The instant the liquid slid down Austin's throat, a fiery heat exploded in his stomach.
Before he could even put the empty vial down, that warmth rushed into his limbs and bones like a flood.
"Ugh..." Austin groaned softly, gripping the edge of the desk as his muscles began to tighten and expand.
Soft popping sounds echoed from inside his body as his bones grew denser and stronger, repairing all the years of malnourishment and exhaustion in seconds.
At the same time, a sticky, foul-smelling black substance began oozing out of every pore on his skin.
In less than a minute, the heat faded away, leaving Austin covered from head to toe in a layer of dark grime.
Catching a whiff of the terrible stench coming off his clothes, Austin pinched his nose and frowned deeply.
"What the heck is this smell..."
Having no other choice, he quickly looked around the office and spotted a bathroom.
Without hesitation, Austin hurried inside.
Ten minutes later, Austin stepped out of the bathroom feeling rather refreshed. He could feel the chnage in his body.
If he ran into Declan again right now, he wouldn't need to use any fancy tricks to twist the man's wrist. One punch would be enough to send the guy flying!
Just as he was thinking about heading home to get some rest, the mechanical voice echoed in his head once more.
[Ding! New task issued.]
"Host, please spend Ten Million within the time limit."
The next second, his cracked phone on the desk lit up as ten million dollars was credited into his account.
Austin walked over and picked up the phone, expecting to see the countdown timer reset to twenty-four hours.
However, the moment he looked at the red numbers at the top of the screen, his eyes widened in surprise.
Instead of twenty-four hours, the timer showed twenty-eight hours and forty minutes!
Austin blinked, staring at the numbers before realization finally clicked in his mind.
"Wait a minute... the four hours and forty minutes I had left from the last mission didn't disappear?"
They were actually added directly onto the new time limit!
Realizing this, Austin's eyes instantly lit up.
That meant the faster he finished spending the system's money, the more leftover time he could stack up for future tasks!
If he kept clearing missions ahead of schedule, he wouldn't have to panic about running out of time like he did this evening.
Thinking like this, Austin didn't want to wait until tomorrow to start spending the ten million.
Since he had just bought this company, there had to be plenty of places right here that needed money!
Sitting down behind the large desk, Austin took the landline and called the assistant.
Less than half a minute later, a knock sounded on the office door.
"Come in," Austin spoke, relaxing back on the chair.
The door opened, and a young male assistant wearing glasses walked in nervously, clutching a thick folder of reports against his chest.
He had already seen Mr. Miller and the lawyer running out of the building earlier, and word had spread among the remaining staff that a new buyer had taken over the company.
However, seeing just how young Austin was up close, the assistant still swallowed hard.
"You... you called for me, Sir?" the assistant asked cautiously.
"What's your name?" Austin asked, leaning back in his chair.
"My name is Kevin, Sir. I was Mr. Miller's administrative assistant," Kevin replied quickly, bowing his head slightly.
"Alright, Kevin," Austin said, getting straight to the point.
"Go get the company's finance account ready. Pay off everyone's overdue salaries right now, and give all the employees a bonus on top of it."
Hearing this, Kevin froze in place, staring at Austin with his mouth slightly open.
Pay salaries and give out bonuses?
Did this new boss not read the financial reports before buying the company?
"Sir... about that," Kevin hesitated, pushing his glasses up his nose as he tried to explain carefully.
"Mr. Miller left the company's operating account completely empty. Between the three months of unpaid salaries, employee severance packages, and overdue server maintenance fees, we owe almost ten million dollars..."
Before Kevin could even finish his sentence, his tablet suddenly let out a loud chime in his arms.
Kevin paused, looking down at the screen in confusion.
The moment he saw the bank notification flashing across the display, his eyes nearly popped out of their sockets and his hands started shaking violently.
Ten million dollars!
It was the exact amount the company needed to clear all the unpaid salaries, bonuses, and operating debts!
"S-Sir! This money..." Kevin stuttered, raising his head to look at Austin in utter shock, wondering how on earth the new boss had just casually wired ten million dollars in the blink of an eye.
Just as Kevin opened his mouth to ask where the funds came from, Austin raised his hand and cut him off.
"I don't need to hear the details. Just distribute the money tonight," Austin said, his voice calm and firm.
"Also, pass a message to everyone downstairs. Tell them Apex Horizon Tech is not bankrupt anymore, and anyone who wants to stay and work is welcome to stay."
Austin paused , his eyes turning a bit colder.
"As for those who have already lost hope and packed their things to leave, pay them what they're owed and let them go. My company doesn't keep people who doubt me."
Hearing Austin's words, Kevin felt a sudden wave of awe wash over him.
He had thought this young boss was just an ignorant kid playing around, but now he realized the man in front of him had deep pockets and an iron will!
"Yes, Sir! I understand! Thank you so much on behalf of all the staff!" Kevin nodded his head repeatedly, bowing with deep gratitude before turning around and hurrying out of the office to make the transfers.
Watching Kevin leave, Austin simply shrugged his shoulders.
In truth, he couldn't care less about being thanked or acting like a savior. He just needed a reasonable excuse to blow the ten million so the system wouldn't slap him with a penalty!
Sure enough, less than two minutes after Kevin left the room and processed the company payroll batch, the mechanical voice rang out in Austin's mind.
[Ding! Detected Host has completed the ten million spending mission without violating the rules!]
[Rewarding the Host with: Master Medical Skills!]
Before the voice even faded, a massive stream of medical knowledge rushed straight into Austin's brain.
Countless techniques for emergency first aid, bone setting, acupressure, and surgical diagnostics engraved themselves deeply into his memory, as if he had practiced medicine for decades.
Right after the medical knowledge settled, the system chimed again.
[Ding! New task issued.]
"Host, please spend Ten Million within the time limit."
Glancing at his phone, Austin saw that ten million dollars had been deposited into his account, while his remaining time limit had stacked up to over fifty-two hours!
Seeing that the new mission was still ten million and he had more than two full days on the clock, Austin smiled in satisfaction.
Stretching his arms above his head, he stood up from the leather chair and pocketed his phone.
After all, it was already getting late into the night, and it was time to head home.
