Chapter 3: Return to Life

As a result of the attack, he lost consciousness to the point where he didn't know which kind of person had taken him to the hospital. The last thing he remembered was that there were police sirens on patrol. But Bruce was too weak to know what happened.

Remembering everything that happened last night made Bruce's anger flare up. Aside from his failed love affair and ruined reputation, he was also intentionally harmed on the same night.

Bruce recognised who they were during the attack, thanks to specific traits. He concluded that they were servants of the Waylen family.

Bruce was born as part of the Waylen family from Jericho City, his mother was one of the Waylen's housemaids. There was an affair between Mr Waylen and Bruce's mother and their love cost a healthy lad named Bruce.

Bruce became the bastard son of the Waylen family, a powerful and wealthy clan that ruled over the city. He had no status or respect in the family, as his mother was always sick because of the stress and humiliation she endured. The only reason they were allowed to stay in the family mansion was because of the pity and charity of the Waylen family.

Bruce loved his mother more than anything, and he hated the Waylen family for treating them so poorly. He swore to himself that he would find a way to escape from their clutches and live a free and happy life with his mother. But fate was cruel, and his mother passed away when he was fourteen, leaving him alone and heartbroken.

Bruce suspected that his mother’s death was not natural, but he had no evidence or power to prove it. He knew that the Waylen family would not let him go easily, and that they might even try to kill him to silence him. So he made a bold move: he ran away from the mansion and declared that he had cut off all ties with the Waylen family. He did not want any of their money or influence, he just wanted to be left alone.

But the Waylen family did not leave him alone. They considered him a disgrace and a threat, and they sent their men to hunt him down and eliminate him. Bruce had to hide and run for his life, while trying to find a way to survive in the harsh world.

Bruce did not understand why they were still looking for trouble with him, even to the point of wanting his life. To the powerful Waylen family, he was nothing more than an ant they could kill at any time.

As Bruce was thinking about this problem, the door to his room suddenly opened. The incoming nurse's face instantly paled, seeing Bruce sitting on the bed.

"Are you still alive?" the woman said.

"Huh? Am I looking dead to you?" Bruce asked with some annoyance.

"Why am I?" he continued.

"You're in a hospital. Some people stabbed you to death." The nurse looked at Bruce with some fear. She didn't expect to witness this process before her own eyes.

"Come here and check myself then. You are a nurse, I think you can tell whether I am alive or not. Don't you?"

Bruce extended his hand. The nurse walked over and placed her hand on Bruce's arm. After feeling his body temperature, the nurse took a surprised breath.

"I'm sorry, sir. But this shouldn't be possible. You were declared dead by a doctor last night. You fell into a coma when you were brought here! W-wait a moment. I'll tell the doctor."

Then, the nurse immediately ran out of the room in a frenzy. Bruce shook his head.

"Unbelievable. How could a nurse not be able to tell the difference between a living human and a corpse?"

System: "New system initialisation has been completed. System activation has begun. The reset was successful!"

System: "The Among Gods system of the third parallel world has been activated. Bruce Waylen has been identified as the user."

Various skills can be acquired through the System. Since this is the first time the activation process completed, you will get a starter gift pack. You can choose one of the three options in this package. Would you like to open the package?"

Hope grew in Bruce's heart hearing that statement. "I will open the gift pack," he thought excitedly.

"Open it."

A moment later, some virtual words appeared before Bruce's eyes.

"The Wiser Man," "The Love Player," and "The Soldier's Returned."

Bruce admitted to himself that the last two choices were very appealing. However, he finally decided to go for the profile of a soldier. Right now, the most important thing for him was to survive. After all, he could not leave Carthage now and did not know when they would try to harm him again.

They would likely go after him if they knew he was still alive. Hence, a fighter's physique could at least help him survive.

"I chose the Soldier's Returned."

When Bruce gave that answer, a large amount of information entered his mind. He felt like he had aged instantly as energy waves filled his body. The feeling as if he was struggling to survive on the battlefield filled his heart.

A minute has passed, and Bruce opened his eyes while throwing a punch. As his fist traveled through the air, there was a sharp noise. Bruce looked at his clenched hand in surprise.

System: "Due to the profile of a soldier, your body have become five times stronger than an ordinary person."

"I'm impressed. One skill alone has such an amazing effect," Bruce thought. He looked forward to the opportunity to see the other skills.

"What should I do to get another skill?"

System: "Skills are divided into general skills, super abilities, and special skills. However, since your current Level is still level 1, you can only exchange points to obtain primary super abilities. To exchange points, you need Expertise Points, which can be obtained by completing missions. These missions will appear at unspecified times during the user's lifetime."

"Show me the skills I can get for now," Bruce said impatiently.

After all that, they finally resolved the case.

Bruce left the hospital around six or seven in the morning.

"I didn't expect to spend the night outside. I think I should go to school now."
