, then you can forget any chance of the Grand Physician ever coming to save the patriarch.”The room grew still. The weight of the warning settled heavily on every face. No one dared speak against it because they needed the Grand Physician to perfect whatever it was that Ethan had done to their Grandfather.“You don’t need him to reach the Grand Physician. I can do that myself. If you’ll only listen, I can make it happen.” Ethan said. The family’s heads turned toward him in unison, but instead of gratitude, what reflected in their eyes was hostility—thinly veiled disgust.Leif let out a sharp, bitter laugh. “You? Do you even hear yourself, Ethan? You—a man with no name, no status, no place in this fam
