Exhaustion

Exhaustion weighed on me as I finished the arduous task of cleaning every room in one of the first level cadet blocks. My body ached, and my health suffered from the exertion. I was completely covered in dust, my gray clothes had turned a dingy shade of brown. I urgently needed to take a shower and leave the other rooms for tomorrow, as the second level cadets would be arriving in a few hours and I did not want them to see me in that state.

However, as I made my way to my quarters, I spotted two lieutenants engaged in a heated conversation. Noticing the absence of cameras in the place, I sensed that they were secretly conspiring. Despite my exhaustion and desire to bathe and rest, I decided to poke around a bit, but to my surprise, they were gone. It was strange, the place where they were located had no visible doors. Perhaps there was a secret entrance in that corridor, but investigating it was risky. I opted to continue towards my destination, but I memorized the location of that block of rooms of the first level cadets.

I continued on my way as if nothing had happened, but as I passed the airstrip I ran into my classmates, who seemed excited about something they had done. They were all perplexed to see me in such a deplorable state. John, one of them, did not hesitate to address me.

"Have you rolled in the sand? Take a bath, you smell awful!"

I didn't care what he said to me, I tried to ignore him, but he tugged at my shirt.

"I'm talking to you, stupid."

I replied just as rudely.

"I don't talk to assholes."

"You're a bold, fucking commoner."

At that moment, a second-level cadet stepped in, with his black hair and piercing green eyes. He was tall and muscular.

"Calm down, both of you. Don't make me angry."

"Stop it! Scott, I was just showing this cheater his place. I hope you stay on as an employee of this place."

Although I was still furious about what had happened to me, I didn't care. John wasn't important in my life and his words didn't affect me. I had other things to think about. Surprisingly, Lucia stayed and made her way over to me regardless of what anyone else thought.

"Cadet, you missed a presentation about the upcoming trips that are coming up. When you've showered, look for me in the cafeteria."

It was unbelievable. She spoke earnestly, never batting an eyelash. John was furious when he heard that and followed her to complain. I just went to take a shower and meet Lucia.

When I went there I noticed that the place was lonely as if everyone had already bathed. It was for the best, it was stressing me out to be among so many people and hear those sounds of discussion and bad comments like the ones from a while ago.

I just went to take a shower and noticed that the dust and sand had invaded my body, although I tried to avoid getting full of it. The water was a bit cold, I wanted to get out of there right away. I started to freeze.

I turned off the faucet and put a towel over me. However, when I got out I was confronted by some quasi-professional pilots from the academy, it was rather awkward. I was insignificant in front of them.

I pretended that everything was fine and that I didn't care what they did. However, I noticed that one of them was injured, maybe they had an accident. I didn't lose my concentration looking at them and continued my activities.

[...]

An hour later, I was ready with a new uniform and all traces of sand had been removed from my body. Arriving at the cafeteria, I noticed that there were few people, as it was almost dark and the excitement of the day had dissipated. I moved forward among the tables, looking for Lucia, but I couldn't find her. Perhaps she had not arrived or had regretted helping me. I considered turning back, but at that moment she called out to me.

"Cadet Nick, over here."

I turned and saw her with other second-level cadets. Noticing my presence, they quickly got up and left the table. I felt a strange awkwardness, as if they were all avoiding me.

I approached Lucia and sat down across from her, in one of the unoccupied chairs.

"Cadet Nick, here is a report with all the topics that were covered in your absence and what will be addressed this week. You need to catch up, in two weeks there will be flight tests and the best pilots will be selected to represent the academy."

I received the report, a manual and a law book, and noticed that they totaled almost a hundred pages. They were lengthy and concise.

"This is too much. I'm grounded, I can't go through all this."

"Cadet Nick, you must read it all and prepare. If you can't, you'll be expelled. Second level cadets are supposed to be the best students and have passed numerous tests. Prove that they were not wrong to promote your rank."

It was shocking to see her speak with such seriousness and authority, but that was the way protocol worked in that place. I didn't know how to ask her to help me find out who were the people responsible for the death of my father and brother.

I noticed that Lucia was holding a pen in her hand, and I signaled for her to lend it to me. She understood my message and handed it to me.

I wrote on a piece of paper that I needed to ask her for a favor.

Lucia read it silently. She wrote that next week we could talk about it. I had many pending tasks, it was a punishment for having spoken loudly to the general.

When I read it, I tore the sheet to prevent anyone else from accidentally reading what I had written.

"Well, Cadet, Nick, see you later."

"See you later."

I stood alone at that table and tried to read every single page of those books. I wanted to know what subjects I should study, but I soon got bored. Everything was very basic and there were concepts I already knew, so I would have no problem with that. However, the rules of the academy and the laws of the country required more attention. I started reading the rule book and the only thing that interested me were the grounds for expulsion. I wanted to avoid being expelled without having done justice. There were so many articles that could lead to my expulsion that I began to feel some fear. I had committed several offenses, such as going to the infirmary at unpermitted times and going out without permission. Lucia was also long overdue for expulsion, as she hacked into the communication system and performed indecent acts there, in addition to breaking other rules. However, it seemed that her faults and mine had been overlooked until now.

As I continued reading, I felt a presence beside me. It was Scott, the second level cadet, who had defended me earlier. He sat down next to me and sighed.

"Nick, I know things have been difficult for you since you got here. But you must understand that rules are important at this academy. We all have to abide by them. I heard what you did, I think it would be wrong for you to be expelled from the academy."

I nodded, understanding his words. Although I had committed some faults, I did not want to be expelled. I had a mission to accomplish, a search for the truth that I could not abandon.

I looked at Scott with gratitude for his support and words of encouragement. Although I was aware of my mistakes, his support gave me hope that I could make amends for my actions and prove my worth at the academy.

"Scott, I appreciate your concern and advice," I replied sincerely. "I know the rules are important and I am willing to learn from my mistakes. I don't want my past to define me, nor do I want my past actions to keep me from moving forward. I have a mission to accomplish here, and I will do my best to abide by the rules and prove that I can be a valuable member of this academy."

Scott nodded with a comforting smile. "That's what I was hoping to hear, Nick. We all make mistakes, but the important thing is to learn from them and move on. I'm here to help you with whatever you need. If you have any questions or need guidance, don't hesitate to ask me for help."

I appreciated her offer and we continued to talk about the rules and regulations of the academy. I was a little surprised that no, he was not a leader like Lucia, they were certainly similar and helped the other cadets. I wished they would take that position away from Jhon and give it to him. It was the most together thing for everyone.

  • Doubts

The tension in the atmosphere was palpable as the afternoon hours gave way to the eagerly awaited competitions. Without warning, a disconcerting surprise awaited the participants: the use of external ships was forbidden, and the organizing company itself imposed its own equipment. A feeling of equality gripped everyone at that moment, but also a sense of strangeness in the face of the unexpected. For so long we had dominated our own ships, and now we had to adapt to these new imposed conditions. The sudden and drastic change generated a frenzy among the competitors, who rushed to discover the model and characteristics of the assigned ships in the hope of finding some advantage in this unfamiliar situation. However, Guillermo, one of my companions, seemed oblivious to these concerns. He seemed exhausted by the trip and was only dedicated to carefully examining the track we had to travel.Meanwhile, my other three companions and I took refuge in the cafeteria, waiting for the crucial mo

  • Resentment

Two long and grueling weeks of intense practice passed at the academy. Sadly, some of the first level cadets decided to drop out, while five others chose to run away. The news shook me to my core, and in my heart I knew exactly what had happened. It seemed that many did not care what happened to their lives, regardless of the consequences. The lies and manipulations of the academy were heartbreaking, hiding the true reality of what was happening. In spite of everything, I felt a momentary relief at having shared that intimate encounter with Lucia, for it had triggered an opportunity to escape from this place. Unbeknownst to me, she had become one of the academy's targets because of her beauty, but I had to concentrate on the impending intergalactic games and leave behind everything that was going on around me.My relationship with the team improved a bit more, they now saw me as a valued and respected member. Although inside, I still felt some fear, especially because of the daring an

The next day, I met with my four companions for a tour. We had to ask permission, the ships were the same ones I brought a month ago. It would just be a practice run on that new model. I felt quite uncomfortable that this new group of people, only Guillermo wanted me in the group. The rest of them looked down on me, as if I was a nuisance.I tried to hide my discomfort for the bad treatment and walked along with them. Until we got to the track. There was another group of people who were already starting their practices and ignored our presence.Guillermo didn't care and climbed into a ship himself and turned it on. He expected us to do the same, so each of us climbed into a different ship and ascended into the sky to begin our practice. We climbed to over 1000 feet and the ships began to feel the gravity of the earth. There I heard the voice of one of my companions."We are going to fly in this direction. Activate the thrusters. We're going to fly this area first and then the stratosp

The atmosphere was quite tense. A shiver ran down my spine as I imagined the consequences of their unfounded accusations, but one of them responded."Uh... no, it's okay, we were just talking to this reckless cadet."I was a little scared to hear that. If they wanted, they could accuse me of anything."Ok, if anything happens to them, call me."When Arturo left, one of them made a rather derogatory comment about me."I see you, and I really don't know how you convinced Lucia, if she was such a serious and dedicated girl."I felt a mixture of bewilderment and frustration at that statement, was I that bad physically for her to make that comment to me? I knew I wasn't very attractive, but I didn't expect to hear that comment either.I tried to keep my composure and responded with a feigned smile."Well, I have my charms." Although I was trying to stand my ground, I knew my position was compromised. Those words only added to the hostility emanating from them."Do you have Lucia's number?"

  • Return

With a mixture of hatred and some concern, I prepared to return to the academy. I knew that the vengeance that once consumed me had changed a bit. I just needed some information to rat them out with Chloe's help. Before leaving, I approached my sisters and explained that I would see them again on vacation, their names were Angie and Valeria. The older one was the first of her."Maybe in the middle of the year, we'll see each other again, and at the end of the year I stayed for Christmas with you." Are you sure you want to come back to the academy? After what happened last time, mom said you suffered an accident, "Valeria, the youngest one, commented."I understand your worries, but I have to do it, my dream is to be a pilot.""But what if something goes wrong again? Mom said you lost two fingers" Angie asked me.I kind of resented hearing her say that. I felt kind of weird answering her that. "I know it's kind of dangerous. I promise to take all the necessary precautions and I will

  • Reflection

I arrived in a port city, in a rather strange hotel. There were a lot of robots here, more than at the academy. It was an imposing place with huge buildings with advertisement screens and a lot of traffic, however, I wasn't here to visit that place, I was just there to rest.I just lay down on the bed and tried to think clearly about what I would do. Everything had changed for me in a week, I no longer had anyone I trusted at the academy, and I don't know what I could do. Slowly, I began to lose interest in my revenge; however, Chloe brought me a surprise. She knocked on my room and when she opened it there were two younger girls. They both looked like Miguel, but were no older than 12."Is he my brother?" one of them asked."Yes."It was a strange moment for me, I didn't know what to say to her, she didn't tell me any of this. I ended up being hugged by them."But how? If they are younger than me?"Your father went crazy after he lost his first son. He tried to replace him and did

  • Chloe

I stayed all night in the infirmary, I had trouble walking, and I was afraid to get out of there and get beaten up again. However, from one moment to the next, the woman I saw at the station appeared from one moment to the next."They left you pretty bad.""You...""I arrived a few hours ago, and it was a problem for them to let me through.""......""First tell me what the hero Harrison was, for you, that way I can help you."I was afraid to tell him the truth, but if I stayed here it would be worse, I had no other way out."I uh... I'm his son"."There, that's what I was hoping to hear. You took too long to say it, I'm Chloe a former partner of your father, I advised him when the war was over, and he had nothing to do, and he was getting into trouble. He almost damaged his image. I see you're just as crazy.""Ah...you know what happened... That's ....""They already told me everything, you don't have to explain anything to me, it's young people's stuff.""Why did you come?""Why did

  • Hate

I woke up the next day, a bit sad, I remembered that Lucia had left yesterday, and I would never see her again. I felt miserable about what had happened.I had to get up again and get ready to continue with my activities in this academy. After the suspension was over. However, as I was walking out of there, Scott showed up, he was quite upset. He came over to where I was and complained to me about what happened."I warned you, and look how it turned out. Now everyone hates you for what happened.""I'm sorry, but Lucia wanted to leave, the general wanted to expel me, but she chose to leave.""You're a liar, she wouldn't leave. Avoid talking to me from now on"He was quite affected by what happened, I preferred not to answer so as not to argue with him, however, he referred to me again."You're an asshole! You're going to live through hell from now on and you're like you didn't do anything!""You can ask the general what Lucia said about what happened. She just used me to satisfy her de

  • Humiliation

When we got back to the academy I felt a bit sick, the change of atmosphere was bad for my health, it was like going from a cold place to a hot place, but that wasn't the worst of it. The weather was very annoying, I felt a bit suffocated. The lieutenant before he left came up to us."Lucia and Nick, the general requests you, both of you, go immediately to the office."When I heard that, I knew they already knew. Arturo may have already figured it all out and tried to intervene when he saw the way we were called."Lieutenant, you can't do that, these are two important cadets for .......""They are cadets who broke the rules, and she is the leader of all of you. They had relations with cadet every day. Acts like these and relationships are forbidden because of the problems they create, even if they are of age."We silently made our way to the general's office. As we walked to the general's office, I felt a knot in my stomach. I knew we were in trouble, and the fact that the lieutenant
