4. A Trap from Father-in-Law

Edward didn't quite understand what had just happened to his family.

In the lobby of a corporate building, Edward watched as various journalists gathered. They seemed to be waiting for something while holding microphones and cameras. A few hours ago Edward had received news that a major corruption case had been uncovered at Rayyanco Walt Tech-the company owned by his wife Bella's family.

This company is also where Edward's parents work.

Not only the corruption case, but also the perpetrators behind the corruption.

Edward immediately rushed through the crowd of reporters. In front of the reporters, security guards formed a line to hold them back. Everyone seemed to be pushing each other so that Edward's body was nudged several times.

"ALLOW US TO COVER WHO THE EMBEZZLER IS IN THIS COMPANY!"

"HOW DID THE EMBEZZLEMENT HAPPEN?! TELL US!"

Edward winced as his body swayed. Until finally after being in the front row of the reporters, Edward saw a familiar figure walking from the direction of the company's employee area.

Four security guards were carrying two people whose hands were restrained. There was a figure of Arthur as the owner of the Rayyanco Walt Tech company accompanying the four security officers.

Edward was instantly dumbfounded to realize that the two people walking were bowed down. As he got closer to the reporters, Edward could clearly see that they were his parents.

Wait. Why were his parents detained and taken away by security?!

"Mama, papa..." Edward muttered in between looking at the two people who were getting closer.

Camera flash lights were immediately scattered everywhere. The reporters pushed each other more intensely to get a portrait spot of the two people brought by Arthur and the security guards. Everyone seemed to be competing to get exclusive news.

"ARTHUR! ARE THEY THE CULPRITS BEHIND THE EMBEZZLEMENT OF COMPANY FUNDS?!" One of the reporters cheered the question.

"WHO ARE THEY? TELL US HOW THEY EMBEZZLED THE FUNDS!"

Edward was completely speechless while listening to the reporters' questions. In his heart, Edward refused to accept the fact that his parents were the perpetrators of the company's embezzlement case.

"No way," Edward muttered while shaking his head.

Finally Arthur stopped walking with the four security guards and Edward's parents. Arthur looked at all the reporters with an expression that implied disappointment.

Edward hoped that Arthur would not say that his parents were the perpetrators. Unfortunately, Edward's hopes were dashed that very second.

"We find it very difficult to tell you this. The company did not expect that there would be a case of embezzlement that occurred outside of its supervision. But we are also relieved to have found the perpetrator of the embezzlement."

"HOW LONG HAS THE EMBEZZLEMENT BEEN GOING ON?"

"WILL THEY BE PUNISHED ACCORDINGLY?"

"TELL US WHAT THE CONSEQUENCES WILL BE!"

"HOW MUCH DID YOUR COMPANY LOSE, MR. ARTHUR!?"

Arthur seemed to pause for a few seconds to answer. After that, his shoulders dropped limply as if he had just sighed heavily.

"Rayyanco Walt Tech Company is very strict in following up unscrupulous acts. The embezzlement case has already cost the company 50 million dollars."

After Arthur's statement was released, the reporters were eager to highlight Edward's parents. There was no resistance from Edward's parents, nor was there any rebuttal.

All the reporters asked more questions. The pressure of their bodies made Edward even more unsteady.

Amidst all the crowded reporters, Edward watched his parents intently. Edward hoped that there would be a rebuttal statement from them. But at that moment, his parents just gave up and let the reporters' cameras shine on their faces.

"Mr. Noah and Mrs. Sabrina! Explain why you committed the act of embezzlement!"

"Are you ready to accept the consequences given by the company?!"

"NO!" Edward spontaneously exclaimed after listening to the exclamations of the reporters.

Suddenly all eyes turned to Edward. Edward's loud voice stopped the cries of the reporters. His parents turned to Edward in unison with shocked looks.

"How can you say my parents did that?!" Edward asked Arthur who was secretly not expecting to see him.

There was no answer. The crowd slowly died down. Arthur just laughed quietly and looked at Edward without any emotion.

"Edward, since when have you been there?" Arthur asked as he placed both hands interlocked behind his body.

"You shouldn't spread false news to the public! My parents would never commit embezzlement!" said Edward.

Arthur raised both eyebrows, his laughter becoming a thin curve of a smile.

"I have proof of their actions, Mr. Edward," Arthur replied calmly. "You will not be able to deny that."

Edward gnashed his teeth at Arthur, furious. He paid no attention to the reporters who had now turned their cameras on him. In a fit of rage, Edward was about to run through the security guards' defenses to lunge at Arthur.

Unfortunately, the security guards were very swift in catching Edward's body. Repeatedly, Edward's body rebelled until it took three security guards to restrain him.

"Sir, please calm down! If you're causing a scene, you'd better leave!" scolded one of the security guards.

Edward's angry gaze remained fixed on Arthur. The situation became chaotic again after Edward rebelled harder to get away from the security guards. Amidst the commotion, Arthur still stood and watched quietly.

"GET OUT OF HERE!"

"I will not leave until you release my parents! They are innocent! This company is slandering my parents!" Edward constantly shouted as his body rebelled.

Edward actually hoped that his parents would react in some way. However, they didn't. They both only watched Edward through wide-eyed stares. Edward's heart instantly grew uncomfortable.

Edward felt that his parents were asking for help, but they couldn't say anything.

'What the hell is going on?' Edward thought to himself.

In the middle of it Edward's eyes caught a faint gesture of Arthur giving an order to a personal bodyguard. Then Arthur's personal bodyguard moved straight to Edward's location.

"CAN'T YOU HEAR ME?! GET OUT OF HERE NOW! We're done with the interview!" Arthur's bodyguard cursed at everyone.

Edward didn't say anything else. His body soon received a strong push, causing him to stagger a few meters backwards. Edward's body almost fell down if he couldn't keep his balance.

After slowly straightening up, Edward looked back at Arthur. He had a bad feeling. What had happened to his parents?
