The main hall pulsed with anticipation.

Waiters glided between tables, silver trays balanced with crystal glasses and delicate plates, weaving through the hum of chatter and the soft strains of a string quartet in the corner.

Everyone in the room knew—the real spectacle hadn’t begun yet.

Near the front, Sophia sat stiffly with Ethan and Cara.

Her chin was high, her expression calm, but the rapid beat of her heart betrayed her nerves.

Ethan leaned in, his voice smooth, confident. “Relax, Sophia. The Dupont representative will be here any moment. When they arrive, I’ll make sure their eyes land on you first.”

Cara, eager, added quickly, “That’s right, Ms. Sophia. You’ve prepared better than anyone. And with Sir Ethan guiding us, nothing can possibly go wrong.”

Sophia gave a polite smile, though her fingers tapped a restless rhythm against the tablecloth.

“I hope so. Everything depends on who they’ve sent. If it’s the right Dupont, this changes everything.”

Everyone in the hall knew the name Rouge. Daniel wasn’t just some spoiled rich brat. He was Caesar Rouge’s son, the man who built his empire on blood. One of the London’s underworld notorious man.“Did he say Rouge?” someone muttered, clutching his wife’s arm.“Rouge… he’s Rouge’s son…” someone whispered in shock.“Bloody hell, not here…” another muttered, pulling his friend back.“Oh my God… We shouldn't be here...” another voice whispered shakily.Daniel’s eyes swept the crowd, sharp and dangerous. “Listen carefully,” he said, voice low, cold, dangerous. “If any of you still want to live without problems… you stay the hell out of this. Don’t even think about interfering.”The guests froze. And then, slowly, from the corners of the hall, men began to move. Daniel’s men. They slipped out of the crowd. Their presence was enough to send more shivers down spines. Panic rippled. Chairs scraped. A glass shattered somewhere. One by one, guests began edging toward the exit. No one wanted

Names began to be called one by one. Fairchild wasn’t among them yet, but they're also not the companies who won Dupont partnership. Tension built around the table. Ethan’s confident facade tightened slightly—if Fairchild wasn’t called, everyone would know he had done nothing.Minutes passed. Still no Fairchild. Ethan’s smirk faltered ever so slightly, beads of sweat threatening to betray him. But then, the announcer cleared his throat and spoke the final name.“Finally, this year’s partnership with The Dupont goes to… Fairchild Company!”The crowd turned, and it was clear. They've made it. A burst of applause filled the hall and Sophia’s eyes widened.Cara clapped her hands excitedly, almost bouncing in her seat. “See! I knew it! Sir Ethan handled everything perfectly!”The applause died down, but the excitement at the table didn’t. Sophia leaned forward, eyes shining. “Ethan, you did this, right? You really handled everything?”Ethan shrugged, forcing a smooth smile, though inside,

CHAPTER 31Ethan excused himself from Sophia and Cara, muttering that he needed to make a quick call. He stepped aside and dialed his father, keeping his tone smooth.“Father, I need a favor,” he began. “There’s a situation with a friend. They weren’t included in the Dupont selection. I thought maybe—”“Do you fucking hear yourself right now?!” his father exploded in the other line without letting him finish. “Are you seriously trying to play hero again? To what? To impress your woman? For once, think before opening your mouth!”Ethan blinked. He didn't expect that his father will give this kind of reaction.“Do you even understand our place? If it were possible, we would bow to the Duponts for their grace. That’s the level we’re talking about! And you want to help some insignificant family? Do you even see what our family needs right now? You’re thinking like a child, Ethan. Weak-minded. Stupid. Why waste energy on people who can’t even stand on their own?” his father barked.Ethan’s j

Sophia’s breath caught in her throat. For a moment she stood frozen, staring into the mirror. The reflection staring back at her was calm, collected—but inside, it felt like the floor was splitting open beneath her feet. Not on the list. Her lips pressed tight, but her voice cracked anyway. “Are you sure, Cara?”Cara’s hands trembled around her phone. She nodded hard. “Yes. I swear it’s true. A friend of mine was one of the organizers. She said it’s already decided.” Her voice splintered, sharp with anger. “It has to be because of her. Because of Cassandra Dupont, doesn’t it?”Sophia’s chest clenched. Could it really be that simple? Months of work—sleepless nights, endless revisions—swept aside like nothing. All because of Cassandra Dupont?Cara’s mouth twisted with fury. “Or because of earlier? Of course! We didn’t know she was a Dupont. But Alex knew. That bastard knew and said nothing! He stood there and let us look like fools. How low can you sink?”She kept spitting curses, but S

Ethan’s eyes narrowed as he tracked Cassandra and Alex disappearing into the crowd. His jaw clenched, though his posture stayed composed, arms folded tight across his chest. “Hmph… she’s beautiful,” he muttered under his breath.“But if she’s with that Alex, she clearly isn’t thinking straight.”Cara’s lips pressed thin, her eyes blazing with venom.“That bitch,” she spat, her voice low and shaking with rage. “How dare she just stroll in here like she owns the place—ugh! I hate her!”Sophia drew a slow breath, steadying the fire in the air. Her gaze locked on both of them, calm yet unyielding.“Enough,” she said firmly. “Forget them. What matters now is which Dupont shows up tonight. That’s what everyone’s waiting for. That’s where our focus needs to be.”Ethan straightened, confidence returning to his stance. A sharp smile curved across his face.“You’re right, Sophia. Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you get the perfect chance to meet them. Trust me.”Sophia’s expression softened, gratit
