Ava and the old man appeared in a forest where nothing else could be heard except for the chirping of the birds and falling leaves, but that peace disappeared and was replaced by the loud sounds of monsters marching towards the city.

"It seems like you're right, master. Those monsters are coming from here," Ava said, hiding behind a huge tree with the old man while peeking at the monsters.

"Do you see that thing?" The old man pointed at the shining hole set in the bushes. "There are probably more than that."

"What do you mean by 'more than that', master?" Ava asked curiously. "Are you telling me that there are other portals in this forest?"

"I'm not so sure, but seeing so many monsters coming out of this forest, it's possible that there are more than this. It's dangerous if they see us, so we better go back before they could sense our presence. We can only fight them by using heavy damage equipment, and I'm still trying to find out where I can buy those equipments," the old man said.

"It's three versus one, Shawn; don't you ever dare touch my friend!" Ayame shouted, trampling over Shawn's belly. "If you can't respect our decision, then it's better for you to die." "You!" Shawn exclaimed, using the magical ring to attack Ayame, making her step back. "Don't you ever think you can take me down like that!" "That's the spirit. Your persistence will kill you," Ayame said, forcing a laugh, but deep down she was worried about her friends. "Don't be a fool, Ayame. You've seen how I killed those demons, didn't you? If you don't want to be killed just like them, you should have escaped already," Shawn replied. Ayame, Raiken, and Kurojin fell into silence as they watched Shawn raise his hand. Fear crept into them as they knew they would disappear any moment he decided, just like what happened to those demons. "S—Stop it, Shawn!" Ayame exclaimed. "Alright. I'm sorry. Please spare us. We'll allow you to join our party." "No—I don't need that anymore," Shawn said, thinking

Yu Zhing landed in the next city. The place was quiet until the ground started shaking, and then hands of the dead people came out. They crawled and stood up; their eyes were dark and deep, some were skeletons, and others had flesh and torn clothes. "What's going on here?" Shawn asked. "We've just arrived, and we're going to fight again? Can't we have time to rest first?" "This is our life, Shawn. Being a superhero means we should be prepared for not having enough sleep all the time. Being a superhero means we are mentally prepared and are willing to continue even if we are alone," the old man said. "We should rather use our remaining energy to defeat those zombies than to complain," Ava added. "So, what are we waiting for? Attack!" Ash shouted, attracting even more zombies to come near. "Stop it, Ash!" Ava scolded her brother. "You shouldn't just shout like that. You're attracting more enemies." "Isn't it better? The more, the merrier?" Ash asked. "You're really losing

The next town was something unexpected; both humans and monsters were living together. Although there was some form of racism, the mayor, who was a half-human and half-monster, always settled the case. He could communicate with both humans and monsters. "I didn't expect that there would still be a place like this in the world," Ava said. "I thought monsters had already won, but here, both monsters and humans live peacefully together." "Who said that monsters and humans couldn't exist together?" Shawn asked, looking at the old man. "Still, monsters have a ferocious nature, and humans can be killed by them anytime. They might be able to exist together, but not live," the old man argued. "People can't live in terror having monsters around them." "Isn't that bad?" Alice asked. "Even if they are trying to maintain equality in this place, humans are still treated like slaves by those monsters." "But that's way better than being killed by monsters," Shawn said. "Let's look around a

Ash managed to take down the Sharkodiles, but the Drakynids kept chasing them relentlessly. With no other choice, Shawn decided to use his trump card. Ever since Leo’s death, he had stepped up as their lead magician—taking on the role that once belonged to his fallen friend. The old man, though wise, had grown too weak to fight and was nearing retirement. All he wished for was to witness peace in the world one last time before he died. Cyrene also transformed into her dragon form to help. She gave Ava a ride so that she could fight in close combat even if they were mid-air. Cyrene already regained her strength, and she felt unstoppable every time she was with her husband. "I never expected I'd do this, but let's do this anyway!" Ava shouted, landing a blow to the dragon. Blood splattered as she pulled her daggers from the dragon's back. She leaped to Cyrene's back as the dragon fell down. Alice and the old man could do nothing but watch. Although they didn't want to appear incap

"Where am I?" Alice asked as she opened her eyes. She looked around and realized she wasn't in their base anymore. She was lying on the wood inside a small hut. Her hair danced to the crisp breeze coming from outside. Yesterday's event came back to her mind—she was bitten by a venomous snake and lost consciousness. "Where—where is Leo?" Alice asked. She tried to stand up but ended up falling from the bed, creating a loud noise, making everyone come to see what happened. "Ahhh!" she screamed; her leg ached like hell. "Alice! Are you okay?" Shawn asked, barging inside the hut. He walked towards Alice and helped her back to the bed. "You shouldn't have moved yet." "Thanks, Shawn," Alice replied with a smile. "Do you know where Leo is? Is he outside?" Shawn remained silent for a while, wondering if he should tell Alice about what happened to her husband since her condition might get worse once he knew, but he also thought that it was her right to know what happened

  • Chapter Seventy: The Escape

Alice and Ava went to the forest. The place was quiet, except for the chirping of birds and the rustling leaves of the tall and slender trees. When they looked up, they saw the mist above, covering the foliage of trees, and the sunlight couldn't pass through."Why is this place so scary?" Alice asked, remembering the horror stories her mother used to tell her before bed when she was young. It was about those horrifying monsters who killed people in the dark forest, where blood splattered on the ground and ravens fed on corpses. Just by thinking about it made her give up already.Ava didn't mind her and continued walking. Then they stopped when they heard the sound of a snake getting closer, but they couldn't see it, as if this creature had a concealment skill. Then, all of a sudden, Alice felt something bite her leg; the excruciating pain ran through her veins, intoxicating her blood, and she fell to the ground unconscious."Alice!" Ava exclaimed, surprised when Alice suddenly collaps

Ash stopped three meters away from Demi, who also gave the dark gem to him. Meanwhile, Alice, Leo, Shawn, and the old man couldn't see what was going on. But it seemed like Ash had successfully taken it as he turned around and came back. However, before Ash could come back, the king of dragons suddenly rolled, leaving them all in a dangerous position, ready to fall. The dark gem flew back to Demi's hand as she leaped, and Lucio saved her. Ash realized that the dark gem Demi gave him was just a replica and wasn't real. He immediately harnessed the wind to save himself; he could stand straight even mid-air and used his telescope to find Demi, but she quickly disappeared. Meanwhile, Cyrene was in a dilemma when she thought about whom she should help first, her husband, who was falling to the ground, or Shawn and her friends. Her body immediately followed her husband, who had already transformed into his human form, and she caught him. While falling down, Shawn remembered the blac

The other dragons were still under the dominion of the dark gem, and she couldn't do anything even if she was their queen. "Cyrene!" Shawn rushed towards the green dragon and asked in a worried tone, "Are you alright?" "The dark gem," Cyrene said in a weak voice. "The demon queen uses it to control us. Fortunately, my mind was strong enough to resist the manipulation. I should do something to stop her and free my friends." "Don't worry, I'm here to help you with that." Shawn used the power of the magical ring to heal Cyrene's wounds. "You were black and blue. Can you still fly?" "Thanks for healing my wounds, Shawn. You are a very compassionate human," Cyrene said. "Don't underestimate the strength of the queen of dragons. No matter how badly beaten I am, no matter how many wounds I've go

Shawn noticed that Alice was approaching him, but he just ignored her, although his intuition was telling him to move. He was confused about what she was doing. Before he realized it, Alice had already taken the ring from him as she used her assassination skills to move swiftly and snatch the ring from his fingers like a professional thief. "What's going on with Alice?" Shawn asked, confused. Then, he was surprised when he found out that the ring on his finger was missing. "Did she take it?" "Shawn!" Ava exclaimed as she slashed the monsters that were about to attack her boyfriend. "What were you thinking? Are you planning to get yourself killed?" "Alice," Shawn said. "Yes, what about her?" Ava asked, feeling jealous as she thought about how mean Shawn was to her when she was the one who saved him, but he was thinking about Alice. "She snatched my ring!" Shawn replied, looking at Alice as she ran away. "Where is she taking it?" "What?" Ava screamed. She looked at Alice, wh
