“Say something.”
Luna’s voice trembled, but she didn’t move closer. Derrick stood frozen, staring at her phone.
RELATIONSHIP STATUS: TERMINATED.
It wasn’t metaphorical. It wasn’t emotional. It was absolute. “I didn’t do this,” Derrick said slowly.
Luna laughed once. Sharp. Broken. “Then who did?”
The ballroom buzzed again, whispers returning, laughter crawling back like insects sensing blood.
Sophie leaned back in her chair, amused. “Looks like your magic finally has limits.”
Hawthorne folded his hands. “The System made a choice,” he said calmly. “And so did you.”
Luna looked at Derrick. “You knew this could happen.”
“No,” Derrick said. “I knew it might.”
“That’s worse,” she replied.
The system pulsed faintly. ''Isolation protocol active.''
Derrick clenched his jaw. “Undo it.”
No response. “UNDO IT.”
Silence. Sophie stood and walked closer, heels echoing. “You’re learning,” she said softly. “Power always collects interest.”
She circled Luna. “Did you really think you were special?”
Luna’s hands shook. “I never wanted his money.”
Sophie smiled. “Neither did I. At first.”
Luna turned to Derrick. “Is that true?”
Derrick hesitated. That pause destroyed what remained. “So you did love her,” Luna whispered. “Once.”
Sophie tilted her head. “Loved me. Begged me. Kneeling seems to be your thing.”
Laughter rippled. A man called out, “Do it again!”
Another voice added, “Show us how rich men apologize!”
Derrick scanned the crowd. Every face was waiting. Hungry. The system chimed. ''Public degradation opportunity detected.''
Derrick inhaled slowly. Luna stared at him, fear creeping in. “What are you thinking?”
“I’m thinking,” Derrick said quietly, “that they don’t get to decide how this ends.”
Hawthorne raised an eyebrow. “Careful. Pride is expensive.”
Derrick looked at him. “So was my brother’s life.”
The room stilled. Sophie’s smile twitched. Hawthorne’s eyes narrowed. “That subject is closed.”
“No,” Derrick said. “It was buried.”
He turned toward the crowd. “You saw the video,” Derrick said loudly. “You saw me beg.”
He stepped forward. “I begged because my brother needed surgery.”
Murmurs spread. “And because the hospital wouldn’t operate without payment.”
A woman whispered, “That happens?”
Hawthorne snapped, “Enough.”
Derrick ignored him. “I begged this man,” Derrick continued, pointing at Hawthorne, “because he controlled the charity fund that night.”
The room froze. Sophie stiffened. “Uncle?”
Hawthorne stood. “This is slander.”
Derrick laughed. “You rejected the request,” he said. “But that’s not the shocking part.”
The system pulsed sharply. ''Truth threshold crossed.''
Derrick’s phone vibrated. A file unlocked automatically. Projected onto the screen behind him.
HOSPITAL TRANSFER LOG – OVERRIDE AUTHORIZED
A timestamp. A signature. Hawthorne’s. The crowd gasped. “What is that?” someone shouted.
Derrick’s voice shook, but he didn’t stop. “You approved the surgery,” Derrick said. “And then you canceled it.”
Silence turned heavy. Sophie’s face drained of color. “That’s not”
“Because,” Derrick said, “you wanted leverage.”
The system chimed again. ''Core injustice identified.''
Hawthorne slammed his fist onto the table. “Lies!”
A man in the crowd stood. “I recognize that signature.”
Another voice followed. “So do I.”
Phones came out again. Not laughing now. Recording. Sophie whispered, “Uncle… tell me this isn’t true.”
Hawthorne’s jaw tightened. “It was business.”
Luna covered her mouth. “You let him die,” she whispered.
Hawthorne snapped, “I let a market correct itself.”
The room erupted. “You killed a child!”
“That’s monstrous!”
“Is this real?!”
Security moved in, but hesitated. The system spoke. Audible. Cold. “INJUSTICE CONFIRMED.”
Every screen flickered. “HOST QUALIFICATION RETROACTIVELY VERIFIED.”
Derrick’s knees almost buckled. So it was true. The system didn’t just wait. ''It engineered loss.''
Sophie backed away. “This is insane.”
Derrick turned to her. “Did you know?” he asked quietly.
She shook her head rapidly. “No. I swear.”
Hawthorne barked, “Enough theatrics.”
He looked at Derrick. “You think this absolves you?”
Derrick smiled faintly. “No.”
He raised the black card. “I think this ends you.”
The system chimed. ''Final humiliation exchange available.''
Luna stepped forward. “Derrick, don’t.”
He looked at her. Pain flickered. Then hardened. “I already lost you,” he said softly. “This is the cost.”
He turned back to Hawthorne. “Kneel,” Derrick said.
The room exploded. Sophie screamed, “You can’t !”
Hawthorne laughed incredulously. “You want me to kneel?”
“Yes,” Derrick replied. “Publicly.”
Hawthorne’s laughter stopped. “And if I don’t?”
Derrick tilted his head. “Then I release everything.”
The system projected another file. GLOBAL ASSET TRACE — HAWTHORNE GROUP
Hidden accounts. Bribes. Bodies. The room went dead silent. Hawthorne’s face turned ashen. “You wouldn’t,” he whispered.
Derrick leaned in. “I already did.”
Hawthorne’s knees buckled. Slowly, Painfully, He knelt. The crowd roared. Sophie screamed, “STOP!”
Derrick watched. No joy. Only emptiness. The system chimed. ''Humiliation reciprocated. ''Ascension multiplier unlocked.''
Luna backed away. “I don’t recognize you,” she whispered.
Derrick closed his eyes. Neither did he. Suddenly, Sophie’s phone rang. She answered shakily. “Yes?”
Her face drained of blood. “What do you mean… deceased?”
She looked at Derrick. Terror flooding her eyes. “My uncle,” she whispered. “He collapsed.”
Hawthorne slumped forward. Not breathing. Screams erupted. Chaos. Derrick staggered back. “I didn’t” he started.
The system spoke calmly. “SECOND LOSS COMPLETE.”
Derrick froze. Luna stared at him like a stranger. “You didn’t just lose me,” she said softly.
“You lost yourself.”
She turned and walked away. Derrick reached out, Too late. The system chimed one last time. ''NEXT PHASE: DOMINION.''
Derrick stood alone amid screaming, cameras flashing, a man dying at his feet. And finally understood, Humiliation was no longer his weapon. It was his throne.

Luna’s fingers tightened around his sleeve. “We can leave,” she whispered. “Right now.”“No,” Derrick said quietly. “This is why we’re here.”Across the room, Hawthorne sat at the center table, surrounded by executives, senators, old money.
