“They told me that you were dead, Maxwell,” Arabella's voice trembled as she reached shakily out to caress his cheek. “Every time I tried to reach the military channels just to get news about you but I was denied access and then they came.”
“Your father refused to give them the deed of his land and they forcibly took it away from him, using our lives as bargaining chips. Your father told us to hide but your sisters and your mother were too late,” She broke into sobs that tore deeply at Maxwell’s heart. “They killed all of them and I watched. I was helpless. I couldn’t do anything. I buried them with my own hands, the servants fled and everything was thrown into chaos. My own family had tried to force me to remarry after their deaths. Where were you when we needed you, Maxwell?” Maxwell’s mind was in chaos. There’s no way his family would have died over a flimsy excuse of a land. There was definitely more to it. He held on tightly to Arabella’s frail body as guilt ate at him raw. “I’m here now. I’m here and no one would hurt you anymore that I promise you. And I will avenge my family’s death. Everyone involved will pay dearly with their lives!” His eyes shone with vengeance and determination. His family’s death won’t be for nothing! ••• Maxwell stood over his family’s graves, a man dressed in a thick green coat stood beside him, their faces solemn. “Look into my family’s death. Get me everything you can find about the Vallis, every transaction, every dirt you can find on them. I need them immediately.” “Yes commander!” The man replied before briskly walking away. Maxwell’s jaw tightened, his fists clenched. “I will make sure they regret being born! Your son is back. The Greens live and everyone who has underestimated our family will be shocked.” ••• Maxwell alighted from the car, and stared at the land his father usually took him to when he was a boy. His father had said he intended to build a hospital or a beach resort here since it was closer to the sea. But now, all the structures his father had built had been tore to the floor. Maxwell’s heart bled as he took steps towards the ridge of the eastern part of the land. This was the land his father had died for. The sounds of engine working didn’t do anything to calm his tensed nerves but rather made them worse. A group of men dressed in orange vests were busy hammering metal stakes into the soil. A large truck stood idly nearby, bearing a logo that made Maxwell’s blood boil. Vallis Development Group. “Who gave you the permisssion to mark this earth?” Maxwell’s voice wasn’t loud but it echoed through the field. The lead surveyor, a short man with a clipboard and a sneer, looked up. He took in Maxwell’s disheveled appearance and the blood on his shirt, and raised a brow. “Move along Pal. This isn’t a psychiatric institution, this area is restricted. The Vallis group has a court ordered seizure of this property and I’m sure you have heard of the Vallis family, they can’t be angered.” “A seizure?” Maxwell stepped closer. “This is the Greens land! Their bodies are still cold in the floor and you are already measuring for fences!?” “The Greens are dead so what?! Did they send you here to fight for them?” The surveyor laughed loudly, waving a hand dismissively. “Get out of here before I call the guards to toss you out for trespassing. You look like you have sleeping in a gutter.” Maxwell didn’t argue. He moved towards the equipments with the same inhumane speed he had used in the house. CRUNCH! Maxwell’s boot came down on the expensive surveying transit, crushing the lenses and the tripod in the mud. “Hey! That’s fifty thousand dollars of equipment!” The man yelled, reaching for his radio. Maxwell grabbed the man’s wrist, his grip like an iron shackle. He squeezed until the man dropped the radio, his eyes filled with fear as they locked gazes, his face turning pale. “Tell the so called Vallis head that his court order is worth nothing!” Maxwell hissed. “The Greens aren’t dead for one of them is standing in front of you and I’m calling in every debt.” He shoved the man back, causing him to stumble over his own broken equipment. The crew scrambled towards their truck, clearing the path of him as they were terrified by the look in his eyes and the aura he exuded. As the truck sped away, Maxwell stood on the ridge. His hand went to his wrist, feeling the wooden bead bracelet his father had pressed into his palm when he was leaving for the army four years ago. This was the only memory of his father he had and his chest tightened. Suddenly, the beads grew warm against his skin. A low, rhythmic hum vibrated through his arm, a pulse that felt almost…. Alive. He frowned, lifting his sleeve to look at the bracelet, but a flash of light in his peripheral vision caught his attention. A black SUV was riding down the dirt path with increased speed as it rode. The engine roaring. It wasn’t slowing down. It was aiming straight for the spot Maxwell stood.Latest Chapter

Theodore stood up on seeing him, Arabella ran towards him and looked out the door. She raised an inquisitive brow. “You came alone?”Maxwell gave a stiff nod. “Mike isn’t at the police station and your mother doesn’t want to come home, she still insists on you coming there instead.”“Then, let’s go,” Arabella responded hurriedly.“No,” Maxwell shook his head, holding her arm, stopping her. “You’re not going anywhere, Arabella. If you do, you will be putting all of us in danger.”“What do you mean by that?” She frowned. “You told me earlier that the call was a trap and now you are stopping me from going to bring my mom home. You think she’s a danger to me?”Maxwell’s jaw twitched. “At this point, yes she is,” he responded with mincing words.Arabella glanced at her father who stood there silent watching the whole ordeal play out. “Father, aren’t you going to say anything?”Theodore blinked, staring at Maxwell. He knew his wife and how she can be and also he didn’t really know much abo
Chapter 136: A Lie Or The Truth?
Sienna’s fingers clutched her phone. “I-I do. But—” “No buts!” The voice harshly cut in. “Do what I asked you to or else the next time you will see your son will be in a trash bag!” The call went dead. Sienna’s heart raged in her chest as horror covered her face. What had they gotten themselves into?! “What are doing here, Sienna?” A deep, husky voice loomed over her making her flinch, her phone falling from her eyes. She looked up terrified only to see Maxwell. “What the hell?!” She yelled, hitting him on the chest. “Don’t you have manners? Creeping up on someone like that!” Sienna took in deep breaths as she looked around, her brows furrowing. “Where’s Arabella? Why did she bring you alone?” Maxwell’s eyes narrowed on her. The intensity of his gaze made Sienna to subconsciously take a step back. “Wha… what? Why are you staring at me like that?” “Arabella is at home and she’s not coming.” Sienna’s eyes widened with terror. “No! You are lying. Didn’t she listen to me? I
Chapter 135: A Trap?
Arabella hurriedly entered her car, turning on the ignition. Then, her phone rang beside her. It was Maxwell. “Where are you?” His voice came through, calm but firm. Arabella pursed her lips for a while before responding. She wondered if he knew about what happened with Victoria. But that wasn’t important now. “I’m… leaving the gala,” She replied, already pulling out of the parking lot. “Mum texted me that Mike has been arrested.” A pause came from the other end. “Don’t go there.” Her grip tightened on the steering wheel as her brows furrowed. “What?” “Don’t go there,” he repeated. “Go home.” Arabella frowned. “Maxwell, my brother is in trouble. You don’t expect me to just go home and do absolutely nothing?” “Arabella, just trust me. Do not argue, go home and leave it to me to handle.” Arabella shook her head as she drove, overtaking a car. “No. Not anymore. You have been fixing my family’s mess all on your own without telling me, I can’t put this on you as well!” A deep
Chapter 134: Again?
“Lost? I haven’t lost my dear,” Victoria said with a laugh. “I have just called for an audit of your character and I have proof.” She brought out a document from her bag and waved it in the air, staring at the crowd. “Here’s a document that confirms everything I’m saying here.” One of the guest collected the document from her and the others surrounded him and read through it. “It’s true!” A voice rang out from the crowd few seconds later. Arabella raised a brow, staring at Victoria. “What did you do?” “Security!” Victoria smirked, raising her hand and snapping her fingers in the air. “I believe Mrs. Zade here—who can’t use her husband’s name for reasons best known to her—is using unorthodox methods to—” “That’s enough, Victoria!” A voice sounded within the crowd. It was loud but was enough to attract attention. The crowd parted instantly as a woman stepped forward. Seraphina Vance. The same woman who had acquired Zade’s Group from Fred Zade. Victoria’s brows furrowed. Ev
Chapter 133: Shadows
Theodore straightened up slowly, his hands trembling. He let out a shaky breath as he said quietly. “I will not fail you.” Maxwell’s gaze remained steady. He didn’t care whether Theodore failed him or not. “Don’t do it for me,” he replied. “Do it for your family.” Theodore nodded. … Kensington Holdings. Victoria Kensington paced around her office, her phone in hand, the bright lighting from the floor to ceiling window did nothing to illuminate her dull mood. Her hair looked dishevealed like she had ran her hands through them several times today. Ever since meeting Arabella during the Global business Summit, she had tried her best to jeopardize her company but at the end her moves backfired on her and she is left with a huge mess to clean up or she loses everything. “Alejandro, you guys can’t leave me hanging this way. This is unfair!” Static came from the other end followed by his voice. “Victoria, you did this to yourself,” Alejandro responded. “Your beef with Arabella mak
Chapter 132: Offering Theodore A Chance
Everyone ignored Sienna’s statement and went on to keep eating. Sienna and Mike exchanged peculiar glances throughout the whole breakfast which didn’t go unnoticed by Maxwell. … Theodore sat quietly at the back seat of the taxi, the envelope on his lap. He had read the letter more times than he could count, yet it still didn’t feel real. Forest Hills. A place people talked about with respect. A company which controlled industries. The owner wasn’t well known—yet. Elena Hatfield was in charge of the company, although Arabella had swore that she had nothing to do with the letter, he had second thoughts and right now, he was nervous. His fingers tightened around the envelope. “This must be a mistake,” he muttered underneath his breath. The taxi slowed down and came to complete stop. “We’re here, sir,” the driver said. Theodore looked up. The building stood tall and proud, glass shining under the morning sun. People in clean suits walked in and out with purpose. Expensive car
