“Your father didn't escape the Empire, Rowan. He was sent away to raise you until your eighteenth birthday.”

Rowan stared at his uncle.

“No.”

Adrian tilted his head. “You heard me.”

“That's a lie!”

“Ask your father.”

Rowan turned.

Edric stood beside the damaged carriage, blood running down his face. He didn't deny it.

“Father?” Rowan whispered.

Edric lowered his eyes.

“Tell me he's lying!”

The first War Mage gathered the strongest warriors from seven kingdoms and sealed them beneath the capital after the final battle.”“Then why would breaking the seal release them?”“Because the Emperor changed the purpose of the prison.”The Devourer laughed.“Your father still believes he can explain everything.”It lifted one enormous claw.“Let me show you what your ancestors buried.”The ground exploded.A massive stone staircase emerged from beneath the courtyard, descending into darkness.
